  • My analysis of why and how Blink-182 became the most influential pop-punk band of their generation. Some of what I cover:
    - Why Tom Delonge and Mark Hoppus' upbringing as kids from a nice, upper-middle class suburb of San Diego was one of the keys to their success as a punk band
    - Why they reached truly mainstream success where previous punk bands like Bad Religion, NOFX and Social Distortion never did
    - The critical role that MTV played, especially Total Request Live, better known as TRL
    - Why the music videos for Dammit, Josie (ft Alyssa Milano), What's My Age Again, and especially All The Small Things (where they parodied Britney Spears, Christina Augilera, etc) were so important
    - The 3 eras of Blink-182's career: the skatepunk era (Cheshire Cat and Dude Ranch), the pop-punk era (EOTS and Take Off Your Pants and Jacket), and the emo era (self-titled, Neighborhoods and California)
    - How Travis Barker transformed the band overnight
