Wanted to say thanks to you both for the content you put out. Iv helped my dad build his own extensions over the years but never my own. My dad isn’t well enough these days to do it any longer so I’ve heavily relied on your content to understand a lot I don’t know…started my extension in January 2022 single storey and The roof trusses are on.the brick gable to do now and then the roof tiles. Once again thanks 🙏
Thanks very much Jade , it’s always nice to hear we have helped someone.
Good luck with the rest of your build and thanks again 😁🤜🏽🤛🏽🧱👍🏽
Lovely seeing a father and son working together and Steve has given Alex the greatest gift a father can give- s skill and work ethic that can never be replaced by a computer. 👍🏻
Cheers Tony 🙏🧱👍🏼
Great job guys.
The tile drip really sets them off and doing all 3 makes them look better than original.
Cheers Mark 🧱👍🏼
Hi guys. I’ve been mesmerised by all your videos and hard work. I think welding and bricklaying are the most useful skill ever and I’m now an armchair expert regards lintels thanks to you.
Great to hear 😆. Thanks for watching and commenting 😍👍🏽🧱
Guys, taking the hard and smooth is difficult to swallow at times…. It didn’t stop you producing are quality Job 🍺🍺🍺💥🎉
😔😔🧱👍🏽
I have been in the building trade for over 50 years and I would to have tradesmen like you working for me. You do a first class job, keep it up and you will never be short of work.
That job was a pig
Thanks very much John 🧱👍🏽
Turned out a great job Steve and Alex. If I had been the customer I would have been well pleased. Worth the wait to see the end product. Cheers.
thanks Dave 🧱👍🏽
A first class, beautifully finished, and professionally installed trio of lintels, brickwork and tiles.
"Well done," Steve and Alex.
Nobody could improve on what you have done there, it's the "jeaulous" that think they know better, and, quite frankly, "SOD 'EM!"
Thanks pal 🙏🏽🧱👍🏽
Another great video and a beautiful job from steve and Alex🎉🎉
Thanks very much 🧱🧱👍🏽
Just put the vlog on guys . Steve remember those that can't do preach. Just ignore the daft comments you and alex do a great job keep it up it's good content and one day Alex will be a great film producer and narrator lol .
Keep on building
Thanks very much Colin 🙏🏽🧱👍🏽
One of those jobs that seems simple enough until you start unravelling the original build. Well done guys, the end result is a great example of not cutting corners and getting a job done that will last the distance. Impressive work and I have learned a lot from watching your videos. Thanks.. Even the allegedly simple task of banging up a mix !!!
Thanks very much Charles🙏🏽🧱👍🏽
The drip strip you’ve created with the tile strips are first rate!
They really make a statement when they are seen, finished.
Thanks fin 😁🧱👍🏼
Very clean and tidy brickwork
Thanks very much Salvatore 🧱🤙🏾👍🏽
The bricks and mortar are a solid as it gets
Very 😬🧱👍🏽
Tell you what Alex your dads a good bloke
And a dam good bricky loads of experience 👌
Cheers Malc 😁🧱👍🏽
We all know the acro's are there purely to support your cup of tea!
Every lintel job you've posted has the cup sitting on one! 😜
It is true they are expensive cup holders and tool shelves 😏😉🧱👍🏽

Loving that drip detail... Quality.
Thanks very much 🧱👍🏽
Nice tidy job!
😁🤜🏽🤛🏽🧱👍🏽
I think how hard you guys work, getting the jobs done and working till it’s complete making sure it is all safe and rectifying other brickies mistakes and hardly ever moaning and having support from your family to help out when it’s needed amazing…….I know you go that extra mile to get the job finished and have a happy customer, especially with some of the brick work or supposed brick work that you have come across. Looking forward to seeing the next video, keep up the good work both of you and don’t worry about what other people say cos you we can see you know what you are doing with all the work you’ve done and have to do.
Thanks very much Andy 🤜🏽🤛🏽🤛
Great job, guys...quality workmanship!
Cheers Kurt 🧱👍🏽
Top quality work as always and what a nightmare this job was but looks great in the end. Thanks for taking us along take care
Cheers Hayden 🧱👍🏽😏😁
@@SteveAndAlexBuild No problem pal 🧱👍🏻
What a turn around! Think you've earned yourselves an early knock off Friday and a few pints in a pub garden to celebrate ! 😀
😏🧱👍🏽
It's quite simple, top notch from start to finish. Even a perfect clean up. Very rare.
Cheers Dennis 🧱🤙🏾
Nice Job as Usual Chaps Great look with the tile edge , not everyone’s a Critic 👍🤗
Nice one thanks Dave 🧱👍🏽
Good job that Lads, been there myself I'm a joiner and had it where a job runs over but it's great when you know your family will come and help with getting the rubbish to the tip cos they won't allow trade waste in a van.
Thanks pal 🧱👍🏽
From Murrieta, California, USA - VERY NICE workmanship and craftsmanship! Love your videos! 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks very much Daniel 🤜🏽🤛🏽🧱👍🏽
You guys are great to watch. I can’t wait till next adventure.
Thanks Roland , We’ve got nearly 300 videos now if you’re bored 😆😆🧱👍🏽
Cracking job pointing looked really good brilliant stuff.👍👍👍😎😎😎
Thanks Richard 🤙🏾🧱👍🏽
Well done lads from West Australia! We only use 10mm steel lintels here and hard to get through the acrows on your own on a reno job because of the weight. Creasing tiles look top notch on that job!
10 mm , very heavy 🥵 .
We couldn’t match the old brick so I suggested the contrast 👌🏼🧱👍🏽
Great work there guys first class work, I can tell some of the negative comments are playing on your minds a bit don't let them bother you and don't let it creep in your videos we can all tell you do excellent work start to finish cheers
Cheers Darren 🤜🏽🤛🏽🧱👍🏽
This is the first job I've watched after just coming across your channel, I must say it ended up a top notch job even after the can of worms you had after dropping the old brickwork a good job well done guys.
Welcome aboard ! and thanks Dave 🧱👍🏽
This channel should be called Lintel Repairs with Steve & Alex 🤣👍
Changing the works lintel by lintel 😆😆🧱👍🏽
nice job again, you are right the bricks will support themselves

I've been a chippy for 23 years and worked along side a lot of different trades and let me tell people who don't know this is top notch.
When a job doesn't go as planned most trades just do a basic half hearted job to get it over with and maximum profit.
It takes true tradesmen to keep going until it's perfect regardless of the financial aspect.
Dont ever change guys your a rare breed and make other tradesmen proud
Thanks very much Robert , much appreciated 🙏🏽🧱👍🏽
Steve don't take them akros out to early, them bricks could fall 😂, joking, top job fellas .
I love that the ladies helped ,top family.
Cheers Derrick we have a great family ❤️❤️👍🏽🧱

Thanks Barry 🧱👍🏽
Great work as always! 👍🏻
Thank you! Cheers Dave 🧱👍🏽
Хорошая работа !!!

Nice job Steve and Alex. You should see your comments as advise and not to take to heart. Certainly my advice last vid in not using bare hands in the rusty flaky metal was. Me best mate got a metal splinter in his finger, didn’t realise until it infected his bone then had to have it amputated. So it was great to see you with gloves on in this video.
My sister had similar work done on her house a few months ago by a well established highly reputable local builder and the finish is nowhere near as good as yours. And also A&E who produce some wonderful work wouldn’t have cowboys work with them.
Thanks very much 😁🧱👍🏼
Steve, Alex don’t let the wannabe bricks put you down I can see by your great vids there years of knowledge there keep up the good work.
Ta Scott 🧱👍🏽
Another great job what silicone did you use with the dpc tray and did you rake the joint out to fit it to the inside wall.
We just use what we have . Sometimes we tuck it , if we can’t we neil it 🧱👍🏽
Fantastic job 👏 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Cheers Rob 🤜🏽🤛🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Awesome video as usual guys!
Cheers chaps not long to the big reunion now 😆😆🧱👍🏽🤜🏽🤛🏽
Hi Just sorting out my Edwardian kitchen wall above window as it has a crack down the mortar on the right-hand side where bricks are showing 1 on every course end face stepped down as against full bricks so lines up with the window opening (Creating a weak point) (No lintel). Just got down to the rosemary roof tiles 2 layers stepped like bricks above the soldiers like you are showing 1 layer. I was surprised to find the 2 rows of Rosmery roof tiles weren't cut down like you have done or shorter ridge tiles. I didn't expect both 2 layers of full tiles to go threw/bedded into the inner wall to form a cantilever effect lineal, have you come across this? any idea what weight that will take? as I presume the rest of my window heads (no cracks all full bricks) will be the same? The next job is taking soldiers out to put a 2.7m signal leaf lintel in. hoping to find a wooden beam wonder inner wall
😳😳good luck 🧱👍🏽
Good ol boys
Thanks Matt 🧱👍🏽
YES Peeps he's spot on that brickwork is going NOWHERE
😁😉🧱👍🏽
Anyone who thought you need acros to hold up a triangle clearly doesn’t understand how a bridge holds weight 😂 acros are only really required when your taking out a door way/window when you don’t want to lose that amount of brickwork above but yours had already fallen pre you turning up!
Exactly sam 👌🏽🧱👍🏽
@@martin2466 😁🧱👍🏽
Lol, you haven’t had you dinner …. Lunch 😅
/// 😆🧱👍🏽
What else do you use those tiles for? I’m surprised that they are in stock!
Never used them before 🧱👍🏽
We believe in you Steve 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
😆 cheers Marc 🧱👍🏽
Hi guys, do you ever get people that aren’t happy with the colour match of the mortar or is it something you make clear to the client before starting?Do you look at the existing mortar and make a decision with your experience? Cheers boys, George 🇦🇺
Most people understand it’s nearly impossible to get a perfect match 🧱👍🏽
Mortar matching is a bit of a skill, hard to get right but you can get a decent match if you know your stuff and make an effort. So many brickies will just use whatever is in the back of their truck 😂
@@aussie8114 very true😬🧱👍🏽
Nice, really nice! You guys out dun did yourselves. Nice detail with the drip edge. Hope you have a good week and maybe a bit easier job on the next one. Ya'all really are becoming "Lintels R Us." Alex, try and keep your dad straight! Cheers mates from Texas!
Thanks buddy , yeah we wouldn’t have much work if we dodged the lintel jobs 😆😆.
Alex no too well at the moment 🤒🧱👍🏽
@@SteveAndAlexBuild Sorry to hear Alex is doing poorly. Hope it's not the Rona. Several at work have gotten in the last few weeks, it even with the double vax and it still hit them really hard for 3-4 days. Best wishes mates!

Blimey, you did a great job there. What a mess.
Thanks Nigel 🧱👍🏽
How much would it roughly cost to install two windows lintel, both are 3 meters wide, currently have no lintels and the walls are solid?
Sorry we never guess costs without a thorough inspection in person 😬🧱👍🏽
A nightmare job but you made it look great in the end 👌🍻
Cheers Richard 🤙🏾🤙🏾🧱👍🏽
Is the bottom (underneath) side of the drip edge sloping down or is it horizontal ?
They slope away 🧱👍🏽
@@SteveAndAlexBuild I thought so , but was not clear from the video. Great work guys, and great Vidoe
@@voytek_two_thousand Thanks very much 🧱👍🏼
I want to find Sheffield's answer to Steve and Alex to build my extension next year
😆😆🧱👍🏽
Those rusty lintels, how long have they been in and more importantly, how long do you expect the replacements to last? I assume, the originals would have been OK providing the DPM had been installed correctly? Great vlogs guys.
Thanks Brian I think the house is 1950 s . Hard to tell with the old lintels 🧱👍🏽
you both have done a fantastic job something to be proud off do you take pictures and keep them in a album to show people your work if you do not you should do thanks for the video
Cheers Eddie , loads of pics but in the phone 📱 😁🧱👍🏽
never seen the tile crease before, is it just cosmetic.
No David it’s got 2 uses .
1 the metric soldiers are too short in the imperial brick wall so they level up the bed .
2 They allow water to drop off instead running down the bricks 👌🏼🧱👍🏽
Guys, there is still 5 hours to go. I´m retired, I´m sitting here waiting, second beer, what state will I be in when you start?
😆😆🧱👍🏽🥴
Excelente trabajo felicidades 👊 💪 💯🧱
😁😁😁🧱👍🏽
I think there was a time when, for a while they made those butterfly ties with not enough galv on them. Like, a few batches at least. Enough that they failed on a load of properties up and down the country. So I heard anyway
Yep 🙄🧱👍🏽
In terms of costing a job like this, was that difficult? Especially as most of the repair area was hidden until you exposed the true extent of the damage.
Very Phil , a lot of extra work that isn’t seen unfortunately 😕🧱👍🏽
The title of the video....is Thing's Don't Go To Plan
Most jobs should have that title 😒
oops i was live commenting and the video either paused or ended LOL
On no 😬🧱👍🏽
Do u know what made I'm a chippy by trade and even I knew those props wasn't needed as the brick work would have held up lol
Thanks buddy 😁🤜🏽🤛🏽🧱👍🏽
im no bricky but I know an arch will self support itself like you have removed the bricks...........to form an arch.......
😁🤙🏾🤙🏾🧱👍🏽
does this mean your going to need to adjust your prices in future or will you stick to original ways and +1-2 days per job , you cant do stuff for free,,, looks like a gtreat finish so well done
A re think now 🧱👍🏽
Interested to know what blade you use to cut the mortar ? Also stage needs more training when talking with camera in hand. Sometimes muffled. Right, carry on
The blade is a
Bosch carbide masonry blade (£19 Toolstation) but only good in softish mortar . 4/1 and above it won’t last long .
The bloody go pro mic is biased towards the back of the camera unfortunately which is very frustrating 😤🧱👍🏽
@@SteveAndAlexBuild thanks never heard of that blade, will have a look. Also sorry about the mic
@@needaman66 . No probs 😁.
It’s a great blade. 👌🏼🧱👍🏽
The thing is with lintels, they only have to stop one brick falling out.
It has to go right across the window because you don't know which brick is going to fall out
😆😉🧱👍🏽
Didn’t think it was ‘that’ challenging…!!
😫😫😫🧱👍🏼
"Can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear". So much for that saying, you guys have done it and even put a cherry on top. Don't know what a silk purse will taste like with a cherry on top but what the hell. Absolutely great job. If I were to have one small point of criticism that would be not enough videos from you but still, such is life. One thing that I have noticed from a lot of your videos is that the jobs tend to take longer than what you priced. Just a small suggestion. I don't know how you price your jobs and really I don't want to know, but what I would suggest is whats called "fuck-up money". Add 10 or 20% to the price you quote and if the job goes very well, reduce the price when the customer is paying. That will give you peace of mind if it runs over and a hell of an advert if you reduce the price just as the customer is about to pay. It will show honesty on your side and that will soon spread or it will cover your costs if something fucks-up. In a nutshell, quality costs but honesty is priceless. Just a thought . Anyway, fantastic job. Well done.
Thanks pal i will bare that in mind 👍🏽🧱
i like that -trust me ----i am a doctor ,,ha ha
😆😆🧱👍🏽
I think this one was a loser never mind you can't win them all
Very true William ☹️🧱👍🏽
I'm sorry but those lintels must be thicker and must be screwed to the wooden beam of the structure and the mixture does not match, it looks very bad, it needs to be washed with acid and water, maybe it will matches a little more.
No need to apologise for being completely wrong 👋🏾👋🏾
