Digital Zoom vs Optical Zoom in a Smartphone: What's the Difference?

We pit the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom camera against the OnePlus 7 Pro and see what's the difference between optical zoom and digital zoom. The Oppo Reno comes with 10x optical zoom while OnePlus 7 Pro comes with 3x optical and 10x digital zoom.

oneplus 7 pro doesn't have 3x optical zoom. It has 2.2x optical zoom and 0.8x zoom is through cropping. It has 13MP telephoto lens for portrait mode but in "3x zoom" images are of 8MP. 🤓
