The iPhone XS has optical zoom now I believe up to 2x now and the digital zoom up to 10x

Digital zoom is just cropping. Any camera can do that.

Also the optical zoom on phones just switches to a different camera which has a darker aperture which equals worse shutter speed and iso.

Periscope is hybrid between digital and optical. The periscope is still better than digital but optical still beats both digital and periscope.
