      @@burger9997 It was 8 degrees right at the Barents Sea, but I had up to 25 degrees north of the Arctic Circle. I prefer to travel to Norway in June, it tends to have good weather, while August is often more rainy.

      @@burger9997is there a good time to visit in the summer months when the bugs aren't too bad? Here when visiting Northern Ontario sometimes are unbearable with mosquitoes and black flies

    It has not changed much since 1986, when I was there (driving from the Netherlands). I only drove it at night (as far as there is a night in july). I remember there was a man selling hot dogs. He was asleep behind his counter, but I woke him up and he made us some hot dogs at 05.00 am. 🙂Nice guy, not very talkative, but nice nonetheless.

      Interessante sapere che eri la già nel 1986 , per cui ti chiedo se al tempo ti era riuscito di capire se le case vicino alla scuola ed alla chiesa fossero ancora regolarmente abitate.
      Pochi anni fa sembrava non fossero più abitate regolarmente.
      Grazie .

    I'm amazed at the amount of green tree coverage this far north of the Arctic Circle and up to 25C in the area for June. I could easily be fooled for thinking this was southern Norway. Can you put any animals on the paddock at 3:20?

    • @bjornmu
      @bjornmu 11 місяців тому +1

      The cattle grid at 6:45 is to stop cows or (more likely) sheep from using the road to get to the wrong side of the fence.

    So what do people do for a living so far north? Agriculture seems a bit difficult over there. Or is it animal husbandry?

    • @EuropeanRoads
      @EuropeanRoads  11 місяців тому

      I wondered about that as well. Maybe in the military or border patrol. It's pretty far from Kirkenes to commute, a long drive over low standard roads until you hit E105.

    • @Glenni91N
      @Glenni91N 11 місяців тому +1

      @@EuropeanRoads Aside from the two you mentioned; Likely fishing, working for KIMEK, I think some mines outside Kirkenes re opened.
      There are farms out in Finnmark that have cows for dairy, most northern one is in Lebesby Municipality, northwest of Kirkenes.
      After all, it's not that long of a drive, 59 minutes each way to join E105 and all the way to Kirkenes.
      A few of the houses you see along this road could just be cabins though.
      It's pretty common that what used to be houses way out in places like this just get repurposed as that.
      Say you live in Kirkenes, but your grandma lived out there until she got too told, and had to move to an elderly centre.
      You can now either sell that house, which might mean a long wait for a buyer, or just simply use it as a seasonal home to get away from town.

    • @EuropeanRoads
      @EuropeanRoads  11 місяців тому +1

      @@Glenni91N This road, although most of it is paved, has very low design standards and is very bumpy, you can't drive 80 km/h on it. I drove from Kirkenes and back, it was a good hour each way. In winter it's probably a difficult commute to do every day.
      What I liked in Northern Norway is that people take care of their houses and yards. They look nice, unlike footage I've seen from other arctic areas (like Alaska, northern Canada, Greenland, Russia), which are more rough and rundown. The relatively mild climate probably allows better landscaping than in those barren areas.

    • @Glenni91N
      @Glenni91N 11 місяців тому

      @@EuropeanRoads Yeah, but that's the thing, regarding the road. You're likely not used to this, with a Dutch mindset.
      But there's many, many people who live in rural areas in Norway that commute to work every single day on longer routes than this. 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours.Rain, wind, shine or snow. --- You don't even have to go all the way to the edge of the country in the far north east to find this. I have friends myself that drive from Valen in Kvinnherad to Odda in western Norway. Look it up on the map, and you'll see that large chunks of the road there isn't exactly designed for 80 km/h either. The road's nice from Valen to a little bit past Husnes, but after that, you can barely fit more than one car in width. That's just one place, I know plenty other places, the area around Stadt, and the West Cape is almost exclusively narrow roads.
      ---And the same used to be true of the island Bømlo between Haugesund and Bergen, having gotten car sick on many trips there in my childhood I remember roads there were TERRIBLE. Narrow, bumpy, potholes, you name it. And this was shared on an Island of 10 000.
