It would also be very interesting to know if there's any old runic, futhark and burial mound sites in the very north parts here of Norway? Most of the ones people talk about are burial mounds down by Sweden, and especially south coast. I don't even hear of anything from runic or futhark script sites in Norway...

I, too, was surprised at how open/peaceful the border appeared.

Was in this exact spot 4 years ago. Some in our little tour group went swimming in the Barents Sea (others at home were worried that we were encountering polar bears!). This was August 2018. Such an interesting part of the world with so many borders converging. Also interesting that wildlife and indigenous people don't care about borders and the borders don't care about them. I took pictures of the street signs in Kirkenes - in Norwegian, Finnish and Russian. Loved the museum in Kirkenes - so much history about WWII. Takk for the memories!

That was really interesting. How cool to be so close to Russia. As a young giurl, it was always on my bucket list to go to Russia someday, and to even learn the language. Such a fascinating culture. I agree so much with your thoughts about how we humans set borders between us, and we distinguish and separate ourselves by something other than our humanity. It is a very sad thing. I am encouraged by the accounts of astronauts who, when seeing our fragile earth from space, realize how united we truly are. Racing through space on a tiny speck in the universe. We are in fact, bound by our humanity, not separated by it. Beautifully video, Jarl. As always. Thank you for having our language and country on your bucket list! It is a great honour and truly humbling to know that ppl of other cultures are willing to explore your culture, nature, cities, ways of life etc. Russian language though might be almost an insurmountable challenge for the English speaking native but I know many Americans and Brits who tamed and harnessed that quite well so it is doable, or better yet don't worry about language at all who cares just come to enjoy some scenery and whatever fits your tastes. ;D Good luck.

That's actually pretty interesting question. I would wonder too if any Russians try to sneak into Norway, etc or into Finland... not so much as soldiers but maybe fleeing the state?
They say many Russians fled to like Armenia and Georgia recently when they had their draft.
But many people are good in many countries. Its not the fault of them what their governments do.
      ...

There is a Place in Alaska where the Native Alaskans share Friendships with the Russians. At one time, the Natives say there was an Ice Bridge that enabled both Country's to WALK to each other. They say that each year there would be a Celebration of each other's Cultures & Friendship. This "Celebration" has been discontinued. The "Alaskan" describing this "Friendship" did not know "WHY" this yearly "Celebration" had been stopped........
I never knew that Russia shared a Border with Norway. Never knew this. I wonder how many others do not know this? Sad, that we cannot seem to share, Jarl. I agree with you regarding "Borders". Unless there is an obvious "FENCE"......there appears to be NO Borders. Yet, this INVISIBLE BARRIER seems to create such hatred & FEAR....in a human's mind.
WAR is not the 'answer' to anything. It is difficult to think these "PEACE" thoughts if you are living in a place like Ukraine. History has proven that WAR will be never ending if we continue repeating these same thoughts about 'ownerships & borders'.

    Hello Jarl!
This winter I started watching videos about hiking in the forest and found your videos. They are philosophical and calm.
You use good equipment in your hikes. I can't buy this, but I was going to buy a sleeping bag anyway. I made wide snowshoes from vine branches myself and was very happy when I walked in them.
I live on the other side in Russia, to the south, at the latitude of Latvia, but slightly to the east. According to these coordinates, (57 °01's.w. 29 °54 s.q.) On the third of January 2023, with a storm wind of 44 km/ h, a rainbow was visible. I made a small video about this phenomenon ua-cam.com/video/148hGM_D0F8/v-deo.html

You are not supposed to aggresively take photos / film into the Russian side like you did. Could you please write a hand-written apology letter to Putin and deliver it to the Russian embassy in Oslo?

I only speak Ukrainian. I am using google translator. Therefore, please excuse me if the translation is bad! I am from Western Ukraine. I am a nurse and I save lives. I live now in Germany. I need a lawyer to file, with other disabled citizens of Ukraine, a lawsuit against Norway. My husband, a Ukrainian (oil worker, human rights activist) became disabled as a result of his defense of the rights of other people (Norwegian and Russian media for 9 years). My husband fought corruption in the Russian oil giant, which was headed by the founder of the 6th Directorate of the FSB and the ex-Chancellor of Germany. My husband defended the rights of disabled people and Ukrainians in Norway against Russian-speaking citizens of this NATO country. The Norwegians took my disabled husband to Moscow AFTER: anti-war pickets of my husband in the Russian Federation, his defense of the rights of Ukrainians in Norway, the issuance of documents to my husband by the Norwegian Red Cross for his close relatives (Polish servicemen repressed by the Russians), sentencing his defender to prison (in married to a citizen of Finland for 25 years) in Belarus, who reported the crime of the Norwegians against the Ukrainians and was recognized as a Political prisoner. My husband and his lawyer warned the Norwegians about the coming war, but they did not believe him. The husband was kidnapped and the war began. And after the war began, the Norwegians do NOT admit their mistakes! Unlike the Swedes, the Norwegians DO NOT LIKE to admit their mistakes even when the Chechen refugees deported by the Norwegians were killed in the Russian Federation (Norwegian media).ssss

@@NorwegianXplorer In Oslo, they give the Peace Prize to those citizens of the Russian Federation who PREVIOUSLY condemned, together with the Norwegian media, the NATO country (Norway) for the deportation of refugees from Norway to the Russian Federation, where, according to these Peace Prize winners and the Norwegian media, the refugees were then killed.
Those who were awarded the Peace Prize in Oslo offer me (and I am a citizen of Ukraine) to go to the Russian Federation, where the Norwegians forcibly (!) took my Ukrainian husband (a disabled Anti-Corruption Fighter), whom I had not seen for a very long time.
Norwegians condemn the Russian Federation for helping Ukrainians to voluntarily move to the Russian Federation WITHOUT (!) separating the families of Ukrainians.
This does not prevent the Norwegians from forcibly exporting Ukrainians, after their anti-war pickets in the Russian Federation, back to the Russian Federation (and I live in Ukraine, not in the Russian Federation).
The Norwegians repressed my Ukrainian husband (human rights activist - disabled) because disabled Ukrainian citizens (potitologists) abducted from Norway (without trial), who taught the language to refugees in Norway, declared my husband in The Hague to be the main witness to the crimes of a NATO country against Ukrainians - disabled people. The defender of my husband, who notified the Norwegians about the crime of the NATO country, was not allowed to defend her colleague - my husband. My husband's advocate was then sentenced to prison and declared a Political Prisoner. My husband's defender, like my Ukrainian husband, was forcibly brought to the Russian Federation (although my husband's defender has been married to a Finnish citizen for 25 years).
My husband defended the rights of disabled Ukrainians in Norway.
My husband fought corruption in a Russian Company run by foreigners, including the Ex-Chancellor of Germany, with which Norway cooperated (Norwegian media about MY husband).
My husband opposed the collective (!) expulsion of people with disabilities practiced by Norwegians in violation of international law. Ukrainians who became disabled as a result of protecting the rights of others (media), after anti-war pickets in the Russian Federation, were repressed by Norwegians in a NATO country for human rights activities, for protecting the rights in Norway of those who became disabled in Norway as a result of torture by Russian-speaking citizens of a NATO country. The abduction of Ukrainians by Norwegians took place after the Norwegian Red Cross handed Ukrainians documents on close relatives - military personnel of a NATO country (repressed in the Russian Federation).
I haven’t seen my Ukrainian husband for a very long time, whom the Norwegians, after his anti-war pickets in the Russian Federation, forcibly took to the Russian Federation.
