Chester will probably have more responsibility at WVU so he can get a better chance at a HC gig. It’s also closer to home and he and Brad just have different recruiting/coaching staffs. Brad also has a great relationship with Boynton so don’t be surprised if he snatches him from Michigan. Antigua is the home run though

Epps, Harris and Hansberry will be at WV. (Illinois east)

Chester is committed to bring in underranked, try hard development guys. BU has shifted to Get Old, Stay Old through the portal sprinkled with high end freshmen that could have an impact immediately. No sense bringing in guys that you're gonna recruit over because they need development because they're gonna leave anyway. Chester wants to run motion offense and lots of sets, BU wants to run a pro style offense driven by analytics. Mutually beneficial to both programs.

Frazier should help WV, not sure it hurts Illinois much

If it's not Antigua, then it's Cohen from Xavier or (gasp) Boynton. Also heard Brad was sniffing around Rod Clark. He whiffs on all those then it's Yak.

In press conferences, Brad said that he largely let the players run practice this last year because it was such a veteran group. I don't know if that's true, but if so it might mean he'd be open to an assistant coach running the defensive practices

Illinois defensive problems stemmed from not having a big man. Antigua would help in that area.

It's also worth noting that Chester had been actively interviewing/trying to get interviews for some of the low/mid major jobs on the east coast for a few weeks prior to this to no avail (with Brad's help trying to get him interviews). Chester has head coaching aspirations and many Illini fans want him to be the head coach some day, but he needs to get a start somehow, somewhere, and he wasn't getting that opportunity as an assistant at Illinois. I don't think it's a coincidence that (at least title wise) he's taking the role at WVU that Alexander has at Illinois. Chester gets to be closer to home, have a technical promotion, and theoretically be in a better position get hired for a smaller head coaching job since he'll now be recruiting and coaching in the area he's trying to get said head coaching job. On the flip side, Illinois doesn't lose a whole recruiting wise since Chester's guys were consistently the ones being recruited over by transfers, and it opens an assistant coach spot which Brad was really hoping for this off season (mentioned Chester looking for a head coaching gig, but so was Alexander). Where Illinois goes is up in the air, and I agree with both takes on this from Greg and Carter. Antigua would be great from a recruiting and raw development (he made Kofi who he was), and Yaklich paired with Tyler could be an insane defense-offense duo coaching wise. But like Greg said, if we're not focusing much on recruiting and development, how much does Antigua add? Idk how much pure coaching Antigua adds vs recruiting. Illinois already has Tim Anderson who is primarily a recruiter, do they need another?

I love Chester Frazier.. but it's not a shock and absolutely will not hurt Illinois. A difference in philosophy, Chester going back out East, and will be Associate Head Coach @ WVU. Probably will end up being good for everyone. ILL 🧡 💙

Aside from this year the defense has been like top 35 other years so I think you guys are letting this one year dictate your narrative

Antigua will be highly paid. North of a million for an assistant coach

Probably going to be better for Frazier in the long run for his goal of being a Head Coach. His contacts are better in that area, for recruiting, and I think it's more likely to land a job on the east coast where he has the most connections. I agree though wish it would have worked out (like Frazier, he is def an Illini guy!) In fairness we haven't have a freshman who could perform immediately at a high level for a top 25 type of team regardless. (hence the portal) Antiqua would be awesome, but I would be surprised if he comes back.

the lateral move was because of few things brewing over this year. Brad had been listening more to his son and less Chester and the defense collapsed. Brad was more interested in offense and defense took a back seat. Secondly, Chester wants to go closer to DC. It was obvious after Jase Butler decommit and CF rumor - that Hansberry and Harris would follow

There was a rumor going around Kentucky over the weekend that Orlando was interested in interviewing with Mark Pope to stay put at UK. It sounds like he had just bought a new baller house and doesn't want to move more than he's ready for a change from being Calipari's right-hand man or is dissatisfied with working with Cal or moving to arkansas?

You don't hire Yaklich as an assistant, if anything you hire him for a consulting gig (probably not even that). He's recruited no one ever.
Orlando Antigua is a star. You want that guy on your staff.

Chester don't want to replace players that have waited patiently for playing time. Underwood wants championship . Niether is wrong. Difference in opinion. Good luck to chester. Great guy.

Don’t make assumptions about how Brad runs his practices you don’t know. Maybe he will give the keys to the new assistant to do his thing. Brad is a great human being great coach just because he yells at his kids sometimes like every other coach does but, you don’t hear about because it’s not Brad doing it he gets a bad rap for no reason. Any coach who works under Brad is working for a great man. Oh by the way he’s the head of Coaches Fo Cancer. Go Illini

Another chester guy is Jaden epps in the portal. Chester will be missed and is taking a promotion to be an associate head coach. He wasn't that illinois. I love him and will miss him but I think this is a career move not s passion move or a move because of bad blood.

Yes, by all means, let's fire the coach who's won three B1G titles, developed three consensus all-Americans, just led a completely revamped team to 29 wins. Makes complete sense. What a clown.
