I was there last week of June, and that was the worst fishing ever, but thanks for the info on the rigs, I will use those next time and use the wife technique spot on the beach, take care of those Hey Dudes, lol
Waiting to come down. I'm an old Corpus Christian I grew up fishing there. I got a jeep and all fishing equipment. Used to go down to Mansfield to surf back in the days. Can't wait. Peace Thanks for the information.
Awesome!!!! Thanks for the info. Appreciate all the FB updates and your videos. I’m coming down in September for the first time and have learned a lot from you.
Hello brother....love your content....thank you for all your information.Im sure that I'm not the only one that can use these tips for fishing.Hope to some day run in to ya on the beach.Have a great day.... again thank you...👍✌️
Good to see you back with a video. Great information you're giving. I really don't go on holidays because of people not being respectful of others. And crowded conditions. But keep it up. ❤
how do you check surf conditions down PINS as far as water clarity, tide, temp, wind etc. to know when it would be a good day/week to go? You said you throw lures like spoons when its a green or yellow flag but is there a way to know what your getting into before you get there? and what time of year or what conditions are ideal for throwing spoons in surf to catch trout and reds? and best way to rig it up (directly to the main line, say 30lb braided, or with a leader/swivel of some sort?) - sorry lots of questions but I've been searching internet and can't quite find the answers! I'm also kinda stupid
You can see daily surf reports on our community page the link is above or you can go to tides4fishing. Any time of the year is good as long as the surf is under 2 feet. the best time is spring and summer. You can use 20-pound test hooked up to a leader line of any pound strength. Use a swivel and then hook to the spoon. Green and yellow flags are the best when using spoons. Red flag forget about it.
Also about the live shrimp, I personally would not use it in the surf. The trash fish will cost you a fortune. Use live shrimp at jetties and back in the bays. Use salted shrimp or UN slated what ever you prefer
Great video buddy, I grew there and live in Oregon now. When I fish the surf, I always headed down to little shell and spent the weekend with my buddies and we always did well. Create a camp and drive up and down looking for birds and bait and fish in the water on the surf. The further down you drive the fewer guts you have allowing you to fish smoother and deeper water close to shore. Prepare for weather and surf conditions before you go. Keep up the great videos.
Dude! I lived around Freeport Texas for 10 years, and when I was a kid, I did the same thing you did… Everything wrong!😂 I appreciate your videos so much and I will hopefully be making a trip to North Padre Island sometime in October or November to camp out in my RV and do some fishing.
I was there during Father’s Day weekend. All I pulled up was seaweed was horrible fishing. All I caught was hard head. No matter where I fished. The jetties surf or the pier was guaranteed seaweed I finally made it down to the Mansfield cut. I finally got my first 4 wheel drive Nissan Titan. Was great to finally make it that far. Great video beach bum. Stay safe stay healthy
haha hell yeah. I finally got my 4 wheel drive truck last week and all I've been thinking about is Thank GOD I can finally start going down to PINS! Now I just have to find the right gear and learn when to go and where to throw. Would go this weekend but it's Easter ... way too packed. And the conditions are kinda shit. Hope to get out there in April though!
Great info! Definitely worth the money investing in decent gear! I thought I was the only one who had bad luck with mullet in the surf. Tight lines brother!
I live in south Texas south Padre island I’ve never gone fishing like this I heared to go to beach access 6 n drive on the sand n fish u can catch reds I got a ford f 150 with no 4x4 I hope I can drive on the sand
Love surf fishing only thing I seem to be able to catch is whiting. But I have a blast doing it . Always have a hard time reading the breaks to find the guts
Thanks for this information! I am one of those guys it only comes down every so often. I was given some advice years ago by a guy, but I realize that apparently I was not able to put together everything he told me! Maybe just too much information at one time, lol. One thing I do remember him telling me was to look for a beach that has a lot of shells or broken shells and fish there-any information regarding that? My other hobby is metal detecting, so you can imagine with a wife and kids and all of the things that I want to do and they want to do that time for my hobbies is very limited!
Great advice! Thank you. I gave up on shrimp a long time ago for surf. Question, when you salt them, do you put them in the fridge or leave out on counter in container? Thanks in advance
You mention using heavier pyramid and sputnik weights, but the rod and reel setups you mentioned also, seem like they wouldn't be able to handle 3 plus ounce weights... do the rod specs not matter or are you using heavier rods?
Hey man I have been watching your channel for years thanks for the referral to stanfields tackle they have great gear! I had a quick question about rod size when throwing soft plastics in the surf or even in the back bays. It seems too much work with a 7 + foot rod. Is a 5.5 feet too small to throw soft plastics out in the back bays? I feel like the perfect size is around 6.5 for that type of fishing what do you think ?
yes that;s fine I use my 7.6 with soft plastics and it works great. That light wieght rod and reel setup I show in the video is great for soft plastics.
@@texasbeachbum really want to try surf fishing but I don't have 4 wheel drive, and after years in the coast guard Id be embarrassed if I had to call for help🤣
Hey man great tip with the salted baits man my shrimp stayed on so good this morning!! I only used a small amount of what I salted though, I was wondering if I freeze it will it still keep that same firm texture when it thaws each time? Cuz you know how bad and slushy normal frozen shrimp gets. But it will still stay firm after the first salting process? Thanks
Dude that’s crazy the shrimp doesn’t even get like super hard when you freeze it after it’s been salted! Did yours stay real firm and not get hard like normal shrimp does? That’s awesome it works after being freezed
I'm laughing because as people trying to fish, you're telling us to look for breaks and rip currents. I guess if I was a married man I wouldn't tell the wife were purposely looking for currents. If not yall definitely won't be fishing. 🤣 but thank you for the video this pass Sunday I was out early on the jettys trying to fish on my own . No luck .. My little autistic sister now wants to be joining me on my new hobby. An I believe she would enjoy serf fishing more then the jettys. I'm definitely going to apply the tips you recommended to better the odds for our next fishing adventure.

Fishing down here sucks about 80% of time
Dude. I’ve gone many times in Texas beaches and it ain’t bad at all. Reds, sharks and of course a lot of hardheads. It’s a good time
@@BringTheBeaver yes you are right but if you come from out of town you might think this way as you usually only have a few days.
Thank you for your support my friend. I look forward to fishing with you sometime.

They will catch anything except sharks.
Thanks for the info I'm salting shrimp tonight me and the family are heading down to North padre tomorrow morning
Thanks!

Thanks for sharing Nickaway’s link!! You should come to the casting lessons sometime!

I definitely need casting lessons with the 12 footers 😁

You can do either
I got a pod2. Shark detergent. Attached to ankle. Proven to work against sharks.
I need one

You mention using heavier pyramid and sputnik weights, but the rod and reel setups you mentioned also, seem like they wouldn't be able to handle 3 plus ounce weights... do the rod specs not matter or are you using heavier rods?
Heavier rods
Don’t forget to mention about parking permits, fishing or camping
Why do you not use live shrimp surf fishing?
Because the whiting and hard heads will steal it before the big fish get a chance
What is an inverse rod 5:23

What does it mean when it is green flag or yellow flag?
green flag is calm waters and yellow is getting rough surf and currents
I spy a Mountain dew!!!!
