No comparison. Mark has nothing valuable to offer whatsoever. Just empty pep talks stuffed with trite platitudes and empty anecdotes. Ryan can be pep talky too, but at least he's referencing important philosophical thinkers. Mark is literally just ranting and preaching.
@@5eant_ It's a spot on take actually. Mark has nothing concrete to offer. No clear or practical takeaways or actionable steps. No research, knowledge, or uncommon experience went into his work. He was just in a mood one day and hammered out a rant/pep talk that went viral. That's literally all it is.

Great meditation to start the day. I love the Tenessee Williams and Oscar Wilde quotes. We actively needs artists like that in our daily routine to be able to think critically, creatively, and make sure that we aren't going about our days under the guise of heuristics.

Never read a book by Ryan Holiday but I definitely will, what Mark said about the average person picking a book is very true I bought “The subtle art of not giving a fu*k “ BECAUSE the title 😂 both are very good authors life is a bitch either deal with it or get beat by it

Why does anybody listen to Mark Menson? He has no particular knowledge or experience. He had a single, edgy blog post rant that he turned into a best-selling airplane read, with no practical value to offer anybody. He's not exactly Socrates.
Many people find his work valuable, if you're not one of them why bother coming here to say something negative?

Mostly women, and exclusively people who are blinded by the emotional charge they get from his pep talks, and can't recognize that his work is comprised exclusively of empty platitudes and trite anecdotes, with zero actionable strategies or recommendations.

If what he says and how he says it can help some...then by all means, why not? Not everybody is going to like his style or his arguments. But that's the thing about creating stuff...you can't control who's gonna find it valuable and who isn't. There's no objective way to measure something that is so intrinsically subjective as expressing your points of view in whichever format right?...cuz it's your point of view!
We just can't generalize about it and say that his work has no application or that is empty. I read the book, I liked it, found myself coming back to it time and time again, and honestly some of his advice work better than more formal and "serious" books talking about the same things but with fancier words.
And what does that mean? that I'm an empty headed and incapable of discerning right from wrong?
It's just simply not like that. We all process the world and information in a very different way from one another. You do it your way, and the rest theirs. If something doesn't work for you, just move on. The world doesn't need to know if it did or if it didn't, and don't take me wrong, I'm not saying you should not share your opinion. I'm of the thought that if your opinion serves to lift others and is constructive, then go ahead...but what do you gain from doing the opposite? Like, really, and honestly asking, what value do you get from talking down from others and their work with no real evidence of what it means to be them and go through whatever experiences they found useful to thrive?
Yeah, you're totally in your right to say "Hey, this doesn't work, or his content is not valuable" as long as you emphazise "for me".
