    We've done abeka for about 5 yrs...we just started teaching textbooks. My GOODNESS ME !! I LOVE love loveeeee that my daughter actually has to answer the question vs abeka where the teacher asks a question a student in the class answers and moves on. So my daughter can either just not do the problem or not understand and it still moves on. Teaching textbooks she has to participate to move on in the lesson which helps SO MUCH !

      Yes!! I actually forgot about having to try to answer the questions first. My daughter used to get a little frustrated. We are love TT also. It’s pretty great! 😉

      @@simplyhomeschool18 I'm so excited about it my daughter is actually really enjoying it! I always ended up taking an extra hour with review because she missed most of what the teacher said. Also love no distractions in TT, like abeka my daughter noticed what this one was wearing etc 😅
      I feel like making those switches from just all abeka..has already helped the atmosphere of our schooling !

    We love Teaching Textbooks. It is such a great program. My son is behind in math and had been using MUS, but after time I thought he would do better with a spiral approach so we switched to TT, and it has been a game changer. He is catching up in math and is understanding the majority of concepts quickly. I love how the practice of old concepts but still learning new ones. I also love that if there is something he doesn't understand I can watch how it is done with him and help him. Oh and the automatic grading is a huge plus. On a side note if there is something my son needs more practice on then I will print off MUS worksheets from their worksheet generator. Anyways, it is a great program.

    My daughter is in 7th grade and we are homeschooling for the first time this school year. We are using Teaching Textbooks Math 7 for her and we are BOTH loving it! When we purchased the curriculum before the start of this school year, we had to start with T.T. Version 3.0 knowing that 4.0 was coming out VERY SOON! We loved 3.0 and the 4.0 is EVEN BETTER! She really enjoys all the “fun” little choices she can make as far as choosing an Avatar as well as wall paper and sticker options. I love that I can see what she is doing by logging into my own parent login area which requires my own password. I can also choose to allow or not allow a hint option and a 2nd try option for lessons and quizzes (which I do allow). Have your child do the T.T. placement test to figure out where your child should start! Whether your child struggles or excels in Math it will let you know which level they recommend for your child to begin. You do not have to follow typical grade levels. My daughter has never loved Math, but there have been numerous times that I will hear her laugh during Math or will later tell me something funny her Avatar person said in her lesson! WE LOVE LOVE LOVE Teaching Textbooks!

    Thanks for sharing. I pray that you and your family are healing and feeling much better. This was a very helpful video. I will be a first time home school mom for my son who will be a 3rd grader next year. Right now and all through out school him and my daughter who is in 7th grade have been a a private Christian school. Right now both are virtual however my son's school has already decided to start back 100% in person for the 2021-22 school year. So I have decided to homeschool him next year. I'm must admit that it seems to be a little intimidating however with God determination , dedication and prayer all things are possible❣ Peace and Blessings to you and your family❣

      Hi Crystal. Thank you so much! 💗 I’m so happy this was helpful. My daughter started her kindergarten year out at a Christian Private School as well. That is why when I decided to homeschool her, I went with Abeka. She was familiar because that’s what they were teaching her. It made for a really smooth transition. The math change to Teaching Textbooks was definitely a game changer for her. She actually LOVES doing math now, and I love that she loves it. You can always have your son do some of their practice problems that are on their website. Just to see how he likes it. And they have a placement “test” so you know which level to place him. In whatever choice you make, I hope he loves it. And the great thing about homeschooling is, if he doesn’t enjoy it or do well with a particular curriculum, you can change it! 😉 Prayers for you on your new homeschooling journey. You got this Mama! 💕

    Thanks for the information!
    I will consider Teaching Textbooks!
    I had to sit with Abeka for hours and pre-watch lessons so I could skip, bookmark, and catalog lessons for my daughters so they wouldn’t have to watch the whole thing but could jump to the important parts.
    They’re back in school now, but I need a good program for summer. I was thinking about BJU press. Since they have a teacher without the “classroom distractions”.
    By the way do you have any experience and advice for BJU?

    So my homeschool has become a bit challenging because I homeschool a 9th grader. She had completed 1 semester of Algebra 1 with Abeka and I'm frustrated because school takes us a long time and when she was "ready" for the midterm exam she wasn't really "ready". I wonder if my daughter can pick up where she is lacking with TT. I feel like when she didn't understand a concept she just skipped it and she didn't answer it on a test and she just said I'll just take the points off. 🤷‍♀️ will it be too bad if she starts TT from the beginning and still finish in July at this point in time?

    • @simplyhomeschool18
      @simplyhomeschool18  Рік тому +1

      Hi, honestly we have moved on from Teaching Textbooks. I feel like they don’t cover everything you need to know (especially high school.) I feel like TT is great for younger grades, but not so much for the older grades. Now, these are just my opinions and everyone connects to specific curriculums differently. My 9th grade niece has actually gone back to Abeka, but my 5th grade daughter has been doing Saxon. We use Nicole the math lady and it has been going great. I would check out some videos on Saxon.

    • @thefamilytimes4091
      @thefamilytimes4091 Рік тому

      Thank you for your update! I watched another review about TT not covering everything but by the time they're done with both algebra they should know everything. I think TT is working so far because my daughter needs basics almost to the point that she needs to take pre algebra again. So I think the small lessons and the basic lessons for her are so far working good. I hope it does work out for us.

    My plan is to use abeka in the beginning for a strong foundation in math and then switch to teaching textbooks. At what age do you reccomend starting teaching textbooks? I am using abeka academy streaming for math for my daughter. (She is in 1st grade)I am very happy with it but I do plan to swap to TT eventually for budgeting sake. I have considered starting teaching textbooks in 3rd grade but I wasn't sure if 4th would be better?

    • @simplyhomeschool18
      @simplyhomeschool18  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Elizabeth. That’s what I plan on doing with my son, as well. I love the strong foundation Abeka has laid for my daughter. Honestly, I couldn’t give you an age. They start with level 3. When I was originally going to place my daughter, I was just going to put her on the level 3 because I thought that’s where she belonged (3rd grade) But, after I had her do the placement she was easily in level 4. I’m happy with starting her off for third grade. But, it’s really just preference. You can always have her take the placement and see what you think. I hope this helps. 😉

    Do you have your daughter fill out the problems in the textbook? I tried teaching textbooks in 2nd with my daughter (level 3) and it was so beyond what she had learned in Horizons....we stopped using it. She loved it tho but I felt maybe she wouldn't get as good of a math education from using it. You dont feel that way after using it before 50 lessons? I would love for her to use it again because she loved it. So level 4 is learning all multiplication and division? Now I'm thinking maybe do a switch now and see how she does for the rest of the year.

    • @simplyhomeschool18
      @simplyhomeschool18  3 роки тому

      She has only worked out of the book twice. She does all her work online. When the problems have to be worked out, I have her write the problems out on a white board. She really enjoys doing it that way.
      I thought the same thing. But, I can see my daughter is learning and excelling. Not to mention she loves math. So, for now, I am really happy with Teaching Textbooks. I did struggle with thinking how advanced she’d be, if she was still working with Abeka. But, then I thought, does that even matter. She is learning and loving it. That is a WIN for me, and definitely for her!

    If a child excels in math, couldn't they just move more quickly through TT to a higher more challenging level? Also, concerning the paper workbook, does the child do the problem in the book and then type in the answer on the screen. It would seem they'd need scratch paper for problems anyway, so if that's the case, I'd like the problems pre-printed in a workbook.

    • @simplyhomeschool18
      @simplyhomeschool18  2 роки тому

      You are completely correct. You can totally move them up in the levels. For the newer versions of TT they have a scratchpad included in the app (if you are using an iPad) here is a link to a more recent video on TT that I’ve done.
