Me, too, Adam's Mom. I have no problem admitting I'm weaker than my hubby. Who cares!! We're smarter, because we let them pick up the heavy stuff!! 🤣🤣🤣
Not true about the smarter - my hubby is stronger & smarter than I am. That's why God gave him to me! 🤷‍♀️💃💞 Have a great day! Your son is amazing!!

Adam, no need to apologize….. if people watched more they would see how considerate you are of others…… also, by stopping and addressing what you deem as a potential problem only brings more light to your statement. Most people would have missed it in my opinion…… keep up the good work.

Me and my brother in law used to use big splits. Now after both having back surgeries, the smaller splits the better. Firewood is only supposed to be “work” when cutting and splitting. Burning it in the winter is supposed to be enjoyable and not “work”. I also believe the vast majority of your viewers know your personality well enough that if you said something it would be from personal experience and you would never want to upset or offend anyone intentionally or unintentionally.

no need to apologize but it was nice that you did. I thought it was pretty cool you took the time to edit that piece in. Glad to see you chopping the larger stuff down to a nice size to handle. I remember watching that 4 way splitter on the processor (before the 8 way arrived) and thinking some of those pieces going up the elevator were a little larger than you normally process. Either splitter is nice to watch. I am still operating off of a single wedge, 3 point attachment splitter that runs off the hydraulics of my JD tractor. lets just say it is teaching me patience.

Great videos. I noticed a possible improvement for your assembly line that is something I have done in the past. Set the tote to be split to your right and elevate the tote on blocks or a platform so you are not bending down as much. Grab a piece on your right, split, put in the finish tote on your left. Much better from an ergonomic view point. Those little movements add up as you get older!

  • @TheFirewoodHut
    @TheFirewoodHut 2 роки тому +7

You left out the elderly also. :) It's also a safety issue too: most ppl don't wear steel toe shoes inside the house & if you loose grip on a large piece of firewood...
Smaller pieces season faster & more versatile in the wood stove.

Between the pond and the garage build there's been a lot of (you tube) time invested. I'd forgotten about the axis but thought we were overdue for a sawmill video. Given that you have a fulltime job and a young family I'd imagine your spread pretty thin. I like smaller splits for many reasons, the main purpose being ease of handling by everyone. Especially denser hardwood species. Women, men, kids, elderly folks of all shapes and sizes should be able to handle firewood easily. Smaller splits also dry much faster in a stack. Clean and efficient burning is another good reason to go smaller. It's common sense. Adam, you haven't said anything that anyone should take offense to. Have a great one!

I seen nothing wrong with what you said I have been doing firewood for 22 years now. When I get a new customer one of the 1st things I ask is how much does you wife take care of the stove what ever the answer I will ask do you need me to make smaller wedges for her and I will get back that would be nice of you. I have a older lady thats in her 80s and I do custom firewood for her that is 13 to 14 inches long and small wedges so she can still enjoy wood heat that she loves so much it makes me feel good I can do this for her its not that much extra work for me with my dyna sc-16 processor and she is so happy with what I do for her. There is somebody that takes the wood into the house for her every other day but she can feed the stove on her own and keeps her independent. stay safe and good cutting

Great video Adam, Joe at Ohio Wood Burner has a similar situation as does Chris from In The Woodyard, yes a processor does help tremendously but as you, Joe, and Chris have said, you are going to get those pieces that you need a splitter to process down further to make the size firewood your customer prefers. The customer sets what they will pay for and you are in the customer satisfaction business and keep the customer happy which keeps them coming back. Keep up the great work and the great videos coming. 👍🏻👍🏻

I don't sell wood but what I cut for myself I split down to a opened handspan size. That's bigger than what I can carry with 1 hand and heavy enough that the better half tends to leave for me to feed the heater. The less splitting that I have to do the less wear and tear on me.
With the market for splitters being what it is at the moment I'd consider doing the resplits with the Japa and selling off the Axis. You could probably get close to the new cost of the splitter and for resplitting it wouldn't be much of a time penalty.

My wife and the woman that lives with us think a gallon of milk is too heavy anything over 4 pounds is avoided. Dont use wood furnace because they cannot load it. They were much stronger when younger. My two female cousins took over running a farm when their father got injured. They are two of the strongest women I know and are stronger than the average man. They are outliers.. I prefer larger pieces for a wood fireplace but smaller ones for stoves and furnaces. Smaller pieces will make most people happier. If they are buying bundles it is not for every day use.

I didn’t hear a sexist comment I heard someone wanting to make life easier for his loved ones

Adam, we live in a world where a few people want to change society, so they feign offense over differences in gender. If anyone is too thin skinned to understand how benign your comments were, then they really don't deserve to enjoy the content you put out. (IMO) Have a great day and week. I hope your enjoying the pond this summer.

I always appreciate smaller wood. No apologies, just common curtesy!,

At times it makes more sense to just run the log through as it comes and resplit later. At what stage in the firewood business, aka volume, would it make sense to upgrade to a smaller processor as the primary machine? If I upgrade to a processor, might be an el cheapo like the Range-Road and line up the logs for a log lift like Joe at OWB did with his first two processors. For what my commercial grade splitter costs, could've bought the Range-Road with log lift. But then I'd still need a splitter to do resplits or constantly do that on the processor.

It looks like you’re running low on fluid. Keeping the tank full will keep fluid temps down. Also, how did you get those dents in the splitter edge?

Maybe you might want to wrap or bag up that kindling and sell that.

Bag up your kindling and sell it by the bag as firestarter.
