I remember in the the episode that Stephen said that there was a lake nearby, so my assumption as a kid was that these 'scorpions' were actually merely a species of semi-aquatic Eurypterids, which I figured was an adequate explanation for their size. Now, looking back, I'm not so sure...
Yes, the oxygen in the atmosphere would have had to have been 6-7 times the level it is today, and even in the episode it's featured in, it's explicitly shown that the oxygen content is much less than it is today, only 20% oxygen.
not to mention that even with enough oxygen to grow big, they still couldn't get this large. Unless they had wings, which are quite important for an arthropod to grow big as well, as the rapid flapping of their wings also causes wind to flow in.
There were scorpions in history that looked like this but they didn’t have legs and a whip like tail they were not this big and they lived underwater they also lived in the Silurian period giving it it’s name
Personally, I would've liked to have seen the alpha mer creature fight a megalodon. That would've been an epic fight, similar to the gorgonopsid and the future predator
Considering these scorpions are from the Silurian, yes. Think of them as like the majority of dinosaurs from _Terra Nova_ in that they were created just for this series.

They're actually inspired by vinegaroons for sure. Just looking at their appendages that have no pincers and the whip tail.
I love the whipping sounds they make
The species shown in this episode do not represent any real extinct, prehistoric creatures. They are entirely fictional.
They may not look like any ancient animal, but they looks like an oversized vinegaroons.

For me, the Primeval silurian scorpion was a Mixopterus
imagine if the show was real and there really were prehistoric and future creatures coming to the present through time portals, i would move to mars
I wish, that would be awesome
@@peterstoric6560 Same too!

I'll call him "Deinoscorpio"
What Find Of Scorpions Are They?
Fictional. The design is based on Vinegaroons tho.
Giant whip scorpion
Is that Brontoscorpio
Brontoscorpio is much different it also appeared in this show
Its eurypteryd. I think look likes mixopterus
Is that even a prehistoric animal

I love the Idea of this but I kind of wished that some more known Silurian organisms were featured.
It's brontoscorpion.
no
Brontoscorpio later appeared in Primeval: New World
Silurian Scorpions in primeval are eurypteryds. I think look likes mixopterus
