In the Navy you have seen the world Art, many places and things most of us will never experience Glad you got together with Dave, he is a great guy Cheers Art
Good Sunday Morning Steve ..Tommy Mottola from Hall & Oates Manager to head Of Sony. Not a bad career. I see both Bono & The Edge with some frequency where I live. They both have homes in Santa Fe area of New Mexico as did Jeffrey Epstien. Saw Wolfgang Press open for Nick Cave & Bad Seeds in 87. Good shw. Going to see Smashing Pumpkins with Interpol this week. Interesting bill. Like the new Wilco track. Seeing them soon. That's the news from the 505 !
David it is incredible the concerts you go to I do like both Interpol and the Pumpkins but there music is definitely different from one another. That would be fun to see Bono (whose name I kept pronouncing wrong) and Edge just walking around. That seems to be just another typical day for you David. I got in a great game of golf by the Caribbean so my life is good! Cheers David
The Byrds certainly have a lot to answer for in terms of jangle- pop, and their influence..that Sumo, crazy catchy stuff. I've had to pull the reins in on those tone poet and impulse releases, they're terrific and so well presented but total wallet busters!..The Donald Byrd sounds wonderful. I need to get me some Popol Vuh, I loved Gila. Your description makes it very intriguing and I've heard their albums are quite diverse. The Bill Frisell has a nice languid feel. That version of Respect just screams 1980s. Have a great week Steve.
Rob, I’m like you and have really stopped buying a lot of those Blue Note reissues unless I really want them. Too much. I do watch Amazon as they continue to clearance them out. I then research it to make sure I would like it. Too much jazz has been bought, listened to and then shelved for years to come sadly. The Sumos, very catchy and very fun. Those darn Byrds, over 50 years later their legacy lives on. Cheers Rob
Hello Steve; Like the T- shirt. Sumos post punk jangle pop. Donald Byrd Pulsating Mood Jazz. Popol Vuh staring aimlessly out the window, the soundtrack of life. Bill Frisell soft eloquent Jazz flows. Xavion 80's guitar riff flare up. Tokyo Sex Destruction Oh He's Alone. WolfGang Press the Talking Heads influenced vocal comes thru. Some good vinyl finds take care, Tina & Pat!!~
Popol Vuh, staring aimlessly out the window, I like that one. The explains a lot Wolfgang Press I heard did lighten up in their next few albums. A depressed David Byrne lol. Cheers your two
You definitely got the proper pronunciation on Popol Vuh's band name Steve. I know by the eighties the band had changed their lineup except for Florian Fricke of course. I have a nice copy of the first album Affenstunde. I got into them late too. I think the drummer and the percussionist Holger something or another played with Amon Duul for a few stints. I know that Holger played on my favorite Duul album called 'Phallus Dei'. The Moog synth sound is prevalent throughout the debut. I am sure you will hear it on that one too. >< Nice to see that Frisell is still pumping out new music. What a talent. You are right. His music is diverse in many ways. I have been looking for some John Zorn on vinyl. Especially Naked City and Spy Vs Spy. So hard to find nowadays. He worked and played with with Frisell a number of times. It is mainly avant-garde jazz. But so so good. Have a nice endless summer day Steve~ Rob/Boston
Rob, I am enjoying the sun in PR. I am on the sunny south side for a few days. The north side has had all rain, good call on my part. Just waiting for the pool cleaners to finish up so I can go for a dip!!! Amon Duul, another group I hear so much about but know nothing of. Someday Rob. So much music to explore
I’m too tired to jump out of my seat. But I enjoyed the albums that you showed. As always great variety! On the golf course, watch out for those salt water crocs. I watched a compilation of reptiles on different golf courses. Looks like it can get pretty crazy! ua-cam.com/video/W12yl2jFINM/v-deo.html
Luckily PR has no crocs and very little in the way of snakes. Just lots and lots of iguana. Lots of chickens also It was a good day of golf, I did not suck Cheers Michael
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 it was Costa Rica that I was thinking about for the Salt Water Crocs, sorry. Ha ha. Glad everything is nice and safe there!

I bought that same version of Electric Byrd. Its really great. The music is somewhere in between In A Silent Way and Bitches Brew. ♥️ Congrats on winning rhat littery. You jave been getting some wonderful records. Take care.
Hey Steve...really really loving Sumos thanks to you. I absolutely love jangle pop. Hence why I love XTC and early R.E.M. Great video! Glad we're in contact!
I am a big fan of jangle pop also. I had recently done a pod cast discussing this genre. There is so much new music that falls into this category Sorry Kat did not show. He use to show for every video, now not so much, he is getting old sadly.
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 Oh cool, I have to back to your channel and search for that. It's hard to witness your cats getting older. I've been there many times. You enjoy every moment you have with them.

Lol on Jeans. I wear them when I fly and I went right on my hunt for the store as it was open Saturday. It was sweaty. Electric Byrd was quite good. It wasn’t smooth fusion, had a lot of funk to it. Fun album Mark
Another very enjoyable video Steve 😊 I’ll avoid any political questions about Puerto Rico (and DC) statehoods but I am fascinated about the surprising longivity and even early survival of U2. Considering what a toxic time they grew up in Ireland due to the poverty in particular of pre-EEC (EU) Eire and the troubles in Northern Ireland, the religious aspect of the band as well as culturary not blowing up and tearing them apart gives you some hope for the future (The Edge, David Evans, and Adam Clayton both being Protestant). So many bands I have never heard of there. Some fascinating backstories. That Wolfgang cover looked like a colab between Violent Femmes and Yothu Yindy! 😄
I use to have some Yothu Yindy on CD. I really liked that band. The statehood is an interesting question and the island is split down the middle of people wanting to be independent and those that want to be part of the US. I see both sides of the argument. They have lots of marches and protests on both sides of this. U2 continue to make some great music. I saw them in concert around 2010 and really had a wonderful time. Cheers Morten
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 I bought my last Yothu Yindy album in Sydney, 2000. As it turned out it was the last album. The singer having since passed away. Lately I feel like people hate on them for no reason, treating tham like some people treat Coldplay.
Quite a few bands I have not heard of before, but the needle drops intrigued me. I always spend money after watching one of Sam’s videos. Sumos sounds great. Sunshine jangle pop, how could that ever be wrong. I am definitely digging a little more into Xavion. I enjoyed the needle drop and the back story really peaks my interest. Another great video. Not a lot of info on the Sumos Mike but the music definitely was quite catchy. I was told Wolfgang Press really lightened up in the later albums, the sun finally shined through their darkness lol. Cheers Mike
Did Wolfgang lighten up on those records Brian? I did find them quite interesting but a smile never hurts haha. Sumos was very fun and enjoyable. Just got done with a morning swim, should probably start working now. Cheers Brian
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 Yes, they did lighten up and expanded their sound. Might be worth checking out. Hey, another swimmer. I tend to do lunchtime swims. The 6:45 or 7:00 AM times slots are a killer, bit I guess you are always up by 3:00 AM anyway 🏊🏻
Uh oh, you're going down the krautrock rabbit hole Steve. Gotta get a copy of Electric Byrd at some point, never heard that one. Weird to see a yellow Blue Note label. Not familiar with Xavion, yes can hear the Prince/Time influence in the funk there. Interesting how you had that black rock thing going on in the 80's, the rap groups like Run DMC were adding electric guitar to their music as well, maybe a reaction to how segregated the radio formats were at that time. Tokyo Sex Destruction is a pretty great name, sounds like the title of some schlocky b grade movie. Enjoy PR, cheers
Doug, I plan to stay solid and not slip into that rabbit hole of Krautrock. It can be interesting but I won’t play it that often. Popol Vuh did have a nice feel to it. I had no idea about Xavion but they did pull out the guitars and I bet it was to get noticed. They also seemed to oil up their bodies a lot lol. Cheers Doug
Cool bunch of records Steve. I’m not in a hurry to get the third man blue notes. There’s too many getting reissued. Bargain bin later on. Good bill frisell lp. Not my favourite but great sounding. Yip I think there’s still a lot of his cds not on vinyl yet so look forward to those getting reissued at some point. Keep the golf up the sun is getting lower.
I had a pretty good game of golf and only lost 5 balls in 18 holes. Last time I lost 15! No Third Man Blue Note? Too many reissues? What is happening George? The jazz is pouring out. I just wait for Amazon to clearance it now. Cheers George
True Story Time: My dad fancied himself something of a musician. My dad also fancied alcohol to excess. In the depths of his alcoholism, he recorded an album on audio cassette with our German Shepard, Wolfgang. My dad was a fan of Mozart and he loved the movie Amadeus and would quote it often. The album he made had renditions of the folk songs "Old Blue" and "La Cucaracha," and the more modern number "Walk of Life" by Dire Straits. Those are three that I remember. My dad would sing a part, hold a note, and Wolfgang would start howling. My dad really thought he had something here. Seriously, he thought he could get a recording contract. I thought he was crazy and told him so. He told me I didn't know what I was talking about. Years later he told me he played the cassette for my sober-minded grandparents and was met with silence. My dad next turned to reworking the song "Old Blue" and said he was going to send it to the band The Byrds. They had recorded a version of the song back in '69. He showed me his reworking of the song. The notes were written in blue marker on my writing paper from kindergarten. It's an image that's burned into my mind as one of the most pathetic things I have ever seen. Although nothing came of my daddy's musical efforts, he did succeed at becoming sober and was sober for fifteen years at the time of his death. The album my father recorded with Wolfgang has been lost. That's probably for the best. Hope you had a good trip. Stay groovy.
Another fascinating story that turned out great with your dad getting sober. That is good as that must have been difficult. I had such a quiet and uneventful childhood When we got in trouble most would call that a regular day lol. My dad was an incredible singer. When we would be on vacation and go to another church he would start to sing and the whole congregation would turn to stare at us. He had a lot of power and blew everyone else out. We would beg him to sing softer. That didn’t work. He was an amazing singer
Hey Steve, I don't think the Wolfgang Press should be judged based on that Burden of Mules album. It is so different than their later albums. Standing Up Straight, Bird Wood Cage, Queer, and Funky Little Demons (the only one I have left to get on vinyl) are all brilliant. Take care!
Mike good info. I had heard that from others and I would buy more of their music. I was totally unfamiliar with them but they had been sitting in the store for awhile so what the heck! Cheers Mike
Awesome to see the Tokyo Sex Destruction LP. I have the cd. The singer RJ Sinclair is also in the bands It’s Not Not and Lost Tapes. Lost Tapes is currently active and It’s Not Not have been doing reunion gigs lately.
Lol Jeff, no doubt you have a lot of stuff that does not show up. I’m way to lazy to try to enter the Sumos, someday someone else will do that for me ! Cheers Jeff
Boy I picked up more naked men albums my wife is beginning to wonder. Definitely some well oiled guys that should have been given more attention lol. Man boobies. Cheers Chance
I have always had a love for garage rock bands, I love the energy that they have. Luckily this was not Covid but just a nasty version of some flu. Take care John
Interesting stuff, sir - very interested in checking out several of the artists you featured this week. Tell me, do you pronounce Sonny's last name as "Bon-o"? LOL! I'll pass on the book, thanks. Enjoy the islands, we'll see you next week! :-)
You are so right. That’s what happens when you open mouth with no thought lol. Considering I’m a fan you would think I could get that right lol. Just got done with an early morning swim but I suppose I will have to do some work, drats! Cheers TC
I'm pretty sure I have Wofgang Press on CD and I'd be surprised it I didn't have them on Lp. Alas, those records are in L.A. While I appreciate Bono's charity work and I like any number of U2 songs, he's such a self-important smug-head, It would be very hard to read a book penned by him. He looks very serious on the cover, don't he?
Are you ever going to get those albums from LA or is it just not feasible? Will this be a future episode of Storeage Locked Wars where someone buys you locker and are amazing at what they found including a Wolfgang Press album? Bono, His book was more serious. I take it you have me him or dealt with him on the Carson show. Of course I said Bono wrong the whole time but he doesn’t seem to have been bothered by it as he has not commented yet
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 Eventually, I'll bring them up here. I think my wife is still wondering whether she really wants to live in Canada. (I also need a place to put them. I have just over 10,000 here now, and I'm running out of space quickly. Never met Bono. I did see U2 at the Colleseum on the Pop tour. Luckily, they didn't play that album exclusively. d
Love that Sumos sound and feel, happy music! Gonna look into that. The Byrd album is a no brainer for me. Third Man came out of the gate a little inconsistent when it comes to sound quality. I’ve 4 or 5 from them and the sound quality varies from great as on the Roy Brooks record to absolutely terrible on the Alice Coltrane record. They seem to be improving lately. Probably after hearing all the negative reviews.
I had not heard that about the other jazz albums from TMR Steve. Jack White always prided himself and the sound quality. Maybe these records sound bad also. N sounded good to my old ears lol. Cheers Steve
Man I need to check out that Tokyo Sex Destruction! They look great! And if it’s like you described I’m all over it! It does kinda sound like MC5! Very eclectic shares here Steve! Sorry I’ve been such a stranger The shit has been hitting the fan in my world but I’ll hopefully be ok when I get to the other side ✨✌️👽✨
Brian, I have been swamped lately but sorry to hear about crap getting in the way of enjoyment. I hope it all works out quickly my friend. Yes you would like Tokyo Sex Destruction and it is affordable. Great album. Keep the chin up and stay cosmic ( I think that’s a good thing…right?)
I just gotta get it out of the way early Mike...I hate U2 with every fibre of my being. Anyway no I've got that out of my system, I'd like to say Sumos sounds cool. I like Donald Bryd, but I'm still getting my head around some fusion. Miles imho does it the best from what I have so far heard. Popol Vuh is fantastic. He also sound tracked a few Werner Herzog films too. I'm a sucker for a Mike drone too. Xavion's front cover looks like a classic metal album. Tokyo Sex Explosion, I'm not sure about their skivvies, but they sound rockin'. A lotta MC5 in there like you said. Maybe I'm a depresso type because I like the sound of the first Wolfgang. Cheers...Mike
Mike, I started with happy jangle and finished with some gloomy dark music. I like to play with peoples emotion musically. Mike Drone is the best even if it is Byzantine drone. So I am getting to take a guess you have no U2 in your collection. Thank god they are not Australian , that might have put pressure on you. I hope your enjoying your week Mike
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 Surprisingly no U2 in my collection Mike. Strange I know. Mike the emotion manipulator. I'll never view your vid's the same again now that I know that. Cheers...Mike

I know you would know that group Dave. As soon as I heard they were from Barcelona I knew you would be in the know. Great group Cheers Dave
I got a stack I need to add to Discogs. They don't make it easy. I've been needing to add some Bill Frisell... Cheers
Lol Jeff, no doubt you have a lot of stuff that does not show up. I’m way to lazy to try to enter the Sumos, someday someone else will do that for me ! Cheers Jeff
MegaJeff rocks! That album has a lot of oiled man chest though. I remember when this channel prided itself on proper implied or even direct nudity.
Boy I picked up more naked men albums my wife is beginning to wonder. Definitely some well oiled guys that should have been given more attention lol. Man boobies. Cheers Chance
steve = those garagr rock bands are noisy - supporting the channel- sorry to hear about covid
I have always had a love for garage rock bands, I love the energy that they have. Luckily this was not Covid but just a nasty version of some flu. Take care John
I love Spanish. Can you seek out a Puerto Rican copy of a KISS album.
Well done it Martin, too late. The store did have a lot of great records from Spain from different groups. I spent too much money there. Cheers Martin

Cheers Steve
i,ve been into POPUL VUH for decades! if i may recommend what is my faveorite " einsjager & siebenjager " cheers.
Bruce I appreciate the recommendation as I have no idea where to go next. Now to see if they are affordable. Thanks Bruce
I've heard of the Sumos but I don't think I've heard any of their music. That jangly pop isn't my cup of tea tbh. Donald Byrd does sound interesting. Love that sample. Never heard of Popol Vuh. Sounded nice but not different from a lot of other stuff. Bill Frissell sounds interesting. One to check out. Xavion is really burning hot! Tokyo Sex Destruction is another to check out. I think I'll pass on The Wolfgang Press though! 😃
Sumos and Wolfgang press were on opposite ends of the spectrum and you passed on both Andy lol. Definitely a lot of different types of music this week. The Byrd was quite good and worth looking into my friend. Cheers Andy
Hello
Shall try this jangle pop album.
I maybe have 30 radiostation to choose by, how many can you choose by?
Sweden just beat USA in woman fotboll but thats maybe not your bag?
Have a fun time in Puerto Rico..
I did watch the women’s futbul but your right , I’m no expert. I don’t listen to radio Hasse. Too many commercials that drive me nuts. I will listen to Spanish stations to help with my Spanish but this is about it. Cheers Hasse
"No polka"??? Well, that does it, I'm not even watching this one. Hey...how about POLKA VUH? With Byzantine scales!
Lol I love that Polka Vuh, well done That is hilarious. It was fun to hear their music. No doubt you have their albums I guess I need to look into Amad Duul also. Cheers Michael
