As a Dutch guy myself, I love that this video exists. I didnt know about some of the differences, learned a lot. Im not reformed myself but my entire family is, the Dutch Reformed tradition over here is absolutely huge and used to be basically the only form of Christianity

That's awesome! I love the Dutch Reformed, we're basically theologically identical. God bless!

May the church grow and resist the liberalization seen elsewhere in European protestantism.

As a Catholic Dutch guy, I disagree. The Catholic tradition has been great in times of persecution by the reformed, making us 4th class citizens for almost 3 centuries. But this time made the Catholic Church very strong, especially around Amsterdam and the south of the country.

I was going to go Presbyterian (OPC), and I even started calling myself Presbyterian. But then I found out we had a nice little Dutch Reformed (CRC, which is really big here in Michigan) church about 10 minutes away. We're strict about certain things (we will not have female elders/deacons, etc.) but not super strict about other things (we have a Nativity scene, we obviously use instruments, sing non-inspired hymns, etc.) My pastor is also ecumenical to a very balanced and healthy extent. He has no problem doing stuff with the Diocese (the cathedral for our area is one block away), but he also has no problem calling out Catholic errors (in a loving manner). I absolutely adore the Presbyterians, and think both traditions are beautiful. The warrior Scots and the fighting Dutch, together forever!

10:50 I go to a non-denominational church, and if I'm not mistaken, they are reluctant to do it, but they will baptize infants. Love your videos, and it is because of them I am inspired to be appart of your reconquista plan, and dive into researching Christian history.

I'm Dutch Reformed (and Dutch Canadian), and I always knew that Presbyterian churches taught similar theology as we're both Calvinist. I didn't realize that the beliefs written in the different documents used by each were effectively identical.
I've always been surprised by stories of Dutch Reformed Christians gatekeeping/excluding others, even within my own Church community as I've never witnessed it myself personally. Our church is consistent about teaching that, regardless of denomination, salvation is for everyone who believes Jesus sacrificed himself and was resurrected, and who repents, accepting the presence of God within them.

I'm Dutch and grew up Dutch reformed. My Dutch reformed high school used to teach that all Catholics violate the first commandment by praying to saints and the virgin Mary and therefore they can't go to heaven. My religious studies teacher also referred to the mainstream protestant church as terminally ill, for having too many internal differences in worship, like one church having a female preacher and another having children partaking in the holy supper, and so on. Fun times.

I went to a Dutch Reformed Church here in Upstate NY when I was younger, so I'm glad you made this video as it helped me learn exactly what that meant. I also personally know plenty of people who were baptized as babies or have their babies baptized. I may have been myself, but I am not entirely sure on that.

Thanks for your work. I’d like to see some more content around the idea of what a stronger church can do for society as a whole.

1:54. Does anyone use the 1559 French Confession? It contains 40 articles and has over 300 Scriptural citations. There are two versions--a longer and shorter text. The longer text was confirmed and adopted as the official text and doctrinal standard of this church at the 7th national synod in La Rochelle, France in 1571. It is also called the Gallic or Gallican Confession. The only church/denomination that I know of which affirms and accepts it is the French Protestant (Huguenot) Church in Charleston, SC. This church closed (except for an annual French language service) in 1950. Descendants and converts revived the congregation in around 1980. They worship in an 1844 Gothic church on a site which has been used for Huguenot worship since the 1600s. They use a liturgy which is based on French Calvinist liturgical texts which is unique to this congregation. I wish they would establish other congregations in different places and revitalize this beautiful tradition! Maybe you'll do a video on them one day.

One major distinction between baptist and non-denominational churches: baptists are largely cessationist, while many non-denominational churches are somewhat pentecostal.

I go to BJU and I have yet to meet a Methodist. They are a rare breed, or so it seems. I've met some Pentecostals, boat loads of every type of Baptist, and plenty of of Presbyterians, but no Methies.

Interesting enough the Dutch Reformed Church(More specifically the NG Kerk/Church )were the state Church of the Apartheid government in South Africa .Not saying the Dutch reformed Church is racist(I am Dutch Reformed myself who lives in South Africa )Just an interesting fact .God Bless ✝️

I was born in South Africa and am thus Dutch Reformed. However, I now live in Scotland, which is Presbyterian, and I attend the Church of Scotland Presbyterian Church. So I would say I am both.

"apartheid" as a concept wasnt racist, segregation isnt racist, it is a fact that seperate peoples cant co exist, you wouldnt pray with muslims would you? you would be displeased if you had a muslim neighbor wouldnt you?
you wouldnt let your christian daughter marry a muslim boy would you?
apartheid as a concept failed, tried making a state for the blacks but still used them for cheap labor, it brewed resentment among the africans, communists easily grabbed this angst and overthrew this unsteady balance.
im not saying there wasnt racism/hatred among the whites in SA.
the current SA government is vastly more hateful and oppressive than the Apartheid government ever was, Mandela was a disgusting human being who oversaw the murder of thousands.

I had no idea that Dutch Reformed even existed before I started watching your channel; we just don't really have much DR in America.
Just curious, why did you pick Psalm 42 for this video? That's the psalm about holding fast when people taunt you for your faith but I'm not sure how it applies here.
