Sadly, I remember the days when you had to opt in to receive ads, now, we struggle to find all the nicks and crannies where they funnel them in on you by default.
So after we buy the OS, Microsoft is allowed to use it to track everything we do and advertise the hell out us...just like Google is doing with our phones... Screw this... ☹️
Microsoft is making Windows worse with every update and it will get worse when Windows 12 comes out. Another awesome video Britec and thanks for sharing it.
Switch, (or try out) Linux Mint. The desktop will be simple with it's own style of start button. If you only use a Browser, check mail and watch UA-cams; then you have nothing to loose, and you will be well protected! Not to mention all those windoz updates! AND, it's Free for life. And NO Ads! People will tell you it's hard to learn. NO TRUE! It's no different then using windoz. There's NO learning curve. If you use microshaft word, then Libre comes free with Linux.

@MichaelDustter - I bought the full Microsoft Office 2010 suite years ago and could really get some actual work done... now I can't get it to install on Win 11 so I switch to LibreOffice, which is nowhere near as good but I don't have to keep giving a greedy corporation money,
I'm getting it every time I'm checking my email, and today they sent me an email telling me to complete my subscription. I never use it and I don't like the idea of having my data in some 'cloud' I have no control over.
I liked their 2010 edition Word, and I still have the install disc for it. I recently ordered an external dvd drive because my laptop and desktop computers don't have optical available, because reasons. The way Office 365 is these days? Nah, uninstall, and replace with something I don't have to pay more money for. lol
Love watching these tweaks and most definitely i keep them for future reference even if I don’t use them immediately at some point i will most certainly use it … Brian you make an excellent reference point for Windows..👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
As usual and awesome video from you. I think I've found all Windows 10 ads and other spy stuff from Microsoft which are available to be switched off within Window 10's various option settings. However it would still be nice with a video from you with more indepth stuff, in case I missed something. They have started to add the Windows Spotlight and stuff into Windows 10 as well. Clearly those things are important for Windows to infect veryone with, even if they said Windows 10 will only get security updates long ago. It seems to be on a machine to machine roll out. Both my Windows 10 PC's have the same Windows updates (same win version number), still on one it shows spotlight in the background options, on the the other it is still not rolled out and that option is not visble in the scroll down menu in background.
The one thing I couldn't turn off is the advertising ID. Switched to Linux mint personally & love its ease of use and looks. Thank you britec for making a nice guide to turning off most of this poopie ad windows stuff!
Thanks Brian for the video. It's sad to see how much you have to do to get a system to be what it was supposed to be. Since Windows 8 it has just gone one way. More bloat and adverticements 😞
Enjoy all your ad-free time after performing these steps because knowing Microsoft one of the monthly updates or the next feature update will undo all of these settings.
The idea of ad-support is supposed to offset the full price of software and/or allow 'free' versions. Ad-support in apps makes sense, because it's either free or practically free. But we pay the full price of Windows on every new machine that has it. This is the same as double taxation (they probably did learn it from government). What if all high cost software starts coming with ads in every menu, on every screen? Will we pay full price then too? I'm afraid that all these turn-them-off option buttons will either be eliminated/locked in this or future rollouts of security updates, or Windows will reset them in the registry at each startup. It's obvious Microsoft intends to gradually keep the average user from modifying the registry for "security reasons", by either keeping Windows UI mod software from working or not permitting certain registry changes down the line. Softly, softly, catchee monkey! If I want! a locked-down OS, I'll get an Apple! PS - In the meantime, maybe a .reg file that contains all the changes you just showed for Windows. Better yet, a startup folder run file that does it. 🤗 Can't... let... them... win... .
Would be nice to get rid of ads in the 'new Outlook' that MS is trying to force on us as replacement for Windows mail. MS wants us to get Office 356 (which is definitely not free) to get rid of those ads, which should not be present in an e-mail program to begin with.
Ok Brian this is a really helpful tutorial mate but on in my Setting/Personalisation I have more settings within that I do not know what to do with for example there is a setting that says "Show related notifications occasionally in Start". Now I suspect that you are showing an install that is not coupled with a Microsoft account and my current install is - so what do I do about that? The other thing is I do not have Copilot in my taskbar options setting and I am running the latest version of Windows 11Pro? Otherwise mate a really good tutorial easy to follow well at snails pace for me LOL!!. The thing that I find concerning is the absolute and obscene amount of data they collect and it really is against one's right to privacy eh? Oh thanks for the reminder about Revo I had totally forgotten about it after using it back n the day.
The Operating System doesn't work half the time, now lets make it WORSE by advertisements, they can also get rid of Microsoft Edge. Full of Spyware and Snooping. Edge is NOT required to run Windows.
The best way to manage adds in your life is disable every add you possibly can but on all the ones that do make there way into your Head either by a billboard or a jingle on the Radio and actually manage to convince you that is something you need, always by an alternative to one that was advertised by a different Brand ect. Don't reward them, ever 💪

Good stuff, but you were jumping around a lot. I would've preferred staying in one area on Windows settings and changing all the things there before going to another area (let alone to Widgets, File Explorer or Edge) rather than coming back to make another change in that area.
I can't stop laughing while watching I can't believe the level of effort that I need to block ads on my own computer can't wait for the all in one tool that will do this for me in one click,
Also is it so bad and has it got consequences to uninstall edge» I don't use it, I use chrome and since I have both which I don't want, I think windows is confused on which on to choose as whe ni click links in emails in Outlook, suddenly they just won't open evem though Chrome is set as my default browser.....is it an update is it a general matter! Thanks
How do we stop Microsoft 365 ads in our email? Microsoft is harassing me to sign up for Microsoft 365 which I have no use for. If I do use it, it's once in a blue moon.
We already have Office 365 licensed corporate version... We still get their ads, and of course some idiot around here will click on it and cause even more trouble.
It'll drain it quicker with the ads. What kind of clowns at Microsoft thought this was a good idea. know when I installed it Linux mint on my laptop, I thought my fan was broken. It's so quiet
Not sure if you've done it, apologies if you have (and point me in the right direction, please), but have you found any way to stop MS continually trying to switch Mail to Outlook? Even if you delete it, it will still download it again! Also, I have Outlook (full, licenced version), so why does it keep trying to add this new one, as well?
This has nothing to do with this video but I have a question. Looking at a motherboard by Asus that has a 4 pin & 8 pin CPU connection. I am not seeing any power supplies that have a 4 pin connector. Do you split a 8pin? or do you not use the 4 pin? Thanks for all your videos
spoiler alert: microsoft will undo everything you do here next time you use windows update. just switch to LINUX if you want any respect from your hardware
@@JoTechOfficial Blame the developers of the game and press them to support Linux better. The more of their users that demand it, the more likely they'll have to comply or lose users. Or, you know, don't support those games.

The Windows OS is no place for ads.
I agree

Can i get an adblocker to block windows ads.👍
I turn off most of these already but you pointed out two I was missing. Thank you. Be well.
You're welcome

This is going to be part of a good series of Britec Vids to keep. I'm sure we'll need this sort of stuff for Windows "AI/next". Job for life Brian!

Windows is the worst ad.

Yes, there are, it's called "Linux".
How do you disable Windows Search Ads shown at 6:19 for Windows 10? The setting shown is not on my PC.
When i tried to run the registry script, i got "You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor".

Battery drain is not even the worst, monitor your network, it's insane how much their ads and data collection add on a network load.
