They need to make a film about this denny character that went around marrying women, giving them 5 carat diamond rings and ditching them 5 months later
My thoughts as well.
The guy had more money than brains. who gets married to someone after you've known them only a couple weeks and what a surprise the marriage only last a couple months.

I’d be so pissed if a jeweler took the marking off of the band!
Yah, that happened to me. I bought a $3000 David Yurman ring less than a year ago and had it sized. I got it back and the signature along with the gold karat was completely taken off.
@@JustinLHopkins I hope you kept the original paper work.
I had this with a antique ring I have, gold karat was taken off...
@@JustinLHopkins this happens when they heat the material, so if you dont resize it at an authorized dealer of the brand, they lagally cant put the marks/brand back on
Well you’d be pissed at yourself then because the jeweler can’t keep a marking on the band if that’s where it’s being sized.
She knew already. Just wanted others to know too....
Right?
No she was completely disappointed
I think she hoped it was worth more… if the marking was still on the band, maybe it would be
I love all these jewelry ignorant (not) people that act all surprised.
Like mother like daughter.
You ring is worth $140,000.
Lady: -_-
Clearly talking to a baller here.
Did you see that ginormous gold pendant she was wearing?
I bet this lady’s jewelry box is awesome.
I’m sorry, she did not inherit her mother’s class.
This lady would make Slick Rick flinch.
its because she already assumed it would be worth 120k due to inflation.. she knew it was 20k in 1970.. so nothing special.

“You’re mother was smart, she kept the paperwork “. I’m thinking her mother was a whole lot smarter than that. Meets a guy and 2 weeks later gets a 5 carat diamond and platinum ring, only stays married to the idiot/serial marriage guy for a few months and walks away with a $100K ring.
Mother sounded like a cunning gold digger tbh. And the woman already knew it's value (lack of surprise) and was on the show just to show it off.
Notice how relaxed they are that the transfer of wealth in even a brief marriage is from man to woman - and I bet they'd describe themselves as feminists. It's the same thinking that makes the shift back and forth between 'I am woman, hear me roar' and 'women need to be protected' so easy and seamless. Feminism might as well have been designed for perpetuating the stereotype that women's thinking is unprincipled egotism.
Lucky Lady 💍
@@suesally2103 : That mother was as sly as a fox……..knew exactly what she was doing.
Sure she did but if she wanted the money she would have sold the ring and had spent it. So we don’t know the circumstances and I don’t think it’s all that fair to make assumptions like that. It sounds like her mother passed away and kept the ring the whole time so I’d wonder if it also had sentimental value to her.
Even with paperwork, removal of the provenance (Van Cleef and Arpels) on the shank devalued the ring. The jeweler who sized it, butchered it.😮
Totally agree
Yup.
Not that huge of a deal. Most of the value is in the stone.
It happens when reheating, if its not resized by the same jeweller they can't legally put the same brand on so take it to the same jeweller you bought it from.
Except that she has the original paperwork on the ring, so it retains it's value.
THAT ROCK for a couple months marriage?!?!!??
sheesh!, the veritable heart of the ocean
Some people have so much money they couldn’t spend it if they tried
@17 DAP: Yes. EVERYTHING is relative.
$20,000 was a LOT of money in 1970.

What a couple of moralless people, no surprise they are from California.
My favourite diamond style (Emerald Cut). Gorgeous!
Yes so classy
I am looking for a ring like this for me and badly needed to know what the cut styles name was - so I went back to this video and looked up comments. I remembered the breathtaking cit. Thanks a lot!
Beautiful my favorite cuts on 💎 are emerald and love the cushion cut as well. Emerald for party rings and cushion for engagement . Carats 20 :)
This is not an emerald cut. Smarten up.
What cut is it then?.
My sister has a ring almost identical. She worked as a administrator at a retirement home for the rich in Los Angeles, California. She found the ring close to her office. She kept the ring in a safe for 6 months as required by law. No one ever claimed the ring so my sister got to keep it. My sister always thought it was a cubic zirconia until two years later she had it appraised. It turned out to be a near flawless 4 carat total diamond ring. The appraisal was $40,000. It’s been 20 years so I’m sure the ring is far more valuable.
That's a great reason not to own jewelry that's extremely valuable.
Ya'll are hateful. That ring is a beauty, and it doesn't mean the daughter is a gold digger just because her Mom was married for 5 minutes. But girl, get that ring cleaned.
Lol.....she was a golddigger. But, good 4 her. That diamond is flawless. Not sure shes deserves it if she hasnt cleaned or insured it, tho....she seems a bit simple minded to not have.
Ashleigh Sanders amen
Gold digger period
*Put it in a coffee-cup w/hot water and 'OxyClean' crystals, and it WILL 'Sparkle' like 'fresh from the box'*
*The bonus being is it's cheap, cannot damage anything, and the ring is never out of your control*
*YOU CAN'T TRUST a lot of jewelers, because many will 'swap-out' for a stone that 'looks the same' until a loupe is used
and then find the diamond has far more imperfections than the original stone , and you can't prove a switch took place*
Should have been called a toe ring because her feet were in the air more than her hands. She was a diamond digger!
I love the center stone. It's an absolutely beautiful ring! Yikes only married for 5 months! I don't blame her for not taking it off! I wouldn't have taken it off either! Congrats!!
what a stunning ring! i love emerald cut diamonds. and i love Van Cleef & Arpels. her mother was smart to keep the ring.
Well what else was she going to do with it ? She had every right to keep the ring.

Looks to me that in 1971 her mom was Denny's 5/6th wife. I get the feeling Denny loves Wedding Cake. I would like to know how many wives he had after.
Hello Dave how are you doing. I hope you are safe and in good health. Thank you.
Uh is Denny still kicking? Where can I find him?

Note to self: Clean ring before having it appraised (and insured).
A serious jeweler would never shave off a VCA inscription
20,000 in 1973 is about 120,000 today, so it really has not gone up in price its just devalued currency
Yes, sounds about right. Diamonds, outside of rare colors or extremely large high quality stones are not investments. The best you can hope for is to break even in the long run.
@@gregschaust4298 It fits in the palm of your hand .. a small satchel could carry a fortune .. easy to transport, store and hide..... they never decrease in value!!
If Debeers ever unleashed all of the diamonds that they have, the price of diamonds would go down almost to the cost of a cubic zirconium. That’s why they are holding back on sending them to market.
"Okay, yeah... that's nice." Looks like the apple didn't fall too far from the tree.
🤣
Michael Hughes 😂🤣🤣🤣
It's a flawless 5 carat square cut diamond ring from Van Cleef & Arpels and you expect her to be surprised at the appraisal estimate? Ok.
🤣😂😆
@Michael Hughes: What is THAT supposed to mean ? “The Apple didn’t fall far from the tree”.
A great example of a lovely vintage diamond ring!
I would wear that all the time. Beautiful.
The 70s had an art deco revival. That style is a popular art deco shape.
Oh why didn’t someone put it on so I could see what it looks like being worn?!
Yes. My thought exactly. You really can’t tell what it looks like on the hand. Once on the finger -- it’s not as big as many of these commenters assume.
Emerald cut, my favorite... 💕💕💕
Wow she didn’t even flinch LMAO 😂 clearly has much more than that
Exquisite; however, the ring/diamond is in desperate need of restoration, cleaning and polishing.
It's clean, it's pristine, & ready to be seen.
💎🏆💖
Yeah very damaged surface. Clearly it’s been tumbling with other diamonds in a box.
""""""""""desperate""""""""""
I would venture to say that the ring has dust on it. No way should it be altered in any way.
I expected a bigger reaction when the appraiser told her the current value 😬
Please....that heiffer has had that diamond appraised every 2 years for the last 40....100%!!!!!!
@@JWebb-jp2vh that’s rude. No need for name calling.
Flatliner like her mom.💍
Adjusted for inflation, the item has not increased much. According to the US inflation calculator, $20k in 1973 is worth about $117,000 today.
20K in 70s can buy a nice house, it'll be $1M now
I was surprised by her comment. It sounded like she didn’t have insurance on the ring. Even if it’s stored in a safe deposit box you’d still want to have it insured.
Definitely!!!
Insuring jewelry is very expensive. I've let mine lapse because eventually I would've paid the same for insurance as I did for the jewelry. Approximately ten years or so depending on the piece.
most people don't insure their jewelry
I have a friend who insured her jewelry for a couple of years but then then the cost was so ridiculous -- she found great places to hide it. It’s been about over 40 years now of clever ways to hide a significant amount of expensive jewelry. Just make sure that you tell someone you trust where it is in case you drop dead otherwise it could end up in the garbage or somewhere where no one would think to look. Just saying.
If it's not insured, you don't dare wear it, so you can't even enjoy the beauty.
Lady marries Lee Van Cleef and all he leaves her is a diamond?
(Just kidding)....:)
OMG -- so weird. I watched a movie last night with Lee Van Cleef and Clint Eastwood.”The Good, The Bad and The Ugly”. I was wondering how many other movies he starred in as I believed this was his “one hit wonder” I just read your comment here in Nov of 2021.
Hey Denny, I’m available. Size 7
"Oh, that's nice" SERIOUSLY?????????????????? You could buy a house. Nice to wear a house on your finger.
It is all relative honestly. One persons expensive is another persons average. I have a $20k ring. That is many peoples yearly salary. I worked hard to get it, as I am not filthy rich. But to me it is not ridiculous, but to others I am sure that it is. Like I said, it is all relative.

She didn’t flinch because she’s already loaded. That was a small number.

An Emerald cut is rare and unique! Much like the one who wears it! God Bless!
It’s not really that rare -- it’s that the round “brilliant” cut is more desired by most women.
Not as many women have emerald cuts because they don’t sparkle as much, but my diamond is an emeral cut. I love the shape. I think it is an elegant stone.
That ring is so dirty, I thought it was full of inclusions.
I like the dangling lone hair, shining in the daylight.
Emerald cuts are not as brilliant as others, which is why they need to be a bigger stone to be nice.
I had a Denny and he got my ring from a comic book.
The gift is in the giving?
The appraiser tells her the ring is worth $120 thousand dollars and there's absolutely no reaction😴it's as if she was simply told the sun is out today😕

She didn’t have insurance on it already? I mean... really???
She should have took a picture of the mom with her. She must have been a looker to get such a huge 💍
My mother had this exact ring, but less carats. It’s mine now. So happy to see it here.
This style ring/setting would look lovely with a smaller stone. The ring in this video is "Hollywood" big--quite flashy and bold--and probably would only appeal to a limited clientele.
@@kenc2257 It's only 5 carats, which is a nice size but not enormous.
@Ken: It’s not really that “big”. Elizabeth Taylor’s ring is BIG. That 5 carat ring is the perfect size for many women.
Must’ve been Denny’s 6th wife
A Carat a month for Denny's happiness ? That sounds like a bargain!
A 5 carat, VVS1 or 2, I colour, and at least a very good cut, V&A ring; and this one estimates $ 120k for it?! Wtf?!
The diamond alone is worth at least four times more than that!
No. It’s definitely not worth more than $ 140,000.
I'd keep it and wear it and feel reeealll good!
I color VCA diamond? That’s strange
I wondered that. Would they even sell an I coloured stone? Maybe bigger being better was a thing but I do find that unusual.
Not really. Diamonds of this size are generally sold loose and then mounted. The husband evidently chose carat weight and clarity over color.
I had a friend who was a top jeweler. He literally wrote the book about choosing stones. He preferred diamonds with some color in them because the very clear stones look a lot like Cubic Zirconia.
John Marlowe this is Van Cleef and Arpels, a whole different league than your average engagement ring. They typically use only D,E,F color diamonds. They have some of the highest standards of any Jewelry House in the world when it comes to Diamonds or stones of any kind
Suzanne Dulin I’m sure your friend was a wonderful jeweler but Van Cleef & Arpels are the best of the best of high end jewelery houses in the world. It is unheard of for them to use diamonds that are not colorless. And with all due respect, THEY wrote the book on choosing diamonds
No doubt just the diamond.....the marriage lasted a few minutes! Lol!!!
I've run Deadmines more than 100 times and Van Cleef still hasn't dropped this ring. Blizzard needs to look at adjusting the drop rate.
I appreciate your joke :)
I'm a gemologist and the stone doesn't look flawless to me, possibly because it's dirty but it's hard to say unless you clean the stone and inspect the stone with a loupe.
I don't think she meant as in graded IF but flawless to the eye
@Roman: Agree. I would bet the stone has dust on it.
Such a gorgeous ring ❤️
Oh wow, I have a ring that looks almost identical to this one, however my stone is green 💚
Denny made a bad choice. Twenty grand for a bauble and a woman who clearly loved bling more than she loved him.
Now where are these type of men
On Lonely Street, at Heartbreak Hotel?
She didn't seem to pleased at first, probably wanted half a million....
No. She probably has a high standard of living -- that’s why she didn’t react.
Is the denny chap, the original owner of the U.S. Denny's restaurants? He was certainly loaded! ( uk for wealthy)
Oof. That feeling when you lose thousands of dollars of value on a ring because your fingers are fatter than your mother's.
Wow....beautiful....I think her mom was a bit of a gold digger.....but, good 4 her, she probably deserved it.....and that daughter isnt very smart to have not insured it before.
Hello how are you doing John. I hope you are safe and in good health. Thank you.
Either the diamond is filthy or as I see-full of white inclusions/pinpoints. Whatever the case may be, a diamond of the clarity the appraiser repeatedly emphasizes, would show all the facets distinctly. The entire center section of the gem is peppered with white pinpoints making it look like old weathered glass. I'd say the diamond is Si2-i1. It's also foggy. Additionally, VCA diamond solitaire rings have lengthy stamps below the setting not on the shank e.g. Marked platinum, signed 'VAN CLEEF ET ARPELS', numbered '10249CS'.
I don't think diamonds can be scratched, but the diamond in this ring looks very "dirty". Unimpressive and I wonder about the appraisal. Must be because the daughter had the paperwork.
@@huascar66 I use to be a diamond specialist for a large retailer. Pinpoints are inside the diamond and not on the surface-as you said it's very hard to scratch a diamond without using another diamond. Also, 70's VC&A larger diamonds had serial numbers inscribed in the mounting and without the serial number (daughter claimed she had it sized thus cutting out the SN) the ring would have to sent to GIA for a reliable report. Also, no one in their right mind would have the VC&A name removed not even a jeweler. It's like erasing TIFFANY'S from a piece of jewelry. Additionally, the man wedded frequently for short-term marriages-I'm guessing he was a shyster and her mother exaggerated the story of his wealth to cover her humiliation. Gems are often popped out of a setting and the gold mountings are used for other stones. The whole story seems staged.
Holy moly! So lovely!
Wow, if a man gives you a rock like this, I think he’s a good man! 💍 💎
Hello Andy how are you doing. I hope you are safe and in good health. Thank you.
The diamond must be dirty because it looks terrible to me
R u insane? Van Cleef diamonds are flawless.
John Gay huh? That’s why she’s saying it must be dirty... bc yes, it should looks flawless
Emerald cut is not the sparkliest cut but I love it.
what's up with all the dirt on it?
It needs a good cleaning but beautiful diamond
I wish i was well off enough to say 'Thats nice 🙂' to learning something I own is worth over $100,000
That 20000$ invested in stock market or housing in Bay Area, it would be worth $3-4m.
I wish a man gave me a 5ct Van Cleef & Arpels engagement ring.
You can do it. You need to look and act what you want to attract. It’s just as easy to fall in love with a man who HAS money as it is with a man who DOESN’T have money. You want high standard of living ? You can do it.
GORGEOUS. LOVE THE EMERALD CUT!
$20k in 1970 is about $130k today. So, it's worth about what he paid for it.
Exactly. $20,000 back then was significant. Not so much today.
Plot twist the jeweler swapped them out and this is not the van cleff. Hence why there’s no more signature.
Yeah no. There is no way a jeweler would risk his business reputation and livelihood by switching a piece
😛 oh that's fun
1:06: "She was very sentimental about it. Maybe the diamond. Not so much the marriage. Not the marriage so much." Sounds like a gold digger to me.
Just because you can’t afford it doesn’t mean others can’t. $20,000 is a drop in the ocean for many people.

Couple of gold diggers right there!
Unimpressed by it's apparent refractory index. Not an overly bright sunny day it seems, but full wavelength daylight should have shown better. I would have never invested in such a stone and the appraisal is for television viewers and ratings. Additionally, an approximation of size can be pretty far off, as it can only be hypothesized on measurement, and not weight in a mounted setting. I highly question the validity of this appraisal as well, as it does not address the fact that VC&A provided extensive paperwork with ALL details of the items they sold. There would be no guessing. Even in the 70's their items sold with a full and complete brochure. No girdle laser? Not in this lifetime. Insurance companies are smarter than that.
Wow ! A guy who knows what he is talking about. I’m impressed.
No insurance on it?????????????????? smh

My mom has a very modest wedding ring. My dad gave it to her nearly 60 years ago, and they are still married. I'm so thankful and grateful for the legacy they gave me, my sisters, my children, nieces and nephew. I wouldn't trade ten of those rings for it.
That's good you're happy with it because you wouldn't be able to trade 50 of them for this one.
Wooooow, how morally superior you are! Because people who have expensive rings definitely have less valuable marriages and are less happy! 🙄🙄🙄
Dah -- how about having the ring and the family also ? -- because there are people that have significant money and can buy valuable high end jewelry without giving a 2nd thought about it. --- AND they have a wonderful family. Everything is relative.
Same here. My parents were married 10 days shy of 77 years when Mom passed away in 2022. I have her modest rings. We (my siblings and I, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchild, nieces and nephews as well my parents' own siblings) have been very blessed and are truly grateful.

Wow dream ring!
"Oh, well that's great. That's nice."
Awww...$20,500 in 1973 dollars is $142,824.25 in 2022 dollars. That diamond ring hasn't increased much in value and at the lower estimate of $80,000 has actually DECREASED in value by over $60,000. I love that if you didn't account for inflation, you'd be happy as a clam. (Though this lady didn't buy the ring in 1973, so she doesn't have to worry about the decreased value.)
Not bad for six months of marriage. After six months of marriage my son's ex-wife got $160,000. The reason for her divorcing him was that he was not attentive enough, he is a contractor and works hard.
Isn't it kinda rude to ask how long the marriage lasted and laughed at her mom for keeping the diamond LOL
