Beethoven's 6th Symphony serves as a magnificent allegory for the human experience: a beautiful tapestry woven from the threads of repetition. At times, it progresses languidly, enveloping us in a comforting embrace, only to suddenly erupt into a whirlwind of haste and anticipation, culminating in either glorious triumph or heartrending defeat. We then either bask in the afterglow or mourn our losses, before returning to the ceaseless rhythm of life, ever so slightly altered. This cycle perpetuates itself, with the omnipresent allure of beauty often overlooked by those who remain unattuned to its nuances. And so, the symphony reaches its inevitable conclusion. In that moment, a few souls may pause, commemorating our journey, lamenting our absence, and offering fleeting accolades, before they, too, resume their own inexorable dance with destiny.

I think it’s the best version I’ve ever seen. At least 8 or 9 contrabass just make this soar!

@@judycook4314 Absolutely agree, this is the best performance of the piece. 100%. It's just got all the right things, in all the right places. Great sound quality too.

I first heard this song in Music Appreciation 101 class in about 1987 while in college, then promptly forgot about it. Except I remembered the melody. Now 35 years later I was trying to find the name of the piece and it was driving me crazy! I finally heard it at the end of Soylent Green movie, of all places. What a masterpiece of music!

Eu lembro sim, e a sincronia ficou perfeita!

Ever wonder about the guy far left at 41:01? His hands are empty! Did he forget to bring his instrument? I found a forum with the answer. He's at 35:10 playing a piccolo. At 35:22 you can really hear him. Thereafter, there were perhaps no more piccolo parts to play, so he placed the piccolo in his pocket.

I thought this performance was very impressive. I will view some others for later comparison but I liked the interpretation.. The television production was well done, too. Nearly flawless. I'm not sure how much of the final product was "live" and how much was enhanced in post-production but, regardless, it never distracted from the performance and highlighted the solo performers right on cue. I do have one question, though. Does anyone know what the gentleman just left of center, two rows up from the conductor, in between the flute section and the viola (or cello) section was doing? The poor fellow sat motionless during the entire performance and I can't imagine what he was doing unless he was assisting one of the musicians as a page turner (although I saw no evidence of this. If anyone knows, please reply here. I have never noticed this is any other "live" concert or concert video that I have ever viewed. Thank you.

Interesting observation about that guy- young, dark hair- you can see him at 16:20 with his arms crossed, no instrument in his hands, music stand in front of him. Close up at 41:02. Curious!

Listen to movie, video game, TV show, etc scores, like LOTR. Just like the composers of the 17 and 1800's, they're not ALL ground breaking and absolute instant classics, but many still are. There are still fantastic composers around, you just have to look, but they're all over the place
