Hey Sam! I live in DC and you forgot 2 really cool facts about DC, well one is technically in Maryland. 1. The longest escalator in the Western Hemisphere is at the Wheaton Metro Station in Wheaton, Maryland. This is along the Red Line of the DC Metro. 2. There is only 1, yes 1, monument in Washington DC. That would be the Washington Monument. All the others are memorials.
I did not realize this about the memorials in D.C. And while interesting, the escalator should go in a video about Maryland. But, I will say, I am now interested in a visit to it. I've other places in Maryland I also want to go.
I love that your trying to help with the pronunciation, I try to help as much as I can too. So I just want to point out that dashes between the syllables is a great way to show the difference between the proper way and the wrong way. It can be the diifference between po and pot.
11:23 Rutherford B Hayes was not president in 1929. He left office in 1881 and had been dead for over 35 years at by 1929. Genuinely curious how that mix-up happened in your script.
Way too many White House facts, that should've been a separate video. There is so much more to DC than the White House, its memorials & the government. No mention of GoGo music, Mumbo sauce, its importance in Punk Rock music, etc. A little disappointed.
I love 101 facts about Washington DC and one day I will go and visit the country and all of America keep up the good work and you should do one for each 50 states of America and the capitals
Among the notable musicians of Washington, D.C., was John Philip Sousa. The bridge across the Anacostia River for Pennsylvania Ave is known as the Sousa Memorial Bridge.
#87 (about the 7th inning stretch) got to me. The stadiums depicted at 23:42 aren't in Washington, DC. It's the Truman Sports Complex in Kansas City, home of the baseball KC Royals and American football KC Chiefs. The fact also reminded me of a line from The West Wing: "When the President stands, nobody sits."
If a state like Wyoming can have representation, so can DC! DC is a beautiful city with great culture, and it's a shame they have been dealing with taxation without representation throughout its history. A big thing that led to the country's eventual independence is what we're making our nation's capital deal with. And it's ironic
How could Rutherford B. Hayes have installed a phone in 1929 if he died in 1893 and was President from 1877-1881, I assume that Hebert Hoover was who was meant.
Some of my favorite things about Washington DC after living there for 15 years. Of course the cherry blossoms it's number one. There are lots of free concerts around the mall area and it is a great place for a long stroll with the family. There are museums for every interest and wonderful restaurants to be found everywhere. I like riding in the DC Metro. Keep in mind. On the 4th of July the nighttime Metro are inbound only two Washington DC and after the show they are outbound only. DC traffic has become a nightmare so try to only travel during the off hours. Do not expect taxis to be cheap especially if you are going across the Potomac
Juuuust so you know it gets noticed: You talked about "African Elephants" while showing the picture of an *Asian* Elephant. Happened vice versa in another 101 vid, too. On another note, I share my birthday with good ol' Abe Lincoln. Not important for anyone except me, I know. Stay healthy and safe, everyone!
And now you fools have given us biden. But no more mean tweets right. Maybe WW3 but at least all you fools will still have POTUS Trump in your brain when it is fried by a nuke!
When all is settled down you should visit. Its quite beautiful especially when the Cherry Blossoms are in bloom. We had a private tour of the Capitol building, which is so cool but you need to write ahead to your legislative rep. to get an appt.
Hail to the chief We have chosen for the nation Hail to the chief We salute him one and all Hail to the chief As we pledge cooperation In proud fulfillment Of a great noble call Yours is the aim To make this grand country grander This you will do That's our strong firm belief Hail to the one We selected as commander Hail to the president Hail to the chief Hail to the chief We have chosen for the nation Hail to the chief We salute him one and all Hail to the chief As we pledge cooperation In proud fulfillment Of a great noble call
To explain the electoral college, basically, if a state votes 51 percent red and 49 percent blue, then all the electoral votes go to red. Its really just a souped up way of the popular vote, but without it the country would almost always be blue. This is also the reason for the electoral map to look so red. Practically every rural county in the country was red this past election, but the cities were almost all blue.
And the part about it not having representation in Congress is simply because DC is treated as if it were a territory, and territories dont have any representation in the government.
Another part about the electoral college is, that 49 percent essentially doesn't mean anything. Their votes dont count because all the electoral votes went to red. If it were based on popular vote, then they would all count.
Just a quick correction sam. Rutherford B Hayes did install the first phone in the white house telegraph room in 1877. 50 years later it was Herbert Hoover that installed a phone in the oval office. Hayes was, you know, dead.

The seafood market is called the Wharf, S.W. DC

It's hyper experience here. Don't come tourists aren't welcome. That is not true just don't come because of covid
It is pricey.
