Hellenes does not come from Hellen the female on the statue. That is Eleni.
It come from Hellen which is Helin a male mythical figure, son of Deukalion and Pyrra.
Greece is only so populated with its tourists, which takes up to 30 million, that's 3 times higher than its own population.
98% Greeks? Well the official 2011 census data showed that 90% were Greek citizens and with 10% non-Greek citizens. Same census showed that 12% of the population was foreign-born. Greek census does not ask about ethnicity and religion since these are considered private data by the Greek law, it only asks for citizenship and place of birth.
My family still smash plates. Lol. I loved tgis video. Thank you sam
Mount Athos or Agio Oros has also another name 'the garden of the Virgin Mary ' this is the reason that women aren't allowed. Because the only woman that allowed is the Virgin Mary and none other in her garden. The only other female is cats and that is for the mice.
in history women have been allowed to enter when seek shelter from massacres and persecutions but must leave when the danger pass.
Finally thank you sam

You state that modern Olympic games were held "once again in Athens". The ancient ones were never held in Athens. There are some facts that your research was poor. Most of them are correct, don't get me wrong, but i think you could have found "cooler" facts if you did the work.
True that!

Fun fact: if you translate "gray" from English to Spanish or French, the translation will be "gris." The English pronounciation of this color is /gray/, while the Spanish or French pronounciation is /grees/, which is the same pronounciation for "Greece" used in English. This is because in Spanish and French, the "i" is pronounced as a long "e" sound.

Plate smashing was happening more in the past but is still happens in celebration and when dancing. But it has stop happening in" clubs"outside (I don't know the right word, anyway).because many people had gone to the hospital after been stabbed by fragments of plates when dancing.
Nice video. 18:28, but um actually we do wave our hands whilst saying hello. If we want to gesture an insult with our hands, we'll most likely abruptly move our palms as far away from our bodies possible with our fingers one apart from the other. There is also a common variation where we stick one hand behind the other to give it more emphasis.
When doing a "Μούτζα" (moutza) (the insulting hand gesture), nobody waves their hands. So don't be afraid to wave at Greek people, because they'll know for certain from the hand movement that it's only a friendly way to greet them.
Edit: 19:04, fun fact, I barely ever hear "ώπα" (οppa) being used my natives in Athens, but if I do it's most often a reaction to something that went slightly wrong or something that lightly shocked them. It is used quite a lot in the country side in celebrations when people are dancing. Tourists actually use it much more often and usually when having a good time drinking at a taverna.

The reason the Acropolis is so destroyed is solely on the venetian Morozini in 1687 shot a cannon ball at it, and on the Turks that made it into an explosives and powder cache. It's amazing that after the explosion it still stands. The roof, however, got blown so far away that parts of it were found kilometers away. And Morosini was really happy of his handiwork. Because the hit killed 300 Turks that were using the Acropolis as castle. www.historytoday.com/archive/months-past/parthenon-blown
