- Welcome everyone to another video!
Today I'm working on a rare Renault Clio 182 Trophy for Dreamcar Giveaways. They have bought it to put it on their competition site but first I've got a job to do! Possibly the most fiddly tight job going... a Cambelt and Dephaser pulley.
I'm doing a walk through of what's needed to be done in case you lot want to have a go yourself.
Go to dreamcargiveaways.co.uk to have a go at winning it..
Leaving a cheeky like and sub makes me a happy man. - Авто та транспорт
Love learning about the stuff we didn't get in the USA, and needless to say the technical information/demonstration is always worth tuning in for. Time very well spent. Cheers.
Thank you mate! It’s a shame these aren’t over there in the USA, they are pocket rockets! Great fun to drive 👍
I remember doing my F4R belt while the engine was out using the workshop manual, the amount of times I rotated the engine, rechecked the horseshoe and found it was slightly off... I did update the cambelt pulley from floating to the keyway'd one from the Megane however. Fiddley engines indeed.
My first car was a clio, I spent hours driving it and hours just sitting in it. I don't think I will ever lose my love for this shape. Early hatchbacks really just look so good
Same! Bought my original 172 back recently. Feels the same a decade later
Glad you're back. You tip to take your time is relevant to all jobs really. I've seen so many problems caused by people rushing or not paying attention. Good one. And thanks for no ads, such a relief.
Used to own number 047 of 500, can remember the hassel changing the cam belt, the sacrifice you make having a big 2.0ltr engine in a tiny hatch back, but my god it was a fun car to drive. Miss it so much would love to have it back.
Big respect to you buddy, a little bit of experience and having those locking devices is obviously essential to carry out that job properly. Nice work 👍
I agree with about adds, an irration. Love the vid, shows it simply a methodical process. Thanks for posting. Wish you full and recovery. Take care of yourself ❤
you should really use a locking tool on the in/ex sprockets and with all 3 sprckets loose and the crank/cams locked rotate the belt to insure the belt tension is correct. also the aux belt and tensioner should be replaced at same time because if that fails it is just as likely to snap the cam belt if it breaks
I put it on with the dephaser loose and the crank loose
Wow! A lot of 182 owners make it sound like changing the cambelt is really difficult but you make it look like its not too bad :) great content and subscribed 😊
It’s not a bad job just a bit fiddly in there, suck a big engine rammed into that tiny engine bay 👍
Yep, agreed. When I had my 182 there were only about 2 places in the UK able to do it. (according to the Facebook groups).....
@@ODDAutos I might have to take it to you sometime if you charge 45/ hour and are willing to do it
@Neil T oh I didn't know that. My alternator on my 182 has failed so I'm going to change it along with the aux belt/ tensioner. If I do that right I might consider the cam belt lol
As long as you have the locking kit etc it’s not too bad a job
New sub, love your video’s, and the cars you work on. Keep uw the good job!
Ofc it deserves a like and a sub! Definitely gonna save this for later since this is the best tutorial I found so far.
I own a clio 2 ph1 RSI k4m which as you might know, has a similar belt procedure (no dephaser), and I'm also in a hurry to save up for a decent 172 before it's too late hahaha
Nice and clear Love your videos well done
Good to see you back mate, glad you're feeling better and up and running again, what a treat this car is, would love to see and hear more of it!
Hiya buddy, thanks for that 👍👍. If you follow Dream Car Giveaways on Facebook usually they post driving videos of the cars before they go on the competition site 👍
@@ODDAutos Cheers for that, I'll be checking it out. Btw, lovely little intro you got there! Reminds me of my Outrun days at the local amusement park -)
Showing our age now 🤣. I remember road rash too with these kind of graphics
Lovely job looks fairly easy if you take your time. Thumbs up 👌👍👍👍👍
Absolute beauty of a car
always a good idea to disconnect the battery when doing any engine work!
Great to see u again!🥳🙏🏻
Thanks buddy 👍
Brilliant video as always mate
That rake is definitely not standard! I have however purchased two tickets because of this video! Go alongside my Trophy 🤣
Great work man, methodically tackled 💪😎
I owned a Trophy for 3 years. Loves every single day. Would happily buy another one. I sold it to a mate that crashed it 2 days after I sold it to him.
Mad rake on that one.
Makes me want to get some pump up air shocks, that we put on our cars back in the day here in Oz.
Ha ha we had those too on some stuff.
It’s got Pure motor sport solid suspension top mounts and strut brace too! That rake isn’t right! May sound daft but did you reverse it on the ramp and whack the handbrake on? Top cars 182’s and as usual your videos are fantastic thanks for sharing I really enjoy them.
The mk1 escort was my favorite as well. I built a replica 1600 Mexico 40 years ago.
Mine too 😍
Great video mate. If i’d have known i’d have lent you the timing tools for that job.
No ads gets my vote but understand everyone has to scrape a living wherever they can in these times.
Keep up the great work. ATB Gaz..
Cheers buddy 👍. Yer suppose, 8 ads in a 12 minute video gets a bit much at times though 😬
@@ODDAutos yeah it is tiring, especially for my missis listening to me moaning about effing adverts when i’ve got youtube on the telly 😂
Love my 172 track car they are a beast for the money
Great channel, matey. I've been subscribed for some time now👍
Cheers buddy, thanks for watching 👍👍
Awesome video, awesome channel. Regards from Brazil!
Thank you matey 👍👍
You doing good job 👍
I dint know how I missed this one cracking car hope someone has won it and is out enjoying the car
👍👍👍😜🏴🦕🦄😁🤞✌️
Great channel great content good job mate
Excellent tutorial mate.
Great little car. I've heard of them but never seen one.
HOO ROO 😅
Cheers Big Keg, hope your doing well mate. Been following the hotwheels you keep buying 👍
@@ODDAutos can't afford the real things mate ☺️
Nice work fella 😊
Cheers buddy
Awesome thanks for this mate. Definitely will subscribe.
£45 an hour is a great labour rate…Where’s your garage?
My auld banger has a big rake in it and other various gardening tools.
Good stuff
I bought one when First came out, awesome car handled on rails. So nice see one
Ahh mint, bet in a few years these will be up at the same price as when they were new 👍
@@ODDAutos im sure it was a terrific wee car, needed bit more grunt , but round corners on rails. Great memories
Nice one paul 👍🏼
Cheers matey 👍
I enjoyed that, thanks. I shan't be afraid of doing the Mrs's 172 Cup when i get it back on the road.
Did the £244 include the locking tools?
Yes have a go 👍. No locking pins I had before, think they were about £30 or close to that 👍
Nice job 👍
Would look better with gold / bronze wheels though.
Ive just done this job on a 197, for some reason it seemed a whole lot harder than when i did the same on a 182. Renaults are definitely the quirkiest cars I've ever worked on.
Ha ha massive engines in tiny spaces…. It’s the Renault way of design 🤣
@@ODDAutos mine had an oil leak from the rocker cover. Of course it's not as easy as whipping it off to replace a rubber gasket. The cover doubles up as the top cam bearing ladder 😫
Let the adverts pay for your work, you deserve it.
Hello would this be the same process for the Clio 197 considering it’s the same engine ?
Thank you
rake? me arse! paint yer diff white, 8 inch shackles, + point yer fog lamp on it, welcome to the seventies ford owners club...
seriously, that's got mis-matched springs, too much rake
most renaults tension up anti-clockwise, i've done one of these yrs ago, but can't remember
keep up the excellent work young man
Ha ha
A few years ago my mate was selling his trophy for 5k. Begged him to wait a few months so I could get the money to buy it. He sold it a week later, will always be the one that got away 😢
This car was never arse up like that when new, its had new lowering front springs or the old ones have gone weak
It all looked original to me but you never know 👍
the bumper looks a differnt shade of red?
The rake I had on my Capri back in the day was about a foot different to the front 🤣
Ha ha with slabs in the boot 👍
👍🏻
👍👍
😎
👍👍
Cheers mate
I have a problem with my 06 megane cc 1.6 k4m
It stalls after cold starts (starts well every time but after 10 sec it stalls)
When I disconnect the solenoid of the dephaser it runs fine)
Bought a cheap solenoid
But don t fix the problem
Cam sensor
Temp sensor
Crank sensor
Mal Sensor
Replaced too …
Oil change
Any other tips ?
At least it is the dephaser….expensive job 🤮
Evening matey, nice content as usual. How’s Keith???
Best
C
Cheers buddy, yes he settled into his job now, all going well 👍
can't see the car on the competition website anywhere
It’s going on next Wednesday the 3rd 👍👍
What I wouldn't give for a set of those Recaros for my 182...
Actually looking at those "How many left" stats there could be up to 160 possible sets of seats floating around out there? 🤔
That’s true mate, start looking in some abandoned garages ha ha.
@@ODDAutos I'm on the wrong side of the planet for Trophys but I will at least keep my eyes peeled on Ebay :D
Only 16mins to do all that, you missed out one of the most important parts, the bottom pulley bolt, it reminds me of the Haynes manuals, 3 spanners, undo this, remove that, reassembly is the reverse process, ignoring the three hours trying to undo one rusted bolt which snaps, a trip to the motor factors, some more tools to remove snapped bolt, a bigger hammer, the crank pulley bolt is a bugger to do by yourself.
Bought my first 182 a couple of weeks ago. Belts supposedly not due for 2 years but as no proof I really want to do for peace of mind. An indie in Falmouth just quoted me £1420! 😮 I couldn’t afford that even if I wanted to! Found place in Redruth who’ll let me supply parts and charge just over 400 labour and consumables. 🎉 So do you still have the black 182?
Yes still go my black one, ABS light is on now though 🙄. £1420 wow that’s a lot!
@@ODDAutos I know. My 182 didn't cost much more than that! I remember when people wouldn't touch BMW E30 M3 because of the cost of doing the timing chain and tensioner on the s14/2.3 twin cam. If I believe the previous owner, I have 2+ years to go but if I remove engine mount should I be able to gauge the belts condition? Glad you still have the black one. It looked great on the gold rims.
That’s been lowered at the front. It needs putting back to the standard height. The car should sit level.
It looks good though 😊
That rake ain’t standard
It all look standard under there, does still handle really well too 👍
Hi would you work on a subscriber’s vehicle ?
I have an Astra Mk5 van with full vxr running gear, it really needs your touch and knowledge to finish it off
Thanks Jim
Hiya buddy, that would be a good one to work on. Flat out though for a fair while, now I’m on my own jobs are taking far too long.
hey, that's a perfect tutorial!!! Why you hide it?
Alright buddy did you buy the corsa ?
No dream car still own it. I’m working on stripping under seal at the mo 👍
@@ODDAutos look forward to an update if you do one cheers glad ur over the c vid 👍
Beautiful car and now it’s ready for that handbreak turn off the driveway and into a ditch… hopefully not. 😄
Lol luckily the road test didn’t go that way 🤣
If it’s not adverts, it’s Y food or car vertical advertising dose ya nut in 😅
Where’s the competition to win this thing?
It’s going live next Wednesday the 3rd. The link to the website is in the description 👍👍
Can everyone please not enter this one so I can win it? I need to finally win something!
Have a look on google images. Trophies don’t have that much rake.
To bad the front bumper is a different red...
The gasket tho😂😂 designed by a intern.
Ha ha best gasket ever !! Lol
Must be a funicular Clio 🧐🤔
