    you sure matched Tom in that last field , love seeing that Puma pulling up that hill wile the Deere was stuck , would have been better if Calvin had not had that little issue but that happens to us all so Calvin some may laugh but it happens to them too

    Sometimes needs must, we have 25 acres stopped up for fourth cut which we won’t be doing till about the 20 th or so of September, it’s not like we don’t need the grass but it’s just an awkward patch that is just easier to cut and we are about 500 tonnes short of silage so it’s a case of every little helps and we might have another bit if we get a bit of a surge in growth and it gets a bit too strong for zero grazing. Best of luck from Wicklow.

    Getting more impressed with the JF each time it comes out. Our old 900 and 1050 would always let us down when the pressure was on. They have finally built a great machine.

    Reminds me of my dad's efforts over the years to cut silage in Westmeath, so many years it was super wet and the tractors would be sliding all over the place, especially on fields with large hills on them. And they didn't have such nice equipment either, none of the tractors were 4wd, never mind having double wheels.
    I guess the good news is that you've ploughed the fields early to make reseeding them easier ;-)

    Remember baling silage in the wet 1 summer and as I finished wrapping I looked at the tracks we’d made and thought it would be terrible but the heavy rain washed most of the tracks out to be fair!

    Intersting video. You should consider getting an old 8 foot trailed mower on standby you could use on your smaller massey for wet periods. You have nearly 10t total weight at the minute I'd say.

  • @grahamkelland
    @grahamkelland 5 місяців тому +3

    Total disaster far to wet with little or no wilt and a lot of mud end up making some rubbish silage then expect cows to milk on it more like get health problems with the cows. Be making silage for 35 years and only been caught in rain to make that sort mess but never go out mowing with ground that wet. Very often waiting a few days, can make all the difference.

      Listeria contamination can be a big issue. What do you do when one cow starts going around in circles? Do you dump the complete pit of silage? It might be the safest option.
