    I will be starting my LVN Program this month and am so grateful I came across this channel. There is so much great resources, information , advice, etc that is so helpful and inspiring for me on my journey to become a travel RN. Especially when I already live here in the Bay Area. Super thankful for you guys!!

    You and your wife are so informative. I am so appreciative of the transparency.
    I currently live in PR. I’m an RN with 10+ years of experience. I’ve just obtained my masters and I’m studying for the FNP boards.
    I’m contemplating relocating to San Diego California before the end of the year. Every one is telling me I’m crazy because it’s so expensive.
    So I am so very grateful for all the info you guys provide.

      Don't give up! Nursing school was extremely intense-especially for someone like me who came into it with no healthcare experience and a background in business/finance.

    I have been a per diem nurse for 3 years at KP , i work full time hours pretty much. Do you think there is a great benefit to make the switch to part time/full time? Thanks for ur time

    It’s not worth it at all !for 133 hours lol . Money is ok but your life quality sucks , no time to work out and eat healthy, no spending time with your family, dates , that’s all trade off 😅. Even 80 hours is A LOT !

    • @NursesToRiches
      @NursesToRiches  3 місяці тому +1

      I agree and for me even working 20 hours a week is a lot, lol. But for her it's temporary. She plans to do it so she can pay off all her debt and invest her money.

    • @mancycle1
      @mancycle1 3 місяці тому +1

      Agreed. But one important point is the option is there if anyone needs to make more money -- need to buy a house? new car? pay off debt? catchup on retirement investments? put three kids through college? A bedside nurse can make $400k or $500k in a year. You cannot do this if you are a bedside nurse in any other state. As a baseline, I work 36 hours a week in the Bay Area, make $220k a year and get 4 weeks of paid vacation. Every video on youtube is not tailored to my or your own personal needs but we need to recognize that the information is helpful to someone's life.

    Thanks for this valuable info. Is there such a thing that Kaiser doesn't pay you based on the years you're experienced? Like if I'm 7 years experienced and I applied to any of their Norcal facilities, they only pay me half of those years, so like a Step 3? How does that work

    • @NursesToRiches
      @NursesToRiches  3 місяці тому +1

      Yes, you would be hired on as a step 3. You get credited 1 step for every two years of outside experience, up to a maximum of 10 years of outside experience or 5-step equivalent.

  • @laureniszzz
    @laureniszzz 3 місяці тому +1

    If your schedule template is 24 hours a week at Kaiser but 12 hour shifts, do you still make time and a half for any hours over your FTE? Like say you picked up an extra 8 or 12 hour shift in that pay period?

    • @NursesToRiches
      @NursesToRiches  3 місяці тому +1

      Unfortunately no. You either have to be an 8-hour-shift employee and work more than 8 hours in 1 shift or work more than 40 hours in the week.

    does anyone know the difference between per diem and short hour? also if your kaiser hopsital has no shifts to pick up, can you pick up at others?

    • @d3r3kyasmar
      @d3r3kyasmar 3 місяці тому

      Short hour is that you are regularly scheduled only for short hour.
      Per diem is you are scheduled only when you are needed.

    • @NursesToRiches
      @NursesToRiches  3 місяці тому

      Short-hour employees are hired to work fewer than 20 hours per week and are given specific days they must work every pay period. These days will be the same every pay period so you will always know what your schedule is for as long as you remain in that position.
      Per diem is a nurse who puts his/her available on a calendar fir staffing to see. If a department is short-staffed and the unit has to fill a vacancy for a nurse who is sick, on vacation, or on any other type of leave, they will ask a per diem nurse if they want to come in and fill those gaps.
      Per diem nurses don't have a set schedule-short-hour nurses do.
      Both nurses get paid similarly because they don't have any benefits other than the option to contribute to their 401k with a company match, get pension benefits, and accrue paid sick leave.
