I haven't played in over 50 years but it's always a treat to see a master craftsman at work.

It's easy to see why this is the proper way to expand these slides. It's all about taking the time to make the proper tools.

Your tool is very much like an adjustable barrel lap. They come in a variety of sizes. You can also turn them down on the lathe if they are close to what you need but slightly too large. Just food for thought.

Those tools are great for expanding tubes, are there other tools for shrinking tubes of different sizes?
    Thank you so much ❤

Have you thought about investing in a bore micrometer, or a set of machinist's cylinder guages? Thet will tell you if the slide is coned in, or if the receiver is flared out

Where could I talk to you about potentially sending in a cornet a while from now? 1928 Pan American, all 3 solder joints along the instrument have snapped, and its been extremely tarnished and dented (not too badly dented on the body however, no stuck slides). Instrument came in a near-junk original case that absolutely reeks but doesn't show mold, came with a plastic mouthpiece oddly enough.

What would you do with a reversed leadpipe on a trumpet?

So were the specific sizes you made not available from Feree's? I have their trumpet sized expander which works a treat.

I’m surprised the player didn’t want those dents pushed out. Nice job on making the tools and expanding the slide tubes. Almost makes me want to go back to playing again.
