Ahhhh, yes, American Bandstand. Being a west Coast kid we got the AB later in the day as the East Coast was 3 hours earlier than us. The quality isn't good but many of the faces look familiar as well as the dress styles. That is a stretch back for this 78 year old.
The Ben E. King group was the Drifters. Funny story: I sang in a band for years and I've always looked really young for my age. (The picture I'm using for my UA-cam channel was taken 2 days after my 65th birthday.) I always sang a lot of songs from the early '60s so, between my youthful looks and my "oldies" song list, there was a lot of speculation as to my "real" age. There was even a rumor going around that I had sung with the Corsairs! I laughed and said, "I was in first grade when 'Smokey Places' came out!" LOL They were trying to make me even older than I am!
My late sister loved old music and especially loved this song. This is a great memory and a wonderful example of the talent that was prevalent in the doo-wop era.
I can remember the first time I heard this. It was one Sunday night in the early 1970s. I suppose I was idly scanning the AM radio dial just to hear what I could hear when I stumbled across Rockin’ Ray’s “Sunday Night Hall of Fame” on Charlotte NC’s WBT. It faded in and out a bit-I was hundreds of miles away in Baltimore-but it was worth the effort to hear an amazing old record like this one. Thank you, Ray, wherever you are! (Disc jockey heaven, probably.)
Haven't heard this great song in a looooooooooong time. Loved it then and love it now. You ain't kiddin'! DooWop IS the best. It does need to be brought back. Sadly, it would most likely go unappreciated by today's young people who are used to a lot of noise and flashing lights.
Sometimes, its good to be "old" (something I won't be til the moment of my death). I love this music. I remember when we dressed and danced like that. I still like the clothes. 😊
This was just slightly before my time but I love it! I just looked it up and this was released when I was 8. So I probably heard it somewhere. Great choice Romello. Once again Harri nails it. Thanks Romello and Harri. 🌺✌️
Great choice, and one of the first songs with misheard lyrics. (What was that guy in the background singing?) A favorite throughout the U.S., but especially on the Carolina beaches.
Have loved this song forever. So many swell and renditions have been done over the years but this ones really special.
That group you was trying to remember was The Drifters
That’s one of my favorite songs ever ! I bought that in 1962 when I was 12 and I still love it .
Me Too !
Always love this song. Thanks all.
Have this on a 45 (vinyl) thanks for sharing 💕😬

Yes. Real classic. Great bass performance. Thanks Romello. Thanks Harri. Agree with your take on doo-wop!
Great song! 👍

Same age as you, but in NEPA. and did the same thing… get home from school and turn on American Bandstand… best memories!

Brings me back to my early teens. Haven't heard it since then.

Do wop is a genre unto it's self!! Some of the greatest singing voices ever came from Do wop.
A rare example of rural do wop!
1961. A highlight song for me. Doo-wop will never be back as it once was. "Old soldiers never die. They simply fade away."
This song brings back many great memories from my youth in Junior High School, hanging out with my friends.
Great music

I knew it was your song Romello just by the name. Thanks to you and Harri.

They were moving up the charts when Gene Chandler dropped "The Duke of Earl" and didn't make it to the top. My favorite song of 1961.
I like your critiques the best. The British Invasion killed doowop, and it’s been downhill ever since

Good 1950s sound and pace
My all-time favorite from the Doo Wop genre! And they had very little success before or after this classic! You picked a good one, my friend!!!
If you ever want to react to a fantastic doo wop song..."Deep In My Heart" by The Shells. Just phenomenal stuff.
"Smokin' Out The Window" by Silk Sonic is new old skool with Bruno Mars and Anderson.Pak
Harri someone has dug out some of those great songs and recorded them. Look up Tim Foust from Home Free. He has done some great work.
