Written by leader Pookie Hudson and Calvin Carter (famous A&R man, producer, and songwriter), their original version was a highly charted R&B hit in 1953 but by the very next year, it was surpassed in sales and chart position by The McGuire Sisters and the country duo of Johnnie & Jack. Along with its appearance in "American Griffiti," it became the theme song for the Sha Na Na TV series in the early 70s. Thanks Romello and Harri.
Sooo beautiful. What a great memory, released in 1954, this R&B doo-wop group has such great vocal ranges and harmonies. The accompanying band just makes for a great tune. Resurfacing in 1973, in American Graffitti, the movie and used by Sha Na Na for their closing of their variety show, this song has never disappeared. Reached Number 20 on the Billboard Top R&B and Number 15 on the Billboard Top R&B juke box plays, just a great song. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Romello 👏 👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
I used to post this for my kids when I was on the road every night and the movie was Three Men and a Baby if I am not mistaken...Sha Na Na has a good version as well. Be Blessed.
I cannot hear this song without thinking of the classic “American Graffiti” one of my 5 favorite movies❤. Harri, I have a suggestion; please react to every song on the soundtrack; you cannot go wrong!!!
This was great. There is a great one from the same era by Jesse Belvin “Goodnight My Love”. He was often compared to Nat King Cole and had a great career ahead of him. Unfortunately he died at a young age in a car accident. Would love to see your reaction to that one. Thanks. 👏👏🇨🇦
That's Gerald Gregory doing the bass. Perhaps one of the two greatest bass singers of the vocal group era. This song was featured in Three Mean And A Baby and American Graffiti.
Definitely one of the greatest doowop songs ever. Was used by a popular DJ in my area late 60s as his signoff song. Incredible vocals, shout out to all the rest very good singers
People have mentioned American Graffiti, but this song was also used in the movie Three Men and a Baby, both the original recording and also sung as a lullaby.
One of my Top 3 Oldies tunes along with Runaround Sue & The Wanderer by Dion. If you watch the movie A Bronx Tale there a some nice Doo Wop tunes in it
This is one of my favourite songs of all time. It just has a beautiful atmosphere, immutable, gorgeous and timeless. Thanks to the film American Graffiti for introducing me to this song in the seventies. 😊
They used this song toward the end of the movie American Graffiti [1973]. Later I was in a band, and then a duo, and often used this song to close out the night letting people know that was it, we are done for the night, the bar is closing soon. in the band, yes, we did the four part harmony.
Harri, please react to "Those Oldies But Goodies (Remind Me of You)" by Little Caesar & the Romans. This was a one-hit wonder group in Los Angeles and "Those Oldies" was released in 1961. I remember falling in love with the song the very first time I heard it on the radio. Give it a try, Harri. It will NOT disappoint! From what I can pick up on Wiki, the lead singer appears to have been Carl Burnett. A second vocalist, David Johnson, does the speaking part in the middle of the song. Wiki says the two men quarreled later as to which one of them should be billed as "Little Caesar"!!
Ahhhh, doo-wop music. This may open Pandora's music box in the upcoming months😎. Delightful submission once again by Romello and a splendid review Harri.
Great song. I remember it well, It was released when I was only 6 years old but they were still playing it occasionally on the radio for several years and even when I reached Junior High School it was still a popular "last dance" song at school and neighborhood dances. It hit number 5 on Billboard's R&B sales chart, number 3 on the Cashbox R&B chart and 24 on the Variety Pop chart.
American Graffiti
Remember it well 😀. I'm 74years old and miss the doo wop. America pretty much quit playing doo wop when the English invasion came
It's 3:15am, listening to the song. Beautiful.
Featured on the soundtrack to "American Graffiti".
Sha Na Na used to sing this at the end of their shows. Bowzer used to sing the deep bass. They used to sing the 50's and 60's hits.
That was the BEST! ❤❤
Good times INDEED!!!👍🏻
I so wish they still made music like this. ❤❤❤❤❤
Right on!

Great song to dance to. Thanks Romello and Harri.

1 of those songs that sticks with you.

Good old do wop. Takes me back to my younger days.
Classic goodness

That’s the right suggestion. George Lucas put an amazing collection of music from the era in his movie.
Doo wop is different than my era ...but saying that I like this song 🎶🎵 very romantic.Nice reaction 💗
When I was in my twenties I picked up one of those 50s collections on vinyl. I loved it very much!
Boomer here and I'm slow dancing with my broom in the kitchen! Great romantic songs back then 💞. Thanks Harri 😘.

A true 💎. One of the greatest songs ever in my opinion
So beautiful!!!
This was in American Graffiti. Wolfman Jack played it.
People have mentioned American Graffiti, but this song was also used in the movie Three Men and a Baby, both the original recording and also sung as a lullaby.
Oh, I remember this at the end of a variety show! Great pick. I love the way the guitar comes in so clear. Great analysis Harri! Great reaction Harri!

Runaround Sue may be my personal favorite 😍. Loved everything Dion sang ♥️!
@@collette9008 🥰
Now yer talkin' deep 50's R&B. One of the greatest of those early groups.
When the bar was closing down. In the day.
this was the song that was played by every band.
This is one of my favourite songs of all time. It just has a beautiful atmosphere, immutable, gorgeous and timeless. Thanks to the film American Graffiti for introducing me to this song in the seventies. 😊
My Favorite Doo Wop group.
"Three Men And A Baby" featured the three main characters singing it… IIRC The Golden Girls did it once in an episode IIRC…
Slow dancing was so sensuous. You might have heard it in Grease”

as a kid our local oldies DJ would always play this song at the end of their shift in the evening
In Three Men And A Baby they sang this to the baby.
Although this was released a year before I was born, I remember hearing it somewhere. Great old stuff 🌺✌️
Very soulful, relaxing song, I have a request for you Harri, turn on the subtitles next time

Gerald Gregory was the bass singer for The Spaniels.
I am a hardcore Doowop lover and I dont know how I did not come across your show. I just subscribe my friend. Keep up the good work. Thank you Sir !

C-130 Hercules first flight.
This song would be excellent on Spectre Gunship during a mission. 😊
This is a sweet Song! ❤❤❤
