There is no Atlantis and there is no ancient super civilization. I hope people will research human history and pre history themselves and realize this is a fairy tale. Humans evolved over hundreds of thousands of years and most of our history is super boring and super brutal and we should be grateful to our ancestors for simply surviving so we could make it this far.

There's so much still to be found under the desert sand, the oceans, the polar ices, and in the jungles of the world. Frankly, I think a lot HAS been found that we haven't heard about that's probably in people's private collections. I'd love to see what the Vatican has that they DON'T display to the public. I think comparing the Iliad’s veracity to Plato’s account of Atlantis is rife with errors: Homer wrote the Iliad at most 600 years after the battle of Troy while Plato placed Atlantis approximately 9000 years before his time; while both the Iliad & Plato’s Atlantis contain many supernatural elements, one’s core theme is of a war of expansion (a decidedly realistic activity &, in the history of humans, so frequently repeated as to become mundane), while the other’s core theme is of god’s punishing people for hubris (which, at least from a historical/archeological/scientific standpoint, has absolutely never happened once, ever).
Atlantis is a parable best treated metaphysically, the Iliad is a historical account in epic poem form.

5:57 - yes very circular... if that circle was drawn by a drunk who'd just taken a bar stool to the head. There is no definite circle there, at all. This a classic case of pareidolia, finding meaning where there is none.. To see an actual scientist making this age old mistake is frankly shocking.
This location clearly did not sink beneath the sea, so it fails right out of the starting blocks. You can't take your one and only source for something (and as the lady says in this video, there is literally no other source) then selectively edit it to bludgeon your pet site into an Atlantis shaped hole. That's not how you prove things.
Plato was a philosopher, not a historian. Since we know from plate tectonics that what Plato described is not possible and that he also described Athens fighting Atlantis at a time when we know the former did not exist it conclusively proves he is not a reliable source and no one should take Atlantis seriously. Right there, in plain English (or rather translated Ancient Greek) are two major points of failure. It is extremely improbable the similarities to Atlantis and Minoan Crete and Thera/Santori are a coincidence. Plato almost assuredly knew of them.
There are many fascinating sunken ruins off the coast in many places that deserve full exploration and study. That cannot be denied. But to try and make them fit the Atlantis myth is foolhardy and indeed does them a disservice.

What archaeologists believe was Atlantis was found by a perfectly respectable American-Spanish joint expedition in southern Spain in Donana National Park on the Atlantic Ocean, results announced in 2015. Don't these diving scientists follow reports? The race has been decided.
No, seriously, look it up. And there are many good reasons why it was where they say it was, on the coast of southern Spain, although it was a Bronze Age city. For instance, as a port it would have straddled both the ancient Atlantic seaboard trade and the Mediterranean trade with its position next to the Pillars of Hercules as well as the Atlantic islands trade and could have been a great city indeed. But it was destroyed by a massive tidal wave originating either from a nearby fault line earthquake or an eruption in the Canary Islands or Azores, highly volcanic islands, perhaps in a day. Atlantis was in a highly seismic part of southern Spain, North Africa, AND The Pillars of Hercules. And it was NOT known as 'Atlantis' (see below *).
Now this happened perhaps 2000 years before Solon's time. So if Plato was describing events about a destroyed place outside of the Pillars of Hercules he may have been drawing on some vague story based on reality, but only to the extent that there might be a plausible folk memory of the event taking place a couple of thousand years before (with embellishments!). But to describe some event taking place 9000 years before would have been literally impossible.
I think it significant that there was relatively little attention given by the ancients to Atlantis either in literature, mythology, or art. It certainly had no central role in classical culture, it only assumes significance as a story made up by Plato in the realm of philosophical dialogue. This suggests that most of the intense interest in Atlantis and particularly its role as a foundational and fabulous historical place and all the pseudo-scientific interest in 'Atlantis' is a modern invention, and carried on by quacks in our own time but also taken seriously in Nazi racial doctrine ie the idea of a superior race dominating early mankind.
    * I found the following interesting information on the internet about how the ancients themselves viewed the myth of Atlantis (Quote): 'The term "Atlanteans" was also applied by the Greeks to the Phoenician colonies along the Barbary Coast of North Africa--i.e. those living near the Atlas Mountains. Diodorus Siculus describes their Titan-mythology and wars with the Libyan Amazones. Plato may have the same nation in mind for he names the second Atlantean king Gadeiros after a famous Phoenician colony near the Straits of Gibraltar.' (Credit Theoi Mythology Project). So we apparently have a good idea where Plato derived his name for his city, from the Phoenicians! Scott Zema BA MA Art History and Architecture UW
