Firstly, I know exactly what you mean by music for "while I'm working on the computer" - I have spent hundreds of hours of computer work time listening to just a handful of songs which have kept me in the mood for working. Secondly - is it modal? I too have struggled to understand modes. I think most obvious mode is mixolydian (flat seventh) such as Norwegian Wood by The Beatles. Pyramid Song slides around too far outside normality to classify as modal or not.

I can work listening to classical piano music because I know I'm not going to make a 'cover'. I tend also to listen to guitar music because it is mostly music I can just accept without analysing.
