  • Hides its swung rhythm until half way through. Edges precariously from chord to chord. An exceptionally clever piece of music which it has been a pleasure to learn.

    Incredible cover, the best I've ever heard of this song and maybe almost on par with Brad mehldau's paranoid android.

      Thank you. I did work hard on this song for a long time to get a high quality arrangement, and I am pleased that you commented on the result.

      @@paulwwells Paranoid Android and High and Dry I would say, but Everything in it's Right Place is a blast to play on Piano. They are my favorite band. Btw I love a LOT of your piano covers they are all very good.

    Best piano cover of this song I’ve heard, by far. Incredible performance, thanks for sharing!

    An amazingly accurate keyboard recreation of the original. You really know how to get the most out of that machine don't you haha.

      Thank you. If I like the song (and I nearly always do for the recordings which I make) then I tend to hang on to it for a while until the arrangement is mature. From the first time I heard Pyramid Song I knew that it was going to listen to it a lot.

      Same, but my first time hearing it was your cover about 10 days ago. Now it's one of my top songs to listen to while I'm working on the computer. So thanks for introducing me to it.
      There's a music term I recently learned, "modal". And it turns out lots of music I like is classified as modal. I was wondering does this song also fit that term? The explanations of it are a bit hard to understand.

      @@linsqopiring6816 Thanks. Firstly, I know exactly what you mean by music for "while I'm working on the computer" - I have spent hundreds of hours of computer work time listening to just a handful of songs which have kept me in the mood for working. Secondly - is it modal? I too have struggled to understand modes. I think most obvious mode is mixolydian (flat seventh) such as Norwegian Wood by The Beatles. Pyramid Song slides around too far outside normality to classify as modal or not.

      I see. You're very kind to give such a thoughtful response to my silly music questions. I really appreciate it. That's in addition to providing us all the great content for free haha. Way above and beyond. And Norwegian Wood, love it.
      I don't actually listen to many of your uploads as music to go with my computer work though to be honest. The thing is your covers are so engaging and captivating usually I just have to stop what I'm doing and go fullscreen and listen to the whole thing. And of course sing along, and fantasize that it's me playing it lol. I tend to use classical a lot for that. Or even elevator music, if you remember what that was. But plz don't make fun of me! 😝😝

      @@linsqopiring6816 Well said. I was going to mention that the level of interest for 'working music' has to be correct as you have explained. I can work listening to classical piano music because I know I'm not going to make a 'cover'. I tend also to listen to guitar music because it is mostly music I can just accept without analysing.

    For real though... your left hand is just phenomenally slick

    • @paulwwells
      @paulwwells  Рік тому

      Thank you. 😀There's a lot to get across in this song, especially with the big reveal of the swung nature of the rhythm half way through so the left hand has to be the drums as much as be the bass.
