The glass roof is simply *amazing*
@its fine

it's not that great once you own it. it doesn't absorb sound as well as a hardtop, the glass still don't reject that much heat so it's a hot greenhouse and the glare on the model y makes the full roof glass almost useless. all you see if the front row reflection. nice in theory but terrible IRL. i ended up installing a reflective shade in my model y roof. reduced my AC use significantly
@its fine I speak for everyone in the comments when I say....get F***ed!!!
If it was a Mercedes you would say its fine but if it was a tesla you would say ''amazing''

nice way to deflect the troll comments about ct window fail. ;)
Thats actually hilarious
Here's a dark thought: Maybe these guys were responsible for the Cyber Truck windows and are forced to wear these shirts to shame them.
The panoramic view that the model offers is quite interesting. You get the freedom of a convertible and the security of an enclosed model. If the glass is armored even more wonderful. Perfect!
Wow, that noise difference after raising the window was pretty cool to witness. Tesla's thick all-glass rooves are brilliant, I love how they actually make the vehicle's structural integrity higher & improve safety standards above pretty well all other designs (Awesome T-Shirts btw hahaha, I love it) These info snippets are great, keep em' coming 🙏🏽
I have laminated windows all around in my Volvo. Not just front and front sides. That is old tech. Tesla is just late on the ball.

@@isthatatesla Your right and I have to think that some people are buying the cybertruck just because of that. The whole point was to show that the glass just does not shatter on impact. Though it was a super iconi thing to happen that day. Well the best part for me was they cyberquad and they missed their mark on selling them like hotcakes. I am sure they could have sold 10s of thousands of them if not more on preorder if they were priced around 3 to 5k.

@@kameljoe21 I laughed so hard (in my head) when a couple friends tried to make fun of it like what a joke, it couldn't hold up and broke! Uh...it stopped it from entering the vehicle and are you aware what normal glass would do in that situation? I don't actually need it to be bulletproof lol.

The first laminated glass put in cars had a layer that would darken and become brittle over time. In the late 1930s, manufacturers began using Polyvinyl Butyral (PVB) to make auto glass clearer and stronger as well as to help block sound and harmful ultraviolet rays.
By 1937, safety glass became mandated for all cars. Changes occurred slowly throughout the years with innovations like the curved windshield from Studebaker in the 1940s.

Great, now all we need is an Active Noise Cancellation software update for the S/X and we're golden!
Unfortunately, ANC does not scale to the size of a car.
@@NicolaiWeitkemper think the new nio top end car thats to be released claims to have it
@@NicolaiWeitkemper there are actually quite a few cars out with ANC.
@@NicolaiWeitkemper can you explain what you mean, please?
@@theadventureinsider ANC works by generating anti-sound so that it and the noise cancel out. However, because sound waves follow the principle of superposition, sound may cancel out in one place and be amplified in another (constructive and destructive interference).
If noise, anti-sound and your ear aren't lined up, there's definitely spots without destructive interference. I suppose no car has a sound system capable of "beam-forming" anti-sound for up to (2+3)*2=10 ears.
From my understanding, it's therefore impossible to have ANC in cars, at least with regards to higher frequencies. Of course, I'd love to be proven wrong and learn about how ANC in cars *does* work, but I have yet to find a detailed explanation.
I drive my Tesla Model Y everyday and I never once thought about all the technology and thought that goes into just the glass. So cool!

Finally some content of engineering and how things work and why for people to learn design and emphasize passion - not just some marketing nonsense that will force you to buy something you don’t need or want.
Great to hear from the team themselves! I will say that this design intent is not translating to the end product, based on my experience with my 2018 Model 3 and 2021 Model Y. Even with the double-paned glass in the Model Y, it’s quite noisy in the cabin at highway speeds. Phone calls are not pleasant. There are a lot of variable factors, like location, temperature, tires, etc. but I’m happy to get in touch with the team to help determine how further improvements can be made.
It is still a fantastic product, and with further improvements it will get even better.
glad to see one realistic comment on this video. the whole time i’m saying to myself “teslas are not quite on the highway”
I just got 2023, so much quieter than my earlier model Y. Good to see Tesla continuously improving. Good to know they put 2 layers of films on roof.
The Model S is extremely quite.
Just got my 2021 model 3. Way more quite compared to all my 3 series bmws and my Mercedes gle350 on the freeways and city speeds.
I agree but wonder if it’s not the glass itself but all the connections/seams. My 2022 LRY isn’t particularly quiet either. It doesn’t feel “tight” And the top of my head gets very very hot March-October in Austin, TX

Hi
It's not your glass it's *our* glass
therefore this type of glass is stronger than a metal sheet or carbon fiber roof. They even show how they achieve this in this video.
Glass isn't inherently brittle and fragile - that's just the most common types. Metallic glass can be hard enough to scratch diamonds rather than the other way around.
