    I love the way you go into theme, you soak up the theme. Best line though had to be: "Monopoly for our generation, except in a good way" LOL

    This completely replaced Original Pandemic for me. It has richer theme, deeper mechanics, variants, better movement rules, cubes treated as patients, historical flavor text, and actual diseases (that are also color coded correctly too). And because of how Leacock designed it, you can totally play Original Pandemic rules if you like. I only own 3 Pandemics and none of them are the original game lol. Iberia, Cthulhu, and The Cure...and I am absolutely getting Rising Tide when that releases too. Original Pandemic is just becoming bland, boring, and outdated now.

    It's like a Ticket to Ride 'standalone expansion', like Europe or Märklin (oh, I see you mentioned this as well). I appreciate the added complexity / variability, it's nothing too much to handle but it should keep the game interesting for a longer period of time. Can't wait to get my copy!

    Hi Richard! We love your runthrough's and I was waiting for this one! I'm from Barcelona and I'd love to get one copy of the game! Too bad it's limited edition...will be hard to get one! :( btw, don't be sorry about your pronunciation of the names of cities, we had fun listening to it! ;)

    Would you put this in your top-3 non-legacy titles? I never really expanded outside of making the lab module a standard part of my base game, and would like to snag one of the spinoffs. Thanks, Richard!

    I haven't played this version yet, but the moving cubes seem very weird to me. So people now walk towards you for free instead of you spending actions to visit them. Additionally you can decide where they walk to (via the initial hospital placement) and sometimes also which ones move. That seems far too powerful for me. And you can't even say they move too slow to be a benefit, because you can make them faster via rail lines.
    There should be a fairly easy overpowered strategy to this game. Just build all four hospitals as close together as possible in the center of the map. Then have one person patrolling them and curing diseases. The other person tends to the coast cities. Both build up a star shaped railway network together, that connects hard to reach cities to the center and later on makes it cheaper for the "coast player" to move around.
    Could you try this out and see if it works? Because this version looks really nice, but I wouldn't want to buy a "broken" game.

      sorry, i've got to move on to other games, but you could certainly post on boardgamegeek and i'd bet money that there would be plenty of people who would test your hypothesis! :)

    I think strong theme is very important for a gateway experience, but you also mentioned the more constant pressure of this game. Which game is more gateway-friendly, classic Pandemic or Iberia? Thanks.

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  7 років тому +2

      regular pandemic, as this is basically pandemic with an expansion's worth of additional features added on top. unless the theme is more attractive to the newbie players in question, i suppose :)

    As someone who doesn't have Pandemic and has never played it, but has been looking to add it to their slowly growing collection of games I've been waiting on adding Pandemic because I've been hoping a Big Box edition would come out; however, I've also been contemplating the Legacy versions and now this edition (in order to keep initial costs more manageable) in order to get a bit of what the original Pandemic offers with it's expansions. Anyways, wondering what your thoughts might be for someone like myself. Should I just get this version as my first purchase (plus play) and if I find it enjoyable then perhaps take the step to the Legacy games for the modern timeline alternative or continue waiting to see if a Big Box edition comes out for the regular Pandemic?

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  7 років тому

      well, iberia is basically like playing pandemic with a full expansion worth of additional content added on top. pandemic legacy is like starting out with regular pandemic and slowly adding a couple of expansions worth of content over many successive sessions. personally, i wouldn't bother waiting for a big box of pandemic, as legacy serves that purpose (its box is big enough to fit it plus all three full expansions that have been made available for regular pandemic).
      otoh, i think i heard somewhere that iberia is a limited print run, and so in a few years it might not be available again...

      ***** I've played all but the last month. (Though I appreciate your courtesy in making sure not to spoil anything if I hadn't).
      It is a really great game with some awesome new mechanics.
      I agree I think this new addition of moving the cubes would be an interesting one in season two. If not right off the bat as you progress.
      What month are you on?
      Do you know by chance when season two is slated to be released?

    • @ericaschaidt8588
      @ericaschaidt8588 7 років тому

      ***** I understand what you mean about not wanting to make it a chore. Plus it being a "one and done" essentially you want to savor it. Lol.
      Have you has to open infamous "box 8" (the one you have to open if you lose four consecutive games?). We got to the point surprisingly where there was no way we would lose four in a row thru game okay so we opened it. I can't for the life of me remember what was in it!
      We have waited on the last month to get a few of our die hard pandemic players together to enjoy the last month together.
      I'm happy to hear that the next one isn't too far off. I'm hoping they keep putting seasons out. This is a really good idea. The storytelling elements and the way the whole world can change etc. It changes up the game in a way that expansions just can't.
      Hopefully they will incorporate the cube movement. We'll have to come back and comment on this thread when season 2 comes out!
      Oh and let me know what you think as you play thru the rest of the year of season one. I hope you continue to enjoy it!

    If you had to choose between Iberia and basic Pan plus any one expansion of your choice, which would you choose?

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  4 роки тому

      regular pan plus probably in the lab or on the brink (tough choice)

    You have not yet rated it on BGG, so what would you give it?

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  7 років тому +2

      i consider it an expansion, so i'd rank it the same as i rank regular pandemic :)

    • @masterbridgemaster1
      @masterbridgemaster1 7 років тому

      So I guess you missed this question, Rahdo... In fact, I don't see it in your collection at all. Do you still have it, and what would you rate it?

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  7 років тому

      well i don't rank expansions on boardgamegeek, i roll their value into the ranking of the base game. so basically, since pandemic is my #1 game of all time, and this is a cool alternate way to play pandemic, i'd also rank pandemic iberia as my #1 game of all time :)

    • @masterbridgemaster1
      @masterbridgemaster1 7 років тому

      rahdo
      I figured since it wasn't technically an expansion, but a reimplementation and a completely stand-alone game, you would have given it a separate entry and rating in your collection. But then would you rate it #2 just below regular Pandemic if you had to choose?

    • @rahdo
      @rahdo  7 років тому +3

      hmm, if you're asking how i rate it next to vanilla pandemic, well, first of all i'd have to ignore that regular pandemic has the potential get be expanded, which makes it win right there. but if there were a universe where the only pandemic stuff that existed was regular pandemic with no expansions, and pandemic iberia... hmm... that's a really tough one. really really tough (he said, as he ducked out the back window)

    Worst Pandemic game ever, so many goofs, so bad decisions, it doesn't look like it's one of your favourite games, hahahahaha.
    By the way, yes, very bad pronunciation but, we understand you. The "j" is very difficult for you.
    Very good game, I'm waiting for it. I think it's better than the original but not the best, Legacy is still the best for me.
