You know, as a Russian dude, this depiction of Kraven is amazing. The whole idea of depicting him through the lens of revolutionary trauma experienced by the second wave Russian immigrants is a great way of framing a Russian antagonist instead of just "le bad soviet kgb man with a funny accent"
@@eastonenroth2366 I just think he's got the right mix of pulpy tropes and pathological extravagance to fit in with Gotham's other rogues, honestly he'd be a better rival for Batman than Bane ever was
I only ever read Kraven's Last Hunt because of the implications leading into the PS5 Spider-Man 2 game of potentially adapting the story. Especially when it was said to be darker and Insomniac's Empire Strikes Back for the games. So I was curious, never really read a whole comic myself despite loving Spider-Man for years, even after researching so much of the character down the line. Then I finally read it. Maybe it's because it's the first comic I've read or only read in years, but reading Last Hunt was an absolute experience that I couldn't help but keep reading and reading. Kraven slowly succumbing to his idea of becoming the Spider and going more & more insane. While also focusing on the more emotional side of things with Peter & MJ. Such an amazing character study on both sides that you can read again and again that's stood the test of time. I will never forget reading it for the first time and doing a bit more to understand one of the best Spider-Man stories ever told. While I was a bit disappointed that Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 didn't hit that dark potential it could've had, although with really good nods to this story, I will forever be grateful to have read the story that made Kraven one of the best villains in Spidey's rogues gallery.
@Dachin55555 It was, but there were times where the stakes didn't hit the same as let's say towards the end of the first game. I'd argue the first game was darker while the second felt like it was playing safe at what it was establishing. Despite the few 2-3 scenes that earned that dark tone. Including THAT death scene.
There are 2 manga I think you would love. Bokutachi ga yarimashita, and Himizu. One is an absurdist black comedy and the other is depressing beyond words. You could probably make an amazing deep dive into one of them if you wanted, they're both very intense reads.
I just wanna see KINO (short for Kraven In Name Only) just because ATJ is eye candy. I know, to each their own and your opinion is just as valid as mine.
I think you should cover The Batman Red Rain Trilogy at some point considering that you mentioned it’s one of your favorites in your Night Cries analysis. It hasn’t really gotten a proper review by anyone on UA-cam yet, and while I don’t think it’s quite as good as Arkham asylum or Night Cries, it’s still a damn good Batman story with beautiful art by Kelly Jones. Really good stuff here, keep cooking.
Hey man great video as always very exicted to see you pop up in the notifications could you do a video on the watchmen comic as well keep up the good work
I remember seeing a youtube ad about this comic. It was fully voice acted and had a motion comic vibe. Omg when Kraven killed Spiderman it was incredibly scary. I've always been curious about this comic

You CLEARLY love this dark, complex stuff and it's infectious! I think you'll really dig O'Neils Question and the much more recent Superman Warworld saga! And thanks for your Crow video! Got the book myself and you did it so much justice! 🙏🏻😍
Plz never change ur background music, it's perfect for these dark comics. Ps. Your videos rock and if I wasn't poor I would give u some money for your effort.
That's a Hulk story the MCU would never have the guts to do. Hell the only film adaptation to show that The Hulk is a product of Bruce Banner being abused was the 2003 Ang Lee film 5 years before the MCU.
I know Kraven is supposed to be a serious and formidable foe and he's a cool bad guy. At the same time, his mustache kinda gives me either Village People or uh, Watergate codename "movie" vibes. Silly thoughts about facial hair on Spidey foe aside. This is a great analysis. Quick little sidenote related to the Chameleon. His name is a combination of two names from two characters in The Brothers Karamazov. The Dimitri in Dimitri Karamazov and the Smerdyakov in Pavel Fyodorovich Smerdyakov. The latter character's last name translating to "the reeking one". By the by, the latter character has bastard lineage.
I'm not a fan of Spiderman but certainly you exposed a lot of reasons why this comics is the most memorable Spiderman comic all thanks to Kraven's role and characterization (Spiderman himself is the least interesting character in this story imo)

Dude it’s so nice seeing how much your editing and voiceovers evolve every time you post
This is my best edited video by far. I'm really happy with how it turned out.
I actually adapted this story into a motion comic movie with a full cast of pro voice actors
Incidentally, I think Kraven would be a great Batman villain
Perfect Batman villain
Could you explain why?

Spider-Man 2 is still dark

44:47 tsk tsk tsk, you should've removed the "free comics" letter part on the bottom.
I'd rather have a Kraven's last Hunt movie, instead of a Sony cash grab prequel film.
Sony making those films about Spider-Man characters without Spider-Man makes no sense.
@@Xehanort10 it makes sense somewhat with Venom, but Morbius and Madam web seem like cash grabs
@@aaronbood1999 Yeah Venom's become a character with his own world in the comics unlike Morbius and Madame Web.
