The house is in great condition considering it's age, especially since it was a rental. An owner's apartment? I hope you'll still be pulling down the walls that split this house into a duplex and returning it to its single family glory. I know you gotta do what makes it financially feasible but I'd hate to see the house turned back into some kind of rental.
You are right, we did not show those two things in this video. The servant's staircase goes straight outside to the back porch. We think it used to turn at the bottom to go from the kitchen to the second floor. It's on our long list of investigations into the mysteries of the house
Beautiful door going into the Library! It's amazing that so many of the homes original features are still intact and in good condition.🤗 Love the old windows, strong wood.
Thanks, we love this area. We expect to change the colors of a few rooms. Of course, since we’ll be restoring any painted woodwork, it doesn’t matter if it’s green or pink 😀 the paint is coming off
Right? It still has it's shellac finish which means that much of it can be cleaned up and renewed with denatured alcohol. You would'nt believe how dusty some of it was
I found this gem by accident, I have watched at least 5 episodes. Looking forward to seeing more. The Victorian house is beautiful. I didn't notice a back staircase for the servants. Are there any pocket doors? The built-in cupboards and bookshelves are gorgeous, I love the wood and the green color walls.
Thanks so much for watching. There is a back staircase, but aside from sweeping the steps and replacing the light bulb, we haven't done anything with it yet. As for the pocket doors, sadly they are not there. We have strong evidence to support our hypothesis that there were once pocket doors between the dining room and the parlor. Cracks in the plaster show a clear outline of where they were. We fed cameras into the walls, and the doors are not there! We believe that one of the doors was re-purposed to create the single (but really big), hinged door that is there now. We'll show this in a video when we get to the dining room.
How stunning! An idea: if the fireplace with the summer cover doesn't work, get one of those little electric stoves from Lowe's or Home Depot, and put it in the opening. A fire effect, and a heater, too! Dimplex is a good brand. Btw, we have an 1898 Victorian!-so thanks for restoring that historic place!
Well, there were no closets but that’s normal for the age of the house. You said there was going to be a small bathroom for any guests to use. So, I didn’t see a guest bedroom or possibly another bathroom. I also didn’t notice a fireplace in the last room.
There is a closet that I did not show in the 3rd bedroom. I did mention that it's door is in the door storage bedroom upstairs, but didn't think to show footage of that. The main bedrooms have what are called a 'clothes press' around here. It's like a built in wardrobe, and the clothes hang facing you (rather than facing to the side) Locals tell us that since people didn't have so many clothes, they didn't need full closets. The bookshelf with a cabinet below in the front bedroom was one. If you look again, you'll see that it's not deep enough to hang clothes the way we're used to today. On the third floor, there are two clothes presses, they're in the hall across from and facing the rooms. We'll put the bathroom in the trunk Closet and part of the hall. It will have a door to hall You're right about no fireplace in the last room. At one time there was a sink in this room. The hot and cold and the drain are capped. Thanks for your comments, it gives us a chance to think about things to include in future videos
I was thinking how beautiful the floor boards looked on the third floor. The fllors will be beautiful when youve refinished them. How the heck do you change the light bulb in the third floor stairwell! My 1917 house has several shallow closets, cannot hang clothes sideways. And, practically the whole downstairs eas painted the same color, woodwork and all, only not green!
Changing lightbulbs will be a challenge, especially in the entryway where there are 11’ ceilings and stairs under one of the fixtures. Now that we’ve made two hallways back into one, we’re sure we’ll need to rethink the lighting
That's the plan, although we do plan to rent the home, and even rooms, to short term visitors and for events. It may be 6-10 months before we have a more specific plan for that

We’re putting it back the way it was! The process of restoring the staircase is a long one, but it will be worth it
You did not show the bathroom or servants staircase. This house is beautiful. Can’t wait for future videos.

This house is in incredible condition considering its age.
It is and we're really excited to have found it

The doors really are beautiful. Many need a really good cleaning and restored shellac. Hopefully more on that soon
OOf all that Toy Plant Green. So many homes used that green in the area. I am originally from the area and so happy to see you restore the old girl.
Thanks, we love this area. We expect to change the colors of a few rooms. Of course, since we’ll be restoring any painted woodwork, it doesn’t matter if it’s green or pink 😀 the paint is coming off
The woodwork is just beautiful 😮

So glad you are saving this beautiful home. Isnt sad someone cut those lovely shutters to install a window AC unit?
Yes, but at least they're still there. Restoring them seems like a great winter project, doesn't it?
You didn't show a bathroom 😒 beautiful house wood work is gorgeous. May God bless y'all 🙏 👵
You’re right, also bedroom #2. There is a video on that room specifically

We will look into those. Glad you have joined us. So nice to see so many old house lovers/savers out there
What an amazing home! Looking forward to seeing more.
Thanks, more to come

@@ChaplineHouse I grew up in a brick house built in 1852. Your house makes me feel very homesick for that wonderful place. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for joining us on our adventure!
I think this home is charming and very beautiful . I can't wait to see it all done.😊
Thank you! 😊
You are doing a nice job with your video. This is so interesting.😮😮😮. Oh I love that old radio!
Glad you enjoyed it. I think that radio wants to be in the library when it's done, what do you think?
Thanks for the tour - most enjoyable!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wonderful video. Can’t Waite to see more about this house. Good job😮
Thank you. More to come, so please keep watching and let us know your thoughts
I think I’d check the green paint. I understand there was an issue with green.
As far as we can tell, the walls were last painted when everything was lead paint. We assume it all is, but test it just the same
Thank you for the tour
Thanks for watching!

Beautiful…👁👁 12:08
First time watching your videos. The house is beautiful, will it now be a single family home?
That's the plan, although we do plan to rent the home, and even rooms, to short term visitors and for events. It may be 6-10 months before we have a more specific plan for that
You mentioned a living room and kitchenette on the top floor…are you turning it back into an apartment?
Yes, the plan is to convert one of the two bedrooms into a living area by adding a kitchenette and a doorway into the other bedroom
I’m interested in seeing the bathroom, please.
Ok! We'll feature the bathroom(s) in future videos. Meanwhile, there is a short that we posted on removing the carpet in the upstairs bathroom
Aswome one
Thanks 😊
Why is this called the Chapline House?
Adjacent to the historic Chapline Row
@@ChaplineHouse just wondering if it had at one time, been the home of a Moses Chapline descendant.
I hope you restoring this place not make all modern cookie cutter place
No cookie cutter here. We're fascinated with learning the history and respecting the originality of the house
Rip that kitchen off
