Camping Trip 35mm Film Edition, Shooting Kodak Portra Film (Snippet 15)

- One of our favorite things is exploring and when you pair that with practicing my new photography hobby, well its a magical combination for Snippet 15. Even though I start off this video saying that this is our second photo tutorial... it didn't quite turn out like a tutorial, and that is okay! I think it's easy to focus on the steps it takes to learn something new -- like learning the grammar of a new language, or in this case the right f-stop/shutter speed for the light or how to focus precisely -- however the most important part of learning something new is PRACTICE!
You aren't going to become a flexible yogi overnight or the next Picasso by watching one youtube tutorial. It takes hours upon hours of consistent practice to master anything. So we thought that sharing another video with me taking photos and Lou giving me tips and tricks along the way would be the perfect thing to inspire you to get out and practice whatever you are trying to learn right now!! For example, this time around we learned that a 160 film ISO is a little slow for shooting in the woods, and that it's really hard to capture the beauty of a hiking trail in front of you because it never seems to look quite as good as when you're there.
And with that - the new weekly description question for those of you who are still reading :) What skills/hobbies are you working on right now? What is the best way you've found to keep practicing the things you want to improve on?
Thank you for watching, for reading, and for joining us here. It means the world to Lou and I to connect with each of you and we're so grateful for your continued support.
Film Camera: Canon A1 with a 50mm f/1.4 Canon lens

I love the flow of your videos and the way you put them together, when someone asks me what sort of videos I'm into at the moment I just show them your channel
the fact that this comment already has ten up votes just makes lou and i fill with so much excitement :) seriously george we appreciate the support so much and the fact that you share the channel -- well you know exactly how to make us smile so thank you for that!
Don’t mind me just binge watching all of your film videos
Hahaha, go right ahead Kienna! I always love it when people go backwards and watch the old stuff, a lot of hard work and very special moments back there! ---Lou
@@WildWeRoam Also going through, some time later. After just getting into this stuff myself. Got a few tabs lined up with vids, kettle on for a cuppa, a night to make the most of. Thank you for the good stuff.
You guys are goals!!! My favourite part was the end how she got kinda sad about the roll of film ending but then joyful b/c she can't wait to see how the images turn out to be
Hahahaha, yeah, that moment when the film won't wind and you realize your all out is priceless : ) One of the unique joys of film that also takes a little getting used to!
i hope i'm as happy as you two and going on adventures when i'm 26 : )
I'm sure you will be maya :)
The cool thing about shooting film is after some time you will become more intuitive about how much light is available and what settings to select. You will look at a scene and think, "yeah, f11, 1/125 shutter speed", considering the ISO. It takes time, but it's a pretty cool skill to develop (no pun intended).
Also, having a decent light meter doesn't hurt.
That train was straight out of a Wes Anderson movie
Thanks Peder! I'm always looking for things that look like they could be in his movies, but they are hard to spot, and that train was definitely one of them! ---Lou
that is EXACTLY what i thought
Try overexposing the film one stop (or even two stops!). You'll get better colour rendition (instead of those blues/greens) and skin tones also seem to "glow" when overexposed, specially with kodak portra. Although you'll probably need a faster ISO.
Also, one of the best tips I had when learning photography, was learning to see the light. You can do that all the time, just by looking at someones face and trying to determine what is the main light source, and if its hard light (sharp shadows and lots of contrast) or soft light (not very defined shadows and usually a lower contrast)
Great video as always!! Big fan of you!
Wow alonso, thank you so much for these tips. We've been shooting on aperture priority, but I think switching over to full manual is how i'm going to tackle the next roll (just got to get a light meter app on my phone) Cant wait to see how the film looks a bit over exposed / that "glow" sounds so lovely.
Ill definitely focus on light for the next roll - for example the photo i took of lou in the tree was a bit silly to take since it was so backlit. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch our videos and engage with them like this. Your comments are so appreciated :)
An easier way to overexpose is to set the ISO to 200 if you're shooting at 400 (or 100 if you're shooting at 200 and so on). And always spot meter (with the phone app) your subject's face!
Hope you upload the results :D
Ahhh, that makes sense! Thanks for the tip : ) We will be shooting another video in the coming weeks so we'll be sure to implement your tips and pass them on : )
I always have that same disappointed look when the a roll finishes haha. This was so beautiful to watch. Looks like an incredible break in a gorgeous, gorgeous part of the world. The photos came out really nice too. Well done.
Hahaha, yeah, that feeling when the film won't wind any further is a uniquely amazing one that takes some getting used to with film for sure! It really was a beautiful little vacation, and its so nice coming back and reading all these beautiful things people had to say about it. Hope your having a nice week!
I am glad you survived the last year . I have been watching you before your marriage . I wish all the best for the new journeys and i hope you reach million+
Love to both of you from India !
I love this so much. You two are the best.
Camille your comments always bring a smile to our faces :) Thank you thank you!
You guys are such beautiful people. Inside and out, really!
I truely admire how passionately you look at life and the respectful and sweet way you treat each other.
All the best for you!
I'm absolutely jealous of the way you guys supporting each other. Love you guys!
One of the nice things about shooting film is that you're forced to be more careful with each shot because you're limited in how many you can take, and see I love that so much because it forces me slow down, look around the world around me and think about it before I press the button, which helps me to appreciate more of my surroundings. And especially at a place like where you guys went? Psh, I'd get lost. So stinkin beautiful. Good job with the video guys!
I really love how it forces me to slow down, focus on the composure (though I''m still working on this - especially when i ask strangers to take their photo sometimes i get a little nervous and rush the experience which is too bad because i still need a bit of time to get situated - figure out lighting and focus and all that jazz) but overall it has been such a rewarding process getting to know our Canon A-1. Its even helped my digital photography skills too. Thank you so so much for your thoughtful comment :) It really feels surreal to us to interact with all these people who appreciate the same beauty in life that we do, so thank you so much for taking the time to comment!
I used to watch you guys almost every day and then somehow I got lost and had forgotten about you guys. Well today is a good day, youtube recommended me this and it's like seeing an old friend! Hope you all are well. :D
I love love LOVE watching you guys and your journeys with film 🤗💖🎉 making me excited to get back out shooting in spring xxx
Thanks Emily! This was quite the trip!! Can't wait to get back into camping and hiking : ) ---Lou
The color in this video is superb.
I think this is absolutely gorgeous, you're guys excitement and enthusiasm is shown through your videos. I also like the fact that you guys use a film camera versus a digital camera. I wish I knew more channels that produced videos like yours.
I'm so so glad that you're feeling all our energy through the video :) Our true goal is just to bring more positivity into this world and express ourselves creatively so looks like its all coming together! Can't wait to share more videos with you Moe :)
I think the photo in which Lou is sitting besides the camping is the best of all photos, the colors and composition is good. Good work lovely! (I have to admit that these are my fav kind of vid) xoxox
Hahaha, yeah that was our favorite photo too! It's trick getting good compositions because we want the act of taking to photo to be a good composition for the video as well so its kind of a balance between taking a good film photo and making a good youtube video : ) Thanks for watching and commenting as always! Hope your having a nice week!
Every frame is a piece of art in your videos...❤❤
Thanks so much for watching! Really missing this camping trip lately, but something even better is in the works ; ) ---Lou
Wow....nice scenery...happy birthday lou...You guys are doing this great..!!! Keep it up!
Thanks so much! Those two camping trips were unreal! We will definitely be doing more of them in the future because they are just so so much fun, exploring, filming, taking film photos, and getting out of the city!!
These are so much fun to watch! You guys have so much fun. You need to carry and extra roll of film. There is always one more thing to take a picture of! LOL!
Thanks so much for watching Jennifer! We really do have too much fun ahahah : ) I really like your tip about the extra roll, we will keep a few of those lying around the bottom of the backpack on our next adventure! Hope your having a good week!
Honestly I've seen a lot of UA-cam relationship ppl on here who are so extra and try so hard. But y'all are so naturally cute together without having to do challenges or click bait at all. Subscribing!
Wow this was such a sweet comment :) We feel so lucky to get to spend our life together and it is so fun to share little moments with you here on our channel. Sending you lots of love from a grey and snowy berlin xxx
Nothing compare to film photography. You guys created very nice video "pure gold" as you said. I can't find better explain why we should keep shooting film. Well done. 👍
Thanks so much for watching and commenting! Hope your week is going well : )
So I've watched pretty much all of your photography videos. I found my dad's old Nikon em while helping my mom fix up our old house to sell. Just bought batteries and film today and can't wait to shoot. Can't believe I found fellow veg peeps while looking up camera tutorials :)
Ahh that is so exciting Jesse! Hope your first film adventures turned out great :) Sending you so much love from Berlin ! - Dana
I only here for the Photo videos. I been loving all your 35mm videos and how your pictures turn out. I am also a photography lover as well.
I want a relationship like yours lol it's great.
Hahaha, thanks Terrence! We are very very lucky, its true ; ) ---Lou
They are married , you should watch it ! I love them !
Love the positivity in your videos. Mesmerizing 🙂👍
We're so happy we can share our adventures with you :) - Dana
I remember saving your "how to .. 35mm" quite a while ago. I just bought my first analogue camera two days ago! A mint Canon AE-1 program with a F1.8 lens! Already seen like 5 or 6 videos last couple of hours from you guys! Love the content! I am at the beginning of exploring this analogue photography world after 5,5 years of digital photography with my Magic Lantern running Canon 550d! Love this photography you guys make! And the quality of the video is beyond pro. It's fantastic.
Thanks so much! We actually use magic lantern on the 5d3, hence the image ; ) which finally looks pretty good! --Lou
Stumbled across your channel and absolutely loved it! The flow of it reminded me so much of an 80’s film. Which I think is something you don’t see much of because everyone is trying to be like everybody else and you guys just stand out. Great films guys.
Thanks for the awesome comment! We tend to try and copy Wes Andersons style wherever possible so maybe he gets a lot of inspiration from 80s films?
You guys have a great style for your videos and you also look like an awesome couple! Thanks for the inspirational stuff!
thank you so much for this lovely note john! so sorry for the delayed response! things have been a little crazy here the last few months, but we're finally back to uploading regularly and just put up a video about lOu's trip to Iceland :) Hope you like it! - Dana
Your videos are so enjoyable. You guys are great doing this, please keep doing it.
You're so kind Manuel! So happy you found our channel :) Thank you for the support! - Dana
You are a naturally gifted photographer and I am glad you chose film over digital :)
thank you so much!!! - Dana
I love every single thing about this video.
:):):) that makes me smile Nurul! Thank you so much for the kind words!
love watching your videos. keep it up! sending lots of love from malaysia
I don't understand you guys. I have never been able to repeatedly watch a UA-camr and enjoy it more and more.
This was so good to watch and a real trip back to memory lane
Yeah thats how it feels for us as well, looking back at all these old videos! ---Lou
First time I see your channel and I have watched a couple of videos now. Except the part that I like the videos and the pictures, you guys gave me instant positive energy ( :
Glad you like them : ) ---Lou
the photos are great!! and you two are just golden, honestly. could watch you both for hours. i'm currently also expanding my photography knowledge, including learning about long exposures and RAW files! and i'm also trying to start up a blog page to store all the photos - the latter is not going too well! have a lovely week !!!
Thanks so much for the lovely comment! And for reading and responding to my little questions!!! Long exposures seem like a lot of fun--we only do them when we shoot timelapses which makes things nice and blurry but we haven't really explored them much other than that. But shooting RAW is a biggy--that allows you to edit your photos a lot more and fix things like white balance which is super nice to have in case you want to tweak things, but then of course you have to figure out how to store all your photos because the file sizes add up really quickly... Good luck with your blogging adventures! Hope your week is going well : )
It's so strange and amazing to see you guys in places I am so familiar with! I walked these trails so often.
I wish you all the best, and thanks for inspiring me to get into film photography!
We really loved our camping trip there, the trails were beautiful!! ---Lou
Awesome video! So natural, so positive!
Thank you : ) ---Lou
please keep doing this,
you guys are adorable couple and i envy that !
and your photos are getting better !!
awesome !
thanks so much for the kind words Ricky!! we're so happy to be making these videos and sharing them with you here on youtube. definitely don't have any plans on stopping soon!!! hope you have a beautiful weekend ahead of you and see you next tuesday with our weekly video :)
I love this series so much. And edits are awesome, you are a talented person 😊
Thanks so much for watching! We've been having so much fun with the film series I think we are going to have to shoot a video like this every couple weeks at the least because it's been a blast! Looks like the next one might have to be in Berlin, which would be a real challenge : ) Hope your week is going well!
in this whole glamourization of youtube it's really hard to find original and worthy content..I absolutely love your style and the artistic perspective you have! your channel is defenitely a little youtube gem! keep doing amazing things :D
Thanks so much for the beautiful comment : ) It's been a journey trying to find our voice and place within the UA-cam platform (we only started about a year ago on hear--we were on vimeo first, actually, but abandoned that because there was so little community and its fun to hear from people more!) But yeah, UA-cam's growth has made it really hard to stand out because there is just so so much content being created but its really nice to hear that our idea to "only" make 1 video every week is slowly starting to find its place and find people who like these type of videos! Hope your having a nice week : )
Oooh! I love Kodak Portra's tone. I should try using it sometime. Lovely shots, perfect prints!
And oh! Belated Happy Birthday, Lou!
Thanks so much for watching and for the birthday wishes! We've been loving shooting portra so there will be many for videos with it in the near future : ) Hope your week is going well!
Hey guys, I'm from Brasil and I jus wanna say you two look so cool!! I started to love your videos and I always come back to see more of you... Keep sharing your energy and your experiences with us because it transport us to a place near you. Thanks and love -- Neto
Thank you so much for this kind comment Neto! So cool to connect with someone in Brasil :) Lou's tattoo artist is actually from Rio and we have been dreaming of visiting - fingers crossed we can make that a reality! - Dana
Your videos really inspire me.thank you!🙏
It makes me so happy to read this comment :) - Dana
Happy Birthday! And yaay, i really love your 35mm film videos.
Thanks for the birthday wishes! We've been loving filming all these 35mm film videos so there will be lots more coming in the near future : ) It's a little tricky because they are very time consuming and we have to wait about a week to get the photos back so we just have to plan them ahead a little because we really like posting a video every tuesday consistently so that usually means we shoot 2 videos in one week, but its totally worth it because the end result is so much fun to watch and to hear comments like yours : )
I LOVE your channel. Definitely just inspired me to purchase a film camera and rekindle my love for photography
thanks so so much Molly! i'm so happy that you decided to jump back into you love of photography. i've found this new medium so so rewarding. Each roll of film we get developed is like a whole new adventure. Can't wait to hear how your first few rolls with the camera turn out! xxxx
Your shots are coming out good. It helps to be shooting in a beautiful country like Germany. My first SLR was the Canon A-1, which I purchased while stationed there in 1982. It's a great and iconic camera. I wish I still had it.
Hahaha, thanks for the kind words! We still have a lot of learning to do but it certainly makes it easier when you go take photographs in beautiful places like Bad Schandau...! It's been so much fun learning about our A-1, they really are incredible. Maybe you'll be able to find one second hand--they don't go for much anymore : )
oh my god that smile she wears everytime is uplifting
Loved the video though I held my breath when you jumped across that one rock. The area looked beautiful to hike in, makes we want to head out to the woods. Still love the convenience of the Iphone camera but there is put joy in the anticipation of developing photos that I miss. Another video that you hit out of the ballpark!!!!!
Thanks mom! The rock jump looked harder in the video than it actually was in real life : )
This makes me so happy I have tears in my eyes. You guy are so cool
really chill video with really pretty pictures
Thanks for watching and commenting Matthew! Hope your week is going well : )
I'm a new subscriber :) Subbed last month ( poor memory ) and last month when I found my dad's old 35mm camera. I know my comment doesnt make sense but I instantly fell inlove with this kinda of camera. There's something magical in it and life in the photos. I love you both ❤️ your channel taught me how to put film on 😊😊😊😊
Thanks so much for watching, commenting, and subbing!! There really is something special about shooting film ; ) maybe its because its so much slower of an experience, or the winding sound is really nice, or the sound of the shutter--maybe its all just awesome hahahaha! Hope your week is going well : )
Omg you reply 😱 thanks :)))) keep upload videos ❤
Haha, we do : ) New videos every tuesday ; )
i just discover you from a friend who also loves travel... i also love it , and i'm inspired by your vlogs yeah... wanna do it too... stay bubbly and blessed 😊😊😊
Hahaha, so glad you found us! Hope you're having a nice weekend ; )
i became interested in film photography and saw your channel! the cool shots you take inspires me to become better.
So happy you found our channel Ken! Really happy to hear that this video inspired you :) much love from Berlin!
lots of love from Asia!! keep doing what you're doing
..♥
such a lovely look!! brilliant colors!!
Thank you so much for watching Stanly! Happy Friday
Thanks so much for inspiring me to take up the hobby of shooting film! Looks like you guys had a lot of fun on the trip :)
I'm so so happy we could inspire you to pick up a camera and start shooting film. It's been one of my favorite things we did in 2016 and i can't wait to see what the hobby has in store for us for 2017!!
Love the video's of you're channel. Really relax to watch. But I wanne to say that the color of the photo's are off, this is caused by the scanner. Also try to shoot portra one stop over and if you in an environment like this try to shoot Ektar 100. The colors green and blue are so much better and if you over expose it one stop the skin tone are great.
Keep it up!
I really appreciate the advice Dennis! We're still trying to figure out how to best use our scanner to save the colors as they are shot. - Dana
I love analog photography and please... more films like that. It's great when You show how You make the photo and then how this photo looks already. I've been near our polish sea last week with Portra 160 also, so... Film is not dead!
Thanks so much for watching and commenting! We would love to shoot more videos like this and are planning on shooting at least one every month or so--its a little tricky because they are so time consuming because it takes a week to get the film back, and about 20 hours to edit, but the actual experience is super super fun and its awesome hearing that people are liking them! We're probably going to stick with portra for the next couple videos because its a tricky film and we didn't quite get everything right so it'll be fun to keep exploring the range. Glad to hear your also shooting with portra and bring it back from the dead : )
Yes, I also think that your previous photos from Superia (?) I think, from the first movie were better (I was so impressed of portraits) so I'm afraid of mine, but it doesn't matter. Greetings from Poland :)
Thanks! Yeah, it seemed like it was a lot easier to shoot good portraits versus good landscape shots but I guess different people find different styles harder/easier!
Oh my , i can't wait for summer. Not just the good photo material, but imagine : pack a hammock, a camera , 2 rolls of film, some water , a fishing hook and some line for it , a pack of matches, a knife , and a pan or canister , then ami for the woods and let the magic happen
Hahaha, sounds like quite the summer camping trip!! ---Lou
In love with your videos!! So inspired to shoot on film now
Thank you so much for watching Anya! So happy you found our channel - Dana
I love your channel. You have so much enthusiasm. It reminds me of when I found photography when I was 15 with an Olympus OM20. I still love shooting film now at 48. :-)
Thank you so much for your kind words Max :) So happy to hear that you found our videos and are enjoying them so much. Do you ever develop your own film? That is next on our agenda! Or are you still getting the full experience of dropping off, waiting, and the beautiful (almost christmas morning like experience) of opening the packet with all the developed photos??
Hi, I only recently started developing my own B&W film using a Standing Development with Rodinal. I use a Change Bag to put the film into a Paterson Tank, so no need to have a dark room. For colour film I still let the experts develop for me. I really love developing my own black and white film. Every time I do it I'm really chuffed with myself when I see the film come out of the tank. I think you'll enjoy it :-)
Thanks so much for the tips! We will definitely be giving that a go in the future : ) It seems like the next logical step and a really really cool thing to get into!
Yet another beautiful video! Really enjoying the style of videos you're making. Keep up the great work!!
Thanks so much for watching and commenting! We've also been loving making and editing these new videos so its great to hear you feel the same : ) There will be many more coming in the future--and we've already started planning out next Tuesdays video. Hopefully we can also shoot another film one in the coming weeks since those are super fun, but a little time consuming!
You guys make really great videos! Happy for finding it.. Thanks...
Thanks so much for the nice comment Thiago : ) We just uploaded a new one about Iceland if you're interested! Sorry for the delayed response! --Lou
they turned out so pretty!!! thanks for sharing yet another beautiful video♡
Thanks so much Luisa! Can't wait to have you back in Berlin : ) We're wishing you all the best with you recovery and planning lots of yummy dinners in the near future!!!
I love this! I was trying to decide which camera to get as my first film camera and ended up buying an A-1 because of your other video. I just got it a few days ago and I'm super excited to learn how to use it! It looks like you had an amazing camping trip. I hope you do more videos like these! Keep up the great work!
So glad you liked the videos and were inspired to get a camera! We've been loving our A-1 : ) It seems like its actually a pretty easy camera to use compared to a lot of the older fully manual cameras but theres also a ton of really cool features that we haven't even begun to explore, so hopefully our next video we can shoot fully manual! Hope your having a good week!!
Hi guys! It's me again... ;) (I feel like writing in english right now, idk... )
I just looooove your snippets, they're getting better week by week! And it's crazy how much your interests overlap with mine! I used to be so into photography but sadly I didn't take time for it the last 2 years or so. My trip to the Allgäu this week is gonna be a good way to bring my camera back to life...you two managed to inspire me once AGAIN! Thank you so much!
Also I cannot get over your editing skills!! Especially the "Best Camping Trip of Our Lives" video and last weeks video really blew me away...stunning!
And if all of the above wasn't yet enough: watching your videos just makes me very happy and content and I wish I'd find time to comment more often but instead of that you're just getting my way too long comments every now and then... ;) Thank you for always reading them and especially for answering!
I hope your week has been amazing so far and that life is treating you well :) xxx
Thanks so much for the beautiful comment Lina : ) We love hearing from you! Its perfect timing too with you trip you should definitely give the old camera another go! Sometimes things just fall away and then time passes and eventually you remember you really liked to do something but havent had time for a long time but its still great even in that moment to just come back to old hobbies and give them another chance! I hope your having a great week, and we wish you a beautiful trip : )
I love the grading and shooting style your videos have! Keep killin it guys 👌
Thanks so much! Would love to do a tutorial on this topic soon : ) ---Lou
Wild We Roam quick question, did you ever have shutter issues with your film camera? I have a super old one from 1980 and I think the shutter is sticking.
I just ordered this camera as my first 35mm film camera and this video has made me really excited to get it.thanks also for showing me what the film is like,I had already ordered portra 400 and now I know it has a nice look to it
That's great! We've been super happy with the portra 400 and will probably stick with it for a while because it looks so nice! We've heard from some other photographers that overexposing one stop is the way to shoot it for nicer colors on faces and stuff like that but we haven't tested that out yet. Good luck and happy photographing : )
Большое спасибо за такое чудесное видео , Ребята !
And thank you so much for the comment! So glad you liked it : )
Plant Based Traveler ;)
You guys are very inspiring. I just stumbled upon your channel a few days ago and I ended up subscribing that day, which I usually don't do! When I've watch your videos, I end up grabbing my camera and even just exploring my own backyard. The artistry you two put into your videos is so appreciated. I also think it's incredibly rad that you guys are based in Germany only being in your 20s! Lots of love from a 22 year old Canadian! :) xx
PS - my name is also Dana :D. The first video I watched of yours was How To Shoot Film; I thought your energy was so likeable & when I found out your name was also Dana, I sort of freaked out. :)
Hey Dana!!! It's so rare I meet another person named Dana so hello and welcome to our channel :) So happy to have you here with us. We so appreciate your thoughtful comment and are really excited to hear that they've inspired you to pick up your camera again. Can't wait to share more with you every tuesday. xxxx
I literally just ordered this camera used and I'm so excited to use it!! These videos are a treasure!
That's awesome! I think its actually a pretty common older camera because it was one of the best cameras canon ever made--supposedly--and now they are wayyyy cheaper than they used to be. We've gotten a few comments from people saying they wanted this camera when it first came out but they couldnt afford it and now they're so much cheaper than most of the good digital cameras on the market so I thikn they will make a little comeback : ) Look forward to hearing how your camera adventures go! Keep us posted : )
Continually producing beautiful and interesting videos.
What lens are you using on your 5D? It seems like a good range for daily stuff
Thanks so much! We use a Canon 24-105 f4 that Lou got second hand on KEH for very little : ) It's a pretty versatile lens, but its heavy, and its f4, and with a filter on it you get a nasty vignetting at 24mm, but overall its definitely a great option if you only want to bring one lens along, plus for filming its really nice to have the option of zooming in and out because it gives you a lot more camera moves to work with. As with all the lenses we use though we shoot entirely on manual focus--this one has auto focus but not rolling auto, plus rolling auto never really works so we've kind of just gone fully manual which was a lot harder at first but now its like second nature : ) Hope that helps!
you know, I really do appreciate the quality of your videos
Thank you so much Denis! Really appreciate that :) -Dana
I'm in love with your color grading guys😍
ahh thank you so much javier! so happy to hear that :) - Dana
you guys deserve a million subscribers i love your content.
Hahahaha, thanks for the super nice comment! Maybe one day, right? In any case, we're having lots of fun now, which is the important part anyways ; ) Hope your week is going well!
your channel has made me fall in love with film photography. Im heading to the camera broker tomorrow! Thanks guys
I"m so so happy to read this comment Chris! Hope you've been having some incredible photo adventures this summer :) - Dana
You guys are awesome! I love P160. Keep up the good work.
Hi Jack, thanks for the awesome comment! Already starting up on the next vid : )
Back again with the great editing! Kudos!
:):):) thank you for watching! so nice to see familiar faces in the comments :)
Tolles Video!!
More film photography videos! Love!
We're working on it!! Just ordered all the chemicals to develop at home which will allow us to get back into the hobby so we dont have to pay for expensive developing fees :) Can't wait to share a ton more !
just came back from the same tour of Malerweg, love your pics
& by coincidence, also bought the same camera the next day
glad to have found your channel
So happy you found us too Anthony! Glad you enjoyed this one :) Know the Canon A1 will treat you well - Dana
i got a zenit 122 35mm film camera...it was given to me by one of my relative...I actually learned how to use it thanks to you guys....I mean the technical part...!
What a cool camera! It's great how you can find all sorts of cool old film cameras within your own family because everyone used to have at least 1 camera in the family and nowadays people are really happy to pass them on : ) Glad you were able to learn a little something! We are also still learning because its a long process but its been so fun passing it all on!
I love it when you (Dana) have those quiet moments coming up with what to say on camera. 😅 And you always end up saying something warm! (Q - I'm trying to be better at kinetic typography and vegan cooking at the moment! )🌱
aw adi you're too sweet. thank you for the nice comment and for reading my description :):) seriously makes me so excited to learn more about you :) as for kinetic typography holy cow i just googled it and that looks so interesting and complicated. how are you teaching yourself?? what programs? and yay for vegan cooking!!
Oh wow this video made me really want to try film! Great job on the video!
Hahaha, thanks for the beautiful comment! Go for it ; )
Such an amazing place! I love the way the colors turn up in film photography. I have a Canon AE-1 Program and I know each time I take out, it os going to be special :) Another amazing video by the way!
Thanks so much for watching and commenting! We feel the exact same way about this camera : ) There's something about shooting film that makes you remember the actual experience of taking photos so much more for some reason, and then on top of that you can get these printed photos to look back on which is really special. It'll be even more fun in a couple years to look back on all these old rolls and then get to rewatch the videos as well. Hope your week is going well!
couldn't wait. amazing as usual!
Hahaha, thanks for waiting! The film videos take a lot longer to edit so we don't usually finish them until Tuesday evening even though our goal is always to have videos done on Monday night, but this guy was another 20 hour edit... : ) But we're glad you liked it and having been having a blast reading all these awesome comments!
Answer: i'm also learning more about photography & such! And this type of videos gives me a boost of motivation 😊
So glad you got motivated from this video!! We always try and make videos that inspire people to go out and tackle some project or hobby or whatnot, but its really awesome hearing from people like you that its all working : )
I don't know how i stumbled upon your channel but I'm glad I did, I subscribed almost immediately!
Hahaha, thats awesome! Thanks so much for watching and subscribing : ) Glad to have you along! These film videos seem like they are a little more googleable so that seems to be bring more people in which has been really fun to watch : )
Just stumbled upon your videos now after watching videos about using film cameras and now this is my new favorite channel (and I'm also now inspired and motivated to try and learn film!) :D
Ahhh this makes me so happy :) i just think its so cool to hear how different people stumble onto the channel and then to have them be inspired by our videos too - well thank you so much for sharing that with us Monica! just made my day :)
Aw that's great! After watching all of your videos that involves the Canon A-1, I took a couple days to think about it and I just HAD to get it. Got an email this morning saying my camera is on its way and I'm beyond excited! I hope you guys have more film videos coming up soon! Keep up the great content, I love it :D
I got my first 35mm film camera the other day and I've been binge watching you're videos because your photos are absolutely beautiful! How to transfer them into a video may I ask? Do you just scan them in?
Hi Elizabeth! Thanks so much for watching :) I'm so happy that you enjoyed this video!!! Was one of my favorite trips we've ever done. As for how we get them into the computer, we scan them! We actually made a video about the whole process - ua-cam.com/video/K-mfS7HGrrk/v-deo.html Hope that helps!!
i really love the tone of your video ❤
love iT!! and the color grading in the video is amazing!
:) Thank you so much for watching!
fantastic video guys! I've recently been to the seaside and I'm looking forward to have my photos developed
Thanks for watching and commenting! Hope your photos turn out well! We've had a couple mishaps but are starting to really get the hang of things now!
Your videos are so cool! They are so well made and fun to watch. Thumbs up!
I also discovered the old Mamiya ZM camera of my mom and started shooting with it and it's just awesome, so different to digital. I take more time to take a photo and I also choose more wisely what I want to photograph and in the end I've got something in my hand and not just another file on my harddrive.
Thanks so much for watching! That Mamiya sounds really cool : ) That's exactly why we got into film! No harddrive messssss ; ) Plus it feels a little like meditating, walking around with this old metal device and nothing else.
Yeah it's a wonderful camera!
My words, just me and my camera. :)
HI,
I watched your first video and now the 2nd one on film cmera. I am fascinated why young people are thrilled with using film cameras. When I was younger I couldn't afford a camera like Canon A1 or AE1 and now they are dirt cheap. I enjoyed watching both of your videos, after the first one I got myself a quality film body plus a few high quality lenses. The images are really good comparatively and the look is different from digital images.
Watching this video I think your photo taking techniques can be improved and you can easily improved by applied what you learned from taking images from digital camera by using them in manual/aperture/shutter priority mode and how to control the exposure.
Looking forward to watching your next video. Cheers from down under.
Thanks so much for watching! It seems like theres a ton of young people getting into film--I think partly because its possible now to get awesome old cameras like the A1 for a lot less money so in comparison to a really nice new digital camera its a good option, but also I think the experience is just so much more enjoyable, especially now that a lot of cell phones have really really good cameras it seems like it makes more sense to just get a nice cell with a camera and then have your second camera be a film camera because then yyou get to have the best of both worlds : ) Plus people just throw old film filters on their digital photos so why not just go back to the source!? Also thanks for the photography tips! We definitely have a LOT to learn : ) But thats part of the fun, right? Hope your having a good week!
Love this video! Really amazing editing and you guys seem really cool :)
Thank you so much for watching Tess :) I'm so happy you found us and enjoyed the video. Can't wait to share more with you next week xxx
loving this second video on 35mm! nice photos & video editing. I just completed my fifth episode of film photography shooting with a Nikon F3, just to share wth you guys. it's one man operated though you can only see Sabah, Malaysia from my POV haha. Continue shooting with film, shoot film not bullets.
Thanks for sharing! We haven't done too much black and white photography but it seems like we would enjoy it a lot and hopefully can work that into one of our videos in the future : )
I have the same enthusiasm when I shoot film, I'm like a kid in a candy or toy store. hehe.. I get surprisingly sad too whenever I get to the end of my roll, especially when I am not expecting it to be done already, hehe.. Lovely video you guys! keep up with the film episodes!
It really is so sad when the roll ends before you realize!! It's like reaching for one more bite and realizing you finished your meal :( Thank you for watching!! So glad you found our channel :)
I found your channel through Ed Pavez's. I know i'm a stranger, but congrats on your recent wedding! cheers and happy shooting!
The A1 is a dope camera, FD lenses are worth the money - probably best beside olympus om. great shots guys!
It really is!! Been treating us so well - i actually haven't shot a roll in a month or so.... got to get back into it!
