Prince made music from the late 70's till his death in 2016. 2 of my fav live performances were: 2007 superbowl halftime show (purple rain in the rain & a bit of foo fighters) & 2008 cover of Radiohead's Creep at coachella. There's dozens more, but you could start there!😊
The 80's was the best era of music. It had every style and flavor that will suit you. Prince's music spanned over 5 consecutive decades 70's, 80's, 90's, 00', 10's. Also had thousands of unreleased songs that could put out 3 albums a year for the next 100 years. Phenom. Modern day Mozart. Liv4luv 0(+->
Prince was the greatest artist in terms of overall talent in the entirety of the rock and roll era. Like him or his music or not. He may not have been THEE BEST at ANYTHING but he was unquestionably and without legitimate contest, ONE OF THEE GREATEST AT NEARLY EVERYTHING! Entertainer, band leader, singer, guitarist, bassist, drummer, piano & keys, songwriter, record producer, dancer, brilliant business acumen and fiercely independent. Truly the most widely known and successful cult artist in music history. Outside of his heyday era between the mid 80s and 90s he was a critical and commercial darling with a loyal and large cult following. MJ was the King of Pop Prince was a Rockstar of the highest order who also mastered Pop. As well as infusing psychedelic rock and soul, R&B, New Wave, Funk, Fusion, Jazz, Prog, Hip Hop and Folk into a singular sound. His own music genre. Purple music. He sold over 150 million records that he solely wrote and produced for himself and many others. Also won an Oscar and directed several theatrical movies and one of the widely considered greatest concert films ever made based on his masterpiece album, Sign O’ The Times. Prince held the artistic high ground of the 80s the way Stevie Wonder and Bowie did in the decade prior. ♊️♊️♊️
This was when he was at his creative peak in 1984 with his band The Revolution. Purple Rain is my favourite album all time. You should watch the movie in glorious 4K too.
My guess (without looking it up) is that "Purple Rain" was probably the top Prince song. That was from the same album as this song and the movie by the same name. Yes, MJ and Prince were pop royalty rivals during the same time period in the 80s. Would totally recommend doing a reaction to Prince super bowl halftime show. Epic live performance!
Purple Rain only made it to #2 on Billboard. Let's Go Crazy and When Doves Cry (his biggest hit) both made it to #1. The only other song off this album to chart was I Would Die for You which peaked at #8
They were never rivals you cant even compare the 2 that rivalry stuff was made up by the magazines who were just looking to sell there magazines that's all in actuality they were friends. Prince took MJs death very hard he canceled his concert that night and locked himself in his room for hours. Peace.
@@tommtommkin Industry rivals can still be personal friends and have mad respect for one another just like sports rivals. What I meant was that they were both competing for top spots on the charts, awards, record sales, etc. They are both amazing in their own way.
Prince is the greatest performer I've ever seen and I've seen most of the 80's and 90s greats. He's one of the 2 or 3 full package artists in all of music history. He taught himself to play over 20 instruments wrote thousands of songs, was an amazing lyricist and dancer and wrote number one hits for other artists too. He was a legendary ladies man and his love life is infamous. He was extremely sensual/sexual especially early in his career I'd check out 1999 next. It's the title track from the album right before Purple Rain. It's very funk/rock/new wave and was released in 1982. This is still played HEAVILY on New Years Eve. Someone posted that the song you were thinking about was I'm a believer by the monkeys but I believe that freeze frame by j geils is a little more accurate.
Gen x here this is smack in the middle of the 80's. My teen years was full of music. In fact, it was normal for teens to mumble/sing songs in between classes as we were walking down the school hallway and opening our lockers. I would turn on MTV while doing my homework after school. And I blamed that for my c+ average and not making the honor roll.
He was 5ft 3inches. This was released in 1984. KISS came out in 1987 and was his most successful chart tipping single, but I wouldn’t call it his best. He had sooo many good songs!
@ The Carver county medical examiner recorded his height at 5ft 3in and 112 pounds. You can find the report on the internet. Sad, but it’s an accurate statement that we KNOW for sure that he was 5 feet 3 inches ( and 100% genius) 💜. RIP O(+>
Prince and MJ where the same age (and Madonna too). MJ was more family friendly and Prince is the “R” rated musician/singer. Prince was more creative and challenging musically and lyrically than MJ. Prince changed his sound with each new album in the 80’s. MJ released 3 albums in the 80’s (2 solo and 1 Jackson 5). Prince released around 22 albums under his name and various bands he created in the 80’s to get his music out to the public. MJ was and is more popular with the public; where as with musicians and critics Prince reigns supreme. The MJ song “bad” was offered as a duet with Prince. Prince didn’t think the music interpretation of the song was presented in being “bad” and didn’t like that aspect. Decline to do it and told MJ that it was hit and that it didn’t need him on it. Prince also didn’t like the line “your butt is mine.” He had problem with it; because I ain’t saying that to him and he sure ain’t going to say that to me.
Dude my man is NOT 5'1 he WAS 5'4 according to the autopsy report. He dose NOT look anything AT all like Michael Jackson never did never will. They were both born in 1958 and they knew each other. When MJ died, 7 years before Prince died, Prince took it very very hard, I believe he canceled his concert for that night he was that upset. You are seeing just a snip it in time Princes career started when he was just a kid. The first time I ever laid eyes on him I was 15 back in 1979 with his video and song I Want To Be Your Lover... I fell head over heels right then and there and have loved him ever since. He has written thousands upon thousands of songs not just for himself either but for other artists for movies, go look up Batman plus others. Go look him up at his live concerts where he took what he had written and recorded decades before and re wrote some of those songs only for them to sound even better then when he recorded them. Go look for the concert he did in 2013 at Montreux he did a 3 night stay with Jazz the first 2 nights and rock the 3rd night. Go look up the concerts he did at Montreux in 2009 too. The younger generations have no clue what they really missed when it comes to Prince and that's not just his name its his description too! By the way... Prince was just inducted into the Song Writers Hall Of Fame, something he wanted more then any other award too! It happened only months ago. His sister who was his full sister just died too a few weeks ago. He did it ALL and did everything better then anyone else. He was exceptionally intelligent too and he was a good man an ace when it came to business played every kind of instrument gave freely of his time his attention and his money... there was never anyone better and there will never be another one like him ever again either. Peace.
No, “Kiss” is not his most famous. Please try a little research. I’d have to disagree with a previous commenter. Yes the 80’s was when Prince was everywhere. He won an academy award for “Purple Rain…the Soundtrack was winning multiple awards…The 90’s was an amazing transition for him…”The Gold Era, Emmancipation, Love Symbol” Eras. However, the 2000’s were also very impactful…”21 Nights,” his Montreux Jazz Performances, Musicology, Third Eye Girl, and of course his final Piano and a Microphone performances” Each legendary …iconic but in no way comparable. BTW never try to compare Prince and Michael . Prince was a genre all of himself.
