Media has become a big curse in India these days.. When I was a student in India, the only newspaper that I read was the Hindu and they presented scientific information in simple terms that can be comprehended by the reader with little science background. But these days, in every news media, newspaper is a bundle of junk info about celebrities and useless stuff.. Surely the news media has become a curse on India...

SPEED IS IRRELEVANT IF WE ARE GOING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION....Pachauri's questions & Panelists answers makes sense. The real change would be possible if the media & educational institutes portray the benefits of research and political system & industry need to pamper students aspirations by providing a sustainable career.
Today every other student pursues Engineering or Medicine as if there are no other areas of profession. Ever realized what would happen if there is a strict law barring outsourcing by western countries?
Arts & Humanitarian degrees are among the least pursued. Bright students from IITs want a job in Finance by going for MBA....what are they contributing to this country with their knowledge acquired in IIT?

It is a good debate to know about something, it is the time to improve our education system, it is the time to invest so much amount on our Indian software, it is the time to improve our agricultural software and it is the time to encourage students towards research and finally it is the time to educate and motive our-self to useful to our India.

Thankyou, conduct more programs like this. After 9 years what are the changes we come across. Scientists are not coming out of labs and libraries and not solving much social issue. We are not putting concern in education 85% of student population donot have a vision and is learning only for getting good marks in exam. Sports is not getting priority. All competitive exams have high registration fees. Fees in all national institutions ( iits, iiser, etc) are high. Students are not doing research as a service. 90% of student population is not talking anything about the problems faced by our country. Schools and colleges are only concered about exams getting good marks and becoming happy with that. We have hope with remaining 10% and we all should work together to increase that number. Another important problem is we are not giving equal importance to all jobs. All jobs and not concerned equal. We all can contribute to the world.

This brought me a smile amid choas of last few years. A sublime discussion. But, seeing their hopes and dreams here I am afraid they would be disappointed if they look at this summit discussion now for India has moved regressive rather scientific.

The conclusion of the mediator was 100% unscientific. Scientific temper is not coming from DNA. Mostly it is an acquired comprehension getting through the process of accumulation of knowledge by time.

Hmm, I know about the three scientitsts (Venkataraman, CNR Rao, MS swaminathan). They have a lot of scientific contributions, several publications and awards, Its unfortunate that I coudn't find any publications of the "brilliant computer scientist" N Chandrasekaran of TCS.

This discussion has participants & panel provoking discrimination based on the region. And the other issue is they are speaking about online education, GMOs and all sorts of obsolete technology or that is already available & currently in use. Where is the VISION?
How are we supposed to take something out of these discussion where the very people who are lagging behind are speaking about technological advancements. Open your eyes & see how other countries are rocketing while you spend more time in regional politics & bias.
The only scientist who seems to have an insight & vision is Dr. Venkatraman.

NDTV and Pronoy Roy always focus more on the 'good times' & things in life, contrary to what other news houses such as Republic TV do. The result is quite clear - popularity of the news channel vis-a-vis the popularity of the topics that it covers.
