My sweet baby girl 👼🏽couldn't nurse due to this. She was not a severe case, we had to feed her with a syringe then worked up to a bottle. However I used pump and that was good enough for me. She is a healthy and hungry teenage girl now😘
Many babies (especially preemies) are born not knowing how to suck and have to be taught. My daughter (a preemie who is now 38) was one of those babies. She stayed in the hospital an additional 2 weeks longer than I did. Because I wasn't there from 10:00 to 5:00, she was fed with my breast milk but using a bottle. After that, it was very difficult to switch over to breast feeding. My son, who was born a year later had no issues 🤷. Go figure....... boys 😁
You're my favorite person on the internet! Thank you so much for sharing such a wealth of information. My IBCLC told us to do stretches and suck training but didn't show us how 😂
This baby boy is absolutely gorgeous. Calm, intelligent and curious despite being stretched and helped to suck so that he can feed. Bless his sweet heart. Marvellous practitioner who inspires trust and happy times for baby boy. Xxxx👏🤗
What causes sudden weak suction in babies. Like my girl is going to be 3 months and she had a good latch and suck strength. She went through a phase of bottle aversion and we changed her bottle and after sometime she now has very poor suction and gags when I put my finger on her roof. Also she isn’t breastfeeding properly. Taking too long to take bottle as well.
There are a few reasons for this. Undiagnosed tongue tie can be one. I would recommend scheduling an appointment to discuss it further. Lalactation.com to book
What if they gag really close to front of the roof of mouth. Like no matter how little amount of my finger goes in she gags... so she has a really shallow latch she had both releases done at 6 weeks
Did this baby have a tie? Are these exercises done post or pre procedure? Will they help baby that is tongue tied but hasn't had a release procedure? Mine is 14 weeks old and hasn't had it revised, curious if this will help him.
Nope. This baby had a tongue tie and was using the tongue incorrectly. This baby needed to have exercises to retrain the tongue to correctly move for feeding.
About how long does it take for this to help them latch? My baby is 14 weeks old 7 weeks post frenectomy. Wanting to do this and I’m going to start taking her to a chiropractor next week. Her latch is still shallow
My little guy had his tongue released after delivery and now is 4 weeks old. He just started with a shallow latch a couple weeks ago. Should we do these exercises to help with getting a deeper latch? We don't have access to anyone in our area that is a certified to help.
My almost 4 old month is not accepting the bottle, she's lost the sucking reflex, will these exercises help her learn how to suck the bottle nipple? Thanks for the video!
I do provide bottle feeding consultations to work on strategies to help baby accept a bottle. If you have a PPO insurance plan a consultation may be free. Go to www.lalactation.com for more information
I could watch for hours. I loved the little dark haired newborn they were exercising to get the baby to poop. It was interesting. I think the babies like it.
Yup. Evolution, genetics and environmental factors have contributed to an increase in tongue and lip ties which contribute to incorrectly sucking and swallowing. This baby had ties that were not allowing the mouth to move correctly for efficient feeding and needed to relearn how to use the tongue before and after release.
Historically babies who didn’t feed well died…. Hence high infant mortality rates that didn’t allow for certain anatomical issues to be passed down genetically. We’re saving babies smaller and with more issues because of science and technology and are seeing new issues that we can actually treat now.
@@supersil75 Hi, I'm a pediatric occupational therapist. Of course, for most babies this is not a necessary intervention. There are also many babies that end up with NG tubes, G-tubes, malnourished, developmentally delayed, and never learning the skill of eating by mouth if an intervention by skilled professionals is not done. Unless you are in the world of pediatric healthcare I would avoid giving out this potentially harmful opinion to anyone whose children are having difficulty feeding.
I work with about 300 of them every year that don’t know how to suck on a bottle or are having difficulty latching to the breast. So yes, millions of babies don’t need these exercises, but for the ones that do, these are exercises that can help.
@@lalactation I'm not that good in English but I hope you understand me. I did fix the problem with the tongue of my baby girl clinically. Do I have to apply these exercises even after surgery?

No he was struggling to eat.

I remember way back when bew moms were taught basic care and if nursing you werent allowed to leave unless you and your baby has nursing down
Just love watching this cutie just want to snuggle him. Psalm 127 what a GIFT 🙏👶🥰

Hi were you able to fix this issue? I am facing the same with my girl. She is 3 months.
I would be grateful if you could help with this. I am in India and we don’t have occupational therapist here. So please help with what to do?

How often we should do this in a day for 4 months old baby?
For maximal oral motor training it’s usually done 3-5 times a day, usually before tummy time when baby is in a happy mood

Any advice on how to get a baby (3 months) to do suck training when they refuse to suck on a finger?
Help please! I have a 5 month old daughter who will not let me into her mouth for suck training. What can I do? Do I just keep trying?
No. At that age you’d focus on chewing instead of sucking. Email me to Lalactation@gmail.com and I’ll send you resources for that age
