Those 500's were about 90hp I think, when they came out in that S-chassis in 96 a feller that knew about grass drags took one and won the 500 stock class at the Haydays grass drags in Minnesota and then proceeded to move up and also win the 600 stock class too, that got peoples attention.
love those Rotax engines, I had an Elan and a 9500 blizzard, tough . I think Elan means "beat on me more" because we beat on that thing and it lasted 20 years, had to replace an ignition coil once, the engine never blew up
Our Elan was welded, patched and stitched until it was more beat down than the losing horse. My dad yanked out the little rotax and slammed it in another sled for me to beat up and yeah just a carb clean every couple years and ignition once.
Can't remember what the wires are for but the plug that was supposed to be there allowed for accessories like electric start, heated grips etc. Instead of having different harnesses for different versions of the machine, it's cheaper to make one harness that fits all and only plug in what you need. Those formulas were basically all the same. They saved manufacturing cost by using the basic frame for as many models as possible.
@@rednecksdirtyhands I’d love to see that…I’m redoing a 96 ZRT 600 right now and I think the seal is out on her…bad news for me. Any advice on how the hell to get the seal plate screws off without stripping the heads? 😂
Pretty fun to watch your videos😂. That's a nice wiring work on that Rotax 500👍 I had a good laugh but that 500 does seem to have alot of low-end torque. Keep up the great learning content👍
Great Observation and correct, '96 was the first year with SLS, "97 saw the Formula 500 no Rave Valves and in "98 saw the Formula 500 get the Rave Valves and the flames removed from the Decal.
That was the voltage regulator...nothing to do with spark. Should run without it hooked up...but will burn out all the lights then. Those tethers cause a lot of no spark issues.
My buddy tipped his 97 form 500 onto its side while it was running. It shut off and never started again. Tried cleaning the carbs and clearing cylinders. Any idea on what could be the issue?
Hey Pete! I was hoping you could potentially message me about a snowmobile that needs a fix. I trust you more than the repair shop that "repaired" it the first time.
well to start ya need the trifecta of spark fuel and compression...so if ya got the spark then move on and check the compression and fuel supply. hope that helps! 🍻
So my Super sport 550 Fan Runs and rips mint for a good leg of a ride, but after taking a 10 or 15 minute trail break, she'll fire right up but seems like if I don't feather the throttle before getting on her again , seems to want to stall. Any suggestions or maybe a fix before the next run in a couple weeks? Much appreciated dude.
Good work Pete ! Love seeing these old sleds back running !!!
Red wire goes back to the battery to charge it. For sleds with electric start

Your "beer break " looks as genuine as Elizabeth Warrens beer break in her cheesy campaign video
Love the videos boys cant WAIT for part 3 of the ZRT!
thanks 🍻, we might have to do some grass drags with it for part 3 now that all of our snow is gone 🤔 lol.

Looks like one of the wires was for the tach. Another great video.
That's actually a 98 formula 500. 97s did not have the rave valves.

Another great video.
Wrap a rope around the clutch to spin it over when the recoil is off...or snapped 100km from home😪
Great idea with the rivet in the gas cap..
Was the tach working?
thanks! I honestly don't remember if it was working or not....🤔 will have to check 🍻
It’s a voltage regulator. Also the tach wasn’t working
Another great video! Summer is coming so how about doing some outboard motor fixes?
Great videos !,
thanks 🍻
Just bought one of these with 5,800 km .were these a reliable motor? Never had a 500 liquid cool.had the 583 and the 670.
yeah with regular maintenance and good fuel/oil and clean carbs they are good 🍻

A Ski doo with wiring problem NAAAAA!! !
I have a 96 formula 500 deluxe, it has spark but will not start. Any suggestions?

Rivet was a good idea
Where abouts is that regulator located I can't find my sled
on this one it was just dangling under the recoil lol 🤣 I'm sure it's supposed to be mounted somewhere properly though! 🍻
Bigger the gob better the job on that there gas cap.
can you do a full checkup on any snowmobile at cost,
yessir! 🍻
As always love video. Btw you have any 297 ski doo primary clutch weights? You guys Rock
sorry we don't have any weights for those, but thanks for watching 🍻
