My Father saw Melchior with Leider in this in 1931 at Covent Garden conducted by Furtwangler, also in 1937 Melchior and Flagstad conducted by Beecham .
The cool part is, it's not particularly difficult. Very I-IV-V-I (C major,) structure and not quick shifts-- but yes, maintain full volume and let it rip!
I am sorry but the chorus, which although it may have had a good sound was not very unified with the orchestra and they were in another sense, lifeless in such a joyful scene....they were just standing there...I am very disappointed in most of this except with KING and LUDWIG, who were glorious!

It is the best performance/recording of Fidelio which I know. Specially the part "Oh namenlose Freude" is only wonderful
This was a wonderfully cast production. A real treasure, thanks so much for uploading.
I love this master piece
Ludwig is my favorite Leonore and King one of the best Florestans... exceeded by Vickers interpretively perhaps but by no one in voice.
Wonne!!!

The word weib meant something once.

only one small complaint, did one of the horns have a sock in it at the very end? lol

I wonder how many in the cast found their larynx on the floor after singing that...
