MY most memorable time in WoW was as a warlock in Vanilla, when i had to do the quest to summon the dreadlord. It was a ''secret'' quest. You had to actually find the scrolls/or book page, and then fight demons until you get the information, and they were unique demons super strong. they were lvl 63 elites if i remember while the max was 60. Only good warlock had the summon. And it was so strong. Once summoned he was an ennemy and you had to subjugate it. you could only have control over him for a time. And after you had to kill him. But boy was it doing a lot of dps. Infernals were also locked behind a quest. It made warlock feel very special. Even your dread steed was a quest and you need people to do it. Nothing will ever beat Vanilla wow.
That remind me when you summon Infernal in Crossroads and then just give him free will. He started running around killing all the low lvl players :D What a great times.
FYI the quest also gave hunters a unique quiver. I remember doing this quest and the lack of information on what to do was quite a challenge, it didn't even tell you where to go.
Ok, I spent years in wow being a fan of its mysteries, places and basically everything that seems strange to me, but in my life within Azeroth I found out about this guy, and that in Classic I played a hunter! It's incredible how regardless of the years, this game never ceases to surprise me. Thank you very much for bringing this information into my life :,3 If I still made content, rest assured I would pass it on to my language (es) mentioning you so that more people know about this!
I'm still fuming that Blizz didn't make the hunter bow and staff the weapons of choice for Legion. Instead we got a gun for BM's which should have been for MM and then MM got the bow which should have been for BM. I will never forget this.
I got an HD version of the bow from The Mage Tower during Legion on my MM hunter. Just thought i should let you know. The HD version was the Mage Tower reward for MM back then.
@@josejuanandrade4439 Ugh, what a joke. Why would MM use a bow? When you think of a marksman, you think of a high powered rifle or pistol. BM is about being silent and stalking your prey... but then let's fire a fucking gun at the animals.
100% disagree, gun for BM makes more sense, like a hunter with their rifle and trusty hunting companion. And a master marksman with a bow, chef's kiss.
I’m glad I got my benediction staff but my paladin friend who came to watch thought he could cleanse one of the escaping npcs which spawned the cleaner and it was a disaster until the next quest giver respawn several hours later. Was a hard lesson but fun ❤
I did the Benediction quest chain during TBC. As I recall it, you were allowed NO outside assistance during the Stratholme escape quest, and that included non-Priest buffs. If memory serves, we weren't even allowed mana potions. The whole point of the quest was to test the priest's spell downranking skill.
My priest had the anathema. Also I skinned the best from Upper Black Rock Spire to tailor myself a hat with +2% crit. Along with other items I had so much crit chance I could compete with mages in raids as DPS (barely but still). And while I vividly remember playing WITH anathema, I have absolutely ZERO recollection of the quest itself. It is so strange, because the quest line was hard enough I required constant guild help to just find out WHERE to go next. Vanilla was such a gem. I wanted to play a little bit earlier, so bought US version, instead of EU, and joined a guild with most guys from Norway and other scandinavian countries, so we had similiar time zone. What a wonderful people they were. I haven't met a better guild in any game since.
Crit was pretty bad for SP (compared to mages/locks) as your main damaging spells couldn't crit, only mind blast could, which is a big part of the reason SP didn't scale as well going into later content as the other casters. They could keep up with mages in early content because they had a huge 10% hit from talents and decent base damage.
You can help the priest with standing at max distance and healing the NPCs just before they despawn, we did that on vanilla and classic in priest groups of 5, 1 doing the Q and the rest healing. The Q is trivial that way.
It just uses the death animation of dreadlord. While a regular dreadlord leaves behind his armor upon defeated, the cleaner leaves behind some stone shards, which are technically the recolored armor part of the dreadlord model.
So many great quests and other things in the old world that were simply 'removed' in Cataclysm, replaced with quests and changes that aged far worse, for short term benefits. You could probably count on one hand, at best, the things worth talking about from the revamped zones, dungeons, etc.
Tbf, this guy was only ever designed as a measure to prevent people from helping others with those quests. Blizz could have also just insta killed anyone who tried to help but decided to make it a little more fun with a special NPC. it would be essentially the same as a GM summoning a giant murloc as a boss.
On turtle wow you can become Inferno (at lvl 55 you get offered a quest you need to do before 60 which has you go through around 8+ dungeons) and are killable at 60; if you dont do this quest you will ding 60 and get the Immortal title but become ironically, mortal. One time i saw a 60 Inferno Shaman die to the Cleaner in the Plaguelands 😮 the server went nuts.
i saw "The Cleaner" and just knew i had to watch and enjoy the nostalgia. though i DID find ways to help my friends and even the other faction without triggering The Cleaner while dealing damage to their quest mobs.
Cataclysm made that final step(TBC and Wotlk made first few) where game lost critical number of unique features and became primarily new players and raid loggers friendly. Also, Cata was point on WoW timeline where all classes had all abilities just under different names. No abilities were certain class exclusive, so it was almost same if you play shaman, druid or paladin. It became generic, too forgiving, easier, with constant updates only in cosmetics, not in content.
Still have Rhok'delar on an incredibly old hunter character. I had no idea he could be kited to capital cities. Not sure how they accomplished that with something that moved that fast and was completely unstoppable, but if there's a will, there's a way!
You don't kite The Cleaner himself, you kite the demons from the hunter quests, then when you get to the city, you have someone interfere and The Cleaner then spawns inside the city
Man I was stuck on that quest until I finally got my dps high enough after spending dkp i didn't want to spend on the blunderbuss from MC. I wanted to be first in my guild with it and another hunter was close on my heels. got it first tho!
Once I running through Burning Steppes on my lock, something I’d done many times, there was this demon standing next to the road, as I ran past, bammo! one shot me. I don’t know if it was The Cleaner or the hunter’s demon. I wondered what the demon does once the hunter is dead or just gives up leaving the demon standing there.
That's one thing I think blizzard made a big mistake with is getting rid of class quests, as a warlock I remember the chains to go get my pets it was fucking annoying traveling all over azeroth for my pets but when i got the pet it made everything worth it to me.
I swear, hunters are the most op class because of blizzards oversight and glitches. Like in sod, hunters were op who had the scorpion pet before it got nerfed into the ground. Before that, the class design meant all weapons could be used by hunters so new players would just need on melee weapon drops lol.
It wasnt impossible for other players to help the priest on the Benediction quest. I got help from a guildie mage using blizzard to kill the mobs. The trick is for the other person to be in position before starting the quest and then dont move just use blizzard on the area. He wont see the mobs, but they would take damage.
The Cleaner. I had fun with that by kiting said demon npc's to places where I wanted them such as Gadgetstan or Orgrimmar, at which point players could not resist the urge to attack them, at which point multiple cleaners would spawn. This worked best with my warlock with the Ungoro one as you could banish her and simply kite the dog, then hopefully get a banish on the dog when you got to where you were going before anyone killed it because this would cause more and more cleaners to appear as more and more players hit the now immune dog thanks to the banish. As for geting it to die, my mage was good for that when mirror image got added in wotlk. Cast mirror images then a quick invisibility as you killed the demon, multiple cleaners would spawn for you and each mirror image (two for each mirror image at first due to a bug where the mirror images briefly appeared as shades) which would hang around until they expired then died.
that death animation for the cleaner looks very unique! I don't think anything in vanilla wow has that death animation. Would anyone else know otherwise? Normal dread lords just leave behind their armor, not black shards! To top it off, that thing is supposed to be unkillable. Did we just witness an entirely unique death animation that was technically never meant to be seen at all?
If he was immune to melee then why not get a warlock to tank him? Demonology warlocks with armour buffs can take a lot of damage - Just have a few extra on hand in case they get crit/crushed to death
The reason why The Cleaner is so powerful - and why he appears when you fight those demons with a pet or a group - is because he is actually High Overlord Saurfang's force ghost. He has cleverly disguised him with a name change, making him be "The Cleaner" instead of "The Cleaver" so that nobody suspects it's Saurfang, and now he uses this force ghost to punish normie hunters and stupid priests.
