I’m having the same problem except I’m the one who wants to move to the south and my wife and I are living up in Washington state. She’s been here all her life and I’ve been to several states in my lifetime. She’s very hesitant and timid just like this fellow with his wife. While their reasons are debt related, my wife and I don’t have much debt other than old school loans which we are doing just fine on. But we are having a baby, and it’s our first one. My parents live in the south and migrated there from Washington and want us to join them out that way. They want to help us take care of the baby without having to pay child support and being in a state without any family support. I’m all for the change and she’s very unsure of herself. I agree with the wife on this call, go move dude. Get the heck out of Utah, you can always come back
I live in Salt Lake City. Been trying to get out for a while too. It's all up to preference. Where is your home? That's where you are used to being. This clip is about money and home. He's used to living here AND he's rollin' financially and feeling good. It's a tough time to want to make a change.
They should get enough money from selling the house to move and clear all debt. Housing is going insane here. Try renting, its outrageous. I wish I had a house to sell.
He’d do just fine anyway in the south, he can keep contributing to his stupid 401k there just as much. He was worried for nothing. This is the thing about people who have never lived anywhere else in their life, they think they can’t have a better lifestyle somewhere else because of their own biases of only One location.
DO NOT STOP investing in the 401k under any circumstances, regardless of what is owed on the HELOC. Invest up to the maximum company match and throw the rest at paying off the HELOC. Stop investing altogether and you will never retire regardless of what Dave and these guys say. DO NOT leave free money on the table at work. You will pay for it later in life thousands of times over.
Good grief fella, the HELOC goes when you sell the house, you learn to save using the baby steps and Dave’s plan, the cost of living in another state will be lower so the pay is not an issue, go! Go now! There will be great kids to teach wherever you go.
I’ve lived in the south(Florida, Georgia) grew up in Utah(and currently live there) and other states as well. Not gonna lie, Utah’s nice, but if I get the opportunity to move back to Florida, I’m taking it! Sure miss that southern feel and the weather.

And aside from the religion deal, you have people from California and Nevada moving here inflating the real estate prices. Making it hard for working class people to buy or even rent in Utah. Huge opioid crisis. Many people here are on drugs. Utah ain't perfect
Don’t think moving to the South will be cheap. Plenty of cities in the south are plenty pricey. Do your homework. Southern living is not as slow as you think. Not unless your are out in the country in the deep South.
I’m really bothered that they automatically sided with the wife. Sounds like they need marital counseling more than financial counseling if you ask me. The husband is making decent money for a shop teacher-if he moved to Texas and especially NC-his pay cut would be significantly lower. Yes, the cost of living is lower but for his profession and what he’s making in Utah-moving to the south just doesn’t make sense. With their budget, they’d end up living in a rural area way outside of town and it would be a HUGE cultural shock for her. Gf needs to be happy with what she’s got since she has decided not to have a full time job-that’s the tea. Moving your entire family because of your ‘feelings’ is absolutely absurd. Maybe one day they can retire in the south.
Has anyone considered if she’s concerned about the community pressure placed on the children to convert to the LDS as they enter junior high and high school?
My frustration is I already live in Utah, grown up here my whole life, but the people flooding in from communist California are ruining it all for us. Driving house prices up and taking up space.
I think it depends on the district in Texas. Some district in houston pays well, like Katy! Don’t overpay for a Texas house though. Katy TX have great schools for your kiddos
Or don't Texas my Utah on tbe back and don't California my Utah on the front. And don't honk at everything when driving here, we give it a hot second before honking on the horn.
I think his response was unnecessarily blunt, but I think of college as an "extra" not necessarily something that is expected. I would say of my good friends about 10-15 of us went to college, none of our parents paid for it, we're all doing well. Don't get me wrong, I'll be in a position where all of my kids will be able to go to college debt-free and I'm very happy about that. But wouldn't look down on anyone who doesn't/can't help their kids. I think of college no different than any other investment you make as an adult.
She may have said too many Mormons, but if she misses the South, it has nothing to do with Mormons. She probably is sick of the snow and cold and is just plain homesick. The South is a culture like no other. I miss it too sometimes.
5:20 SMH, that's ridiculous."you can't think about compound interest when you should have thought about it a lot sooner". Ha yeah come on no thanks. With the job he described and the company paying 10% into his 401k, that is awesome. Know if the debt is really high, then that is it serious question, but I wouldn't necessarily just jump at the move.
Such poor advice, really arrogant to say if he was worried about something he should’ve done it sooner. The man is uncomfortable and the sole breadwinner! He is finally getting into managing his personal finances and y’all throw move to Georgia, your relationship has issues, and you’ve presented a false narrative at him at the same time! Definitely hard to see Dave making the same brutal pitch, save for suggesting he pay down the HELOC.

Will move later, at retirement. The bulk of my money is tied up in 401k's, IRA's and 529's anyway. By then my daughter will be out of college, and come home to somewhere else. I do not want her living/settling in the northeast. That's basically my mission in life. To uproot my family somewhere else, permanently.
You can still find affordable living in certain areas in the south. You cant buy a cheap house near a large city but outside a major city.
Utah is such a beautiful state with so many great national parks in or nearby, wish I could move there. But I can see missing the south with the food weather and music. Tough call.
Well he said he loves it there so it's an easy call for him but she wants out...sadly. It's beautiful.
Music? Put on Spotify.
Louisiana is the worst state to raise kids, dud. Do some search online.
Louisiana is a dead place. Nothing there for younger people.
Man I can relate to this. I’m from the south and live in utah. Utah wages are super low and the cost of living is super high. The south is the way to go! Only in utah does the “man” convince the women to live where they are from. Utahns are terrified to leave the state generally I’ve noticed
I've heard a lot of people say "they're" on their own for college. Most of them have kids that are no where near college age. Hey, I'm not not going to tell anyone what they should do....but I have observed what they actually do when the time comes.
Too many Mormons? Wow... Prejudice much? Yes please leave Utah and don't come back
Totally agree!
Teacher pay in the south is low, especially Florida.
Ken nailed it...it's sad that they didn't have the same vision. Dr. John could have helped this guy as well.. Why leave a place that you love? Dude-stay in Utah with your job and sweet set up with your job. Horrible advice about just move...
What’s wrong with Utah? Always liked the nature there. (Coming from a southerner)
Mitt.
Too many MLM's are headquartered in Utah and alongside the LDS they pretty much own every elected official there. Beautiful scenery though.
@@scarpfish What the heck is "MLM" and "LDS"?
@@SarahConnor562 Thanks.
She's probably not a big fan of bitter cold, snow and ice for starters. That a deal killer for many, but I would think that he might have mentioned that if that was the case.
I have lived in the south my entire life and would not want to live anywhere else. True, cost of living is less but mostly the pay is also less. Guarantee he would not make $70,000+ teaching shop here. Maybe just take your wife on vacation to the south, in July or August. She will change her mind LOL!!😎
Imagine letting the Mormons determine where you live.
My wife and I love the cold and dry of Utah. Never moving to the south.
Get the heck out of Utah, you can always come back
God get me out of Washington state
Utah is way better than any southern state by a mile.
I'm moving out. Air quality is terrible.
Agreed! Living long term with the inversion is not a good strategy for long term health.
Why would they not stay. The lady who doesn’t work wants to move. She will never be happy.
he's getting 10% match on retirement and she sells eyebrows for a living making squat. That wife is not a vault of business savvy.
@@eckankar7756 for real. This call was unreal to me.

Maaan, this dude ain’t hearing these boys. . . He dancing to his own tune.
I'm liking Ken a little less every clip.
@Berry Mouritsen I like George - he doesn't always go straight to "you guys have a relationship problem" shpeel.
Right? Why do they have to put such an act on? Feels clownish
@Berry Mouritsen same here. I am sure hes a decent person but i prefer ao to gk any day.
@Slyman 91 guys that say that are wussies.
@Berry Mouritsen OMG he does look just like him! LOL
I agree with the caller, keep contributing to the 401k.
He would have a 401k and no wife, I’m afraid.
Here's a pension, at 30 years, you or your wife gets 75% of your annual of best 36 month run
+ SSA
He’d do just fine anyway in the south, he can keep contributing to his stupid 401k there just as much. He was worried for nothing. This is the thing about people who have never lived anywhere else in their life, they think they can’t have a better lifestyle somewhere else because of their own biases of only One location.
FL salary may not be that high but 10 percent over salary does go into FRS from my understanding.
Based upon what you said you will be able to sell and then pay cash for a bigger house so the cut in pay will offset not having a mortgage
I say DO IT NOW. The guy can do as well in the south, and it is much lower cost to live in the south. You could buy a home outright with your equity.
The wife makes $10k/yr. She has no say in where the family lives lol Grow some balls buddy!
Thanks for watching.

Good grief fella, the HELOC goes when you sell the house, you learn to save using the baby steps and Dave’s plan, the cost of living in another state will be lower so the pay is not an issue, go! Go now! There will be great kids to teach wherever you go.
The wife wants a bigger place, hope she likes cleaning!. We moved to a bigger house, we later regretted it due to the upkeep of the house and garden.
He's not going to make the money he wants being a teacher here in the south.
Sounds like me trying to leave Commiefornia

If not even sure if you'd find a place in the South that has the funding to teach Auto Shop.
These conversations are important pre marriage.
I’m ready to go to Utah . A ceo said it’s a nice place .
I’ve lived in the south(Florida, Georgia) grew up in Utah(and currently live there) and other states as well. Not gonna lie, Utah’s nice, but if I get the opportunity to move back to Florida, I’m taking it! Sure miss that southern feel and the weather.
I'm looking to move from Philly to Tampa soon. Do you know of any good places to live in the Tampa area?
Honestly it depends on what you like. I prefer more country feel so I’ll be staying away from the cities. My suggestion would be to rent first and get to know the area and wether you like it before finding a home.
Utah has issues right now too bad these guys are too defensive about religion to address the man's question
What issues?
@@mirabella2154 mostly growing pains. Our population is set to double by 2045 so just lots of people coming in and it has made real estate and property taxes skyrocket. The appreciation is great for people who already own, but not great for young locals who want to buy a home anywhere close to their extended families.
@@mikederucki That's the case for every state that is taking in the mass Exodus of CA/NY and so on. Florida is right there with Utah. Real Estate in FL is INSANE
@@mirabella2154 religion interfering with state rights for one. Religion is a monolith in Utah more than any other state in the union. The Mormons aren't all good either, 250 million dollars in molestation settlements for Boy scouts of America, they are basically a mini Catholic church. And aside from the religion deal, you have people from California and Nevada moving here inflating the real estate prices. Making it hard for working class people to buy or even rent in Utah. Huge opioid crisis. Many people here are on drugs. Utah ain't perfect
@@mikederucki Somebody always wins and somebody looses. I don't see an issue with the state of Utah here.
Don’t think moving to the South will be cheap. Plenty of cities in the south are plenty pricey. Do your homework. Southern living is not as slow as you think. Not unless your are out in the country in the deep South.
the caller mentioned state retirement plan, thats alot better than 401K. he needs to do more research.
Arkansas has a great retirement system. You can do an ira the Fayetteville area and Little Rock area pay 70-80k

3:08. No matter what. Whenever you see "Wife" or "Husband" in the video title, it will always come back to a relationship or "marriage" issue.
"There's too many Mormons" Oh boo hoo. What do people expect? It's Utah. They were there first. Bet she's upset the ocean is wet.
Arizona is a chiller version of Utah
I think the relevant point from this call is that his wife is a bigot.
How tf does this man deal with all those children and students? A little odd.
The wife probably doesn’t like LDS people that’s why she wants to move
Has anyone considered if she’s concerned about the community pressure placed on the children to convert to the LDS as they enter junior high and high school?
My frustration is I already live in Utah, grown up here my whole life, but the people flooding in from communist California are ruining it all for us. Driving house prices up and taking up space.
Move to the South?
Maybe the certain Californians don’t want to live in a communist state anymore either. They have a right to leave if they want to.
Happy wife happy life
SIMP mentality
They are on their own for college 😂😂 typical but at least unlike others who call hes honest.
I think it depends on the district in Texas. Some district in houston pays well, like Katy! Don’t overpay for a Texas house though. Katy TX have great schools for your kiddos
Now I'm imagining a T-shirt that says, "Don't Utah my [home state here]".
Or, “Don’t California MY Utah!”
Or don't Texas my Utah on tbe back and don't California my Utah on the front. And don't honk at everything when driving here, we give it a hot second before honking on the horn.
I like Ken and George, but Dr. Deloney would've been better for this one.
"They're on their own for college"
This guy should have had less kids. He clearly doesn't care about them.
My same thoughts exactly
That’s huge…never heard of a school district that contributes to 403b
Spawn out five kids and say they’re on their own for college? Why not have just two and provide better?
100%
Really...............
Mormons preach "don't use birth control". Each child is a blessing. 🙄
College provides most people with only debt and brainwashing.
She may have said too many Mormons, but if she misses the South, it has nothing to do with Mormons. She probably is sick of the snow and cold and is just plain homesick. The South is a culture like no other. I miss it too sometimes.
I have lived in Oregon for 28 years, and yet I still miss Los Angeles on occasion.
He has to move to the south because someone making 10K says so? Is she planning on getting a job when the move?
Nice anti-Mormon sentiment!! 👎🏼👎🏼 Happy to see you go!! Sayonara! 👋👋👋👋👋
Why is it only about what the wife wants?
“We gotta move out of Utah, there are too many Mormons”
Swing…
“And move to the south.”
… and a miss.
Yeah, move to Atlanta and then there are too many of another group. She might miss the Mormons. Lol.
Don't come to the south
Or he can continue to anger and disappoint his wife and end up divorced. Then he can really experience poverty.
So money is more important than your wife and family. That's all there is to it.
Need money to survive. It’s about survival
teaching jobs that pay anything are hard to come by
Such poor advice, really arrogant to say if he was worried about something he should’ve done it sooner.
There's always Parma Ohio
Wait..what? Ohio is NOT the south.
dont more to texas
