  • IS FASHIONPHILE SCAMMING US? OR IS THIS JUST BUSINESS?
Hello My friends - You know how much I love Fashionphile. I have purchased quite a few bags and SLGs from them, but this situation had me question some things and I wanted to hear your thoughts. Are they scamming us or is this just business? Let me know in the comments. Thanks so much for watching! XOXO~Amber

They are so overpriced and I think they take advantage of people. They charge more than retail for used LV that's new in stock on the LV website.

You already know my thoughts on this, but I 100% don’t believe that someone bought the bag and then immediately canceled their purchase, and I’m more upset about the bait and switch and lying than anything else. I’m also of the opinion that they should have honored the price adjustment. A half hour difference in the bag being delisted? Dirty tactics.

I won't say the resellers or private sellers are scammers but its really hard to see everything on photos, and any odd smell would be a problem. I don't wanna deal with disputes, returns etc. Life is too stressful to add on from shopping xoxo

Hi Amber! I am on FP daily and see that they do this all the time! I'm so happy you are bringing it up because it is not fair! I like them too but they are 100% not telling the truth. It is not a system error. I have received so many notifications with your exact situation and the same thing, out of stock and then relisted for so much higher! Really sad because I think they have changed so much and not for the better :( I keep screen shots of all of the items I am watching because of this and their price adjustments. It happens even when the item is not 30% off. Keep your screen shots girls! :) For piece of mind that you're not seeing things :)

Never accept a no from someone who cannot give a yes. So if agent needs to speak with a manager, You, as the client, need to speak directly to that manager to make your case or complaint. FF agents on the line would not have the power to override the price of an item by 40%. I will admit this has a feeling of a used car sales tactic. I would send a complaint letter to Carlsbad. If enough clients of FF did this I would think the “system issue” may find a resolution. It’s a bummer to miss out on that steal of a deal, but thank you for bringing this to light.👜

I noticed this happened a lot lately (after the resell market has slow down some), even when the item is only 20% off. I think maybe the system recognized when the discounted price is lower than what they paid for these items from people. Maybe the system has a way to take out the stock and relist them again! Just a thought?! Maybe?

  • @hollylynn32

I have had two separate situations. First, I purchased an item on luxury reserve on a Saturday and contacted Fashionphile on Monday because the bag I really wanted showed up on the website and wanted to switch the layaway. The Customer Service person stated that if I cancel it my layaway, it will be relisted at the original listing price and not the sale price. So, I needed to be sure that I really wanted to cancel it because they would not honor the sale price if I changed my mind. I canceled it and I went back and checked and the bag was full price again. I did miss out on the bag that I wanted but two days later it was back at the original price and I bought it. I think their system truly does relist automatically at the original price and you take the risk of missing out on the bag you want. I do think there is a lot of "canceling" orders or layaways. But I do think some items are relisted at the original price. I think since you were actually able to get them on the phone that fast (I have never been that lucky!) they should have honored that price!

I called and got the same thing, I’m sorry there’s nothing we can do. I absolutely think this is a switch and bait game on fashionphile’s end. I use to love fashionphile back in the day, but not any more as their prices are wild for the most part. I actually had the opposite happen, in which I bought an item and returned it. It got listed back for way less than I paid for, which was really annoying to see (I received an email saying my item is back in stock). Their customer service reps have always been nice, but I really dislike a $14 return fee and pricing way higher compared to getting it brand new from either a private shopper or boutique. And let’s not talk about the disrespectful buyout program they have 😒. Unfortunately, at this point I just don’t shop with them anymore. It just isn’t worth it to me.

I've dealt with fashionphile for years, for the most part, they have given me fair prices for years,However, I recently submitted a very new handbag that retails for $50k,and they totally lowballed me with a quote to buy it for a little over $2k (?)really(?)I honestly I think they lowballed me purposely, maybe because they have given quotes recently, and I have not sold anything to them recently.I reached out to them telling them that they made a huge mistake on that particular quote, and on another bag I submitted a brand new condition chanel double flap caviar,black/gold,They also lowballed me on that with a quote of $3k,Knowing that they will sell it for at least $10k,they claim to give the customer(seller) 85% of the projected sale price for items over$3k,and 70/75% fir items under that.BTW,they never responded to my question about the $50k bag low low lowball quote, Do your homework so they don't cheat you,By them not responding to me,I've lost respect for them, and they lost my business.

I have to say although frustrating they’re still a business. I have personally done this before where I bought the bag at 30% off and had buyers remorse and canceled my item. It obviously then has to go back on the website but then it’s treated as a new bag to the site (which does make sense) otherwise everything would be % off. Though their prices used to be more buyer friendly, this is not a good market for selling / buying bags and they do have to make $$.

What she told you was true. Someone will purchase as RESERVE Layway. Then they will go back and cancel the Layaway. That messes up the discount price for that item…it’s like a reset when people purchase then cancel. I don’t think it was a tactic because they don’t have to give a discount like most luxury houses don’t. People going to pay. I learned if you want something you better go ahead and get it especially if you see with hundreds of likes. Tfs❤

The bag wasn’t selling at any other discount, and then once there was someone on the hook, they hoped for your FOMO and wanted to still make a profit off of this previously unsellable bag. They did not say it was a “system error.” It’s very frustrating, and I think maybe it’s both; someone returned/cancelled it, and a bait and switch. I also hate that they have changed their return policy with the shorter return window as well as the return shipping fee. I, too, will continue to shop Fashionphile, but definitely more cautiously. I also refuse to feel pressured to buy when it happens that an item I’m interested in gets relisted at the higher price. Thanks for making this video. The more you know…🤔 ~Christina

@@susanh2924 I have noticed recently that the 15 day return window isn’t always a full 15 days. Again, I appreciate the fact that they offer returns. However, if the item especially comes from the New York store (I’m on the west coast), I don’t get the full 15 days. And, with that said, I have made most of my returns for items that come from that location. The item either arrives poorly packaged/damaged, or the item’s condition is different than what’s stated on the website description. No disrespect to the people in that location, as their customer service has always been good. As far as the fee for returns, just to clarify, you can either pay for the return shipping yourself, or have Fashionphile provide you with a return label and deduct $14.99 from your refund. ~Christina 😊

Amber, love all your videos. I’ve purchased several times on Fashionphile. I think it was not a scam, definitely not bait and switch. It sounds like computer glitch. Since you screenshot shot the item and price, I think they should have given you the item at the lower price. Recently, I questioned an item I purchased because it was described as having calfskin at the corners. The zipper came off after one week and I discovered the zipper tab was fake leather. They said it was on me to prove that it wasn’t fake leather and that I need to go to an independent authenticator. Bottom line, I had my first unpleasant experience with Fashionphile! I believe the description wasn’t accurate on the handbag and the representative I spoke to was not consumer friendly. She wasn’t looking to question if the description was correct and surely didn’t write that in her notes for a better customer experience. Perhaps, the manager or management has changed.

My last two experiences with Fashionphile were awful. Bought an item they considered “very good” and it came with cracks in the canvas everywhere and melting glazing. Second one said “excellent” and has a huge black mark across the back that’s not removable and was covered by the strap in the images. It’s relisted and the photos still don’t show the black marks.

It’s a bait and switch tactic. If they create high demand they can charge more for a bag and get more $ out of it then why wouldn’t they? And they are owners of their system so they should be able to fix it not just blame on it.

Just wanted to give some insight from the other side as well. Emailed them photos and everything, they offered me a $100 store credit 🫤. I decided to just return it and they relisted it at the same price!!! It’s not in Excellent condition and should be lowered. While their customer service was exemplary it still left a bad taste in my mouth. The item is still for sale 2 months later!!!

I’m one of those people who bought an item, then realized that I didn’t really want it and cancelled the order. The item went from 30% off back up to the original price, and it showed up as a new arrival. But I don’t believe this is a system error. This happened over a year ago and if it really was an error FF should have fixed it by now. I think FF does this on purpose as a marketing tactic.
As far as FF intentionally raising the price, I assume they do that too. 😢

I've bought items on Fashionphile before. One time I made a hasty purchase and canceled it, and then it was relisted back at the original listed price. I'm just confused about whether they told you that auto-relisting is a system issue/error or if auto-relisting is a standard process. I would say a standard process is not a system issue/error, but a normal practice. A system issue/error is supposed to be nonstandard and irregular and not supposed to happen. The standard practice feels wrong, but I don't feel it entitles me to get the lower price if someone purchased it before me because they beat me to it. If the auto-relisting was a computer error, meaning it's not supposed to happen and did, then I'd feel justified in asking for the lower price. Now, if no one really bought it and they relisted at a higher price, that is messed up and I would definitely be calling and asking for the lower price, but how can we tell? We need someone who works on the inside.

  • @lorilynn4350
    @lorilynn4350 6 місяців тому

I think this is intentional and I'm concerned their practices are becoming more like this as so many just purchase anyway or don't realize. I had been a loyal Fashionphile customer, both buying and selling, but they have become so difficult that I don't really pay much attention to them anymore. They purchase bags at a very low price now (which is fine as I have control over whether I sell to them or not) but I have received purchased bags with inaccurate descriptions, which I have proven and they will accept the bag back, but then with a large restocking fee. I'm pretty much over them now. Great topic!

I love Fashionphile and have purchased from and sold to them many times. Yes, they are a business and they are going to do what they can to increase profits.
But, there are bags that are listed over retail and are still available in LV, Fendi, etc. Also, because I visit the website a lot lol and get back in stock notifications, I feel like the timing is sometimes sketchy. It seems like they just take it off and relist it again for full price without someone having bought it. I feel like the descriptions aren't as good as they used to be and defects might only be shown in pictures.
Has anyone noticed how so many of the bags now suddenly say "Date unknown?"
You need to do your research and know what the bag is worth or you could overpay.

This literally happened to me yesterday (bag went out of stock and back in stock very quickly). I do think it is a system relisting - if we waited this long for the bag to go on 30% discount, there is no way I would be willing to pay the original listing price. So if they banked on someone purchasing the bag no matter what, that would be a terrible business strategy.
I am guessing someone purchased and cancelled, but... Fashionphile should honor the discounted price.

Hi Amber, this has happened to me too. Like you, I called, and got the same answer. Here is what I think. I do believe it's a system error.
They need to fix it ASAP. However, it was bad business that they didn't honor the price for you. That is actually horrible business! I've called with questions several times on bags, and they just aren't very customer friendly. This kind of behavior will eventually cost them loyal customers. I still by from them, but the more I hear these stories, the less attractive they become. It's a shame.

So I am a VIP with FP and had something like this happen. I will also say when I see an item added to the site and I know the time it’s added, I will take note of that as when it’s x amount of days later it is marked % off at the same time that many days later. I’ve then purchased the bag when I see the % change based on the time. The email is then sent out much later - meaning I knew the bag was going to go 20% off at say 1pm, the email for that bag being “on sale” may not go out until 2p. So if someone is onto the system (like me, given the TIME) then really the email is way after it goes on sale.

Bait and switch no doubt, they do this all the time. FP isnt what it used to be. Driven by such greed now. Ive sold a bunch of items recently, they paid me absurd prices and listed for 3-4x what they paid me for them. Ive also had to return numerous bags recently due to significant undescribed issues, and after calling and attaching statements describing the undisclosed issues, they relist without changing the listing and w/o disclosing the issues, and at higher prices to boot. Yesterday i cancelled a vintage Hermes scarf i had on layaway b/c i found it cheaper elsewhere and in much better condition….i paid 225 for it (it was never reduced), and it relisted at 375. I got it from a trusted scarf seller for 175. FP is out of hand. I just sold them a brand new unused Hermes scarf, they paid me 110 for it and listed it for 525.
They absolutely are scamming you and i hope you do not give in. 3k more is ridic. I have some seasonal LV pieces i paid FP way over retail for, and everytime i look at them my stomach churns.

I just got one of these emails. I will say it may happen in some cases but I think this is deliberate and not the case in every situation. I think they try to meet a threshold particularly on certain items. Honestly, I don’t think this is an honest practice and I am sad they have chosen this route. I also don’t believe there is nothing they can do. It’s too bad they’d rather be known as shady.

I’m not familiar with American consumer legislation - but if it is a broad enough issue and has impacted so many consumers, I’d recommend investigating further and consider taking legal action to try to influence them to change these practices. In Canada it is illegal for such practices against consumers and we have legislation against it (to investigate, enforce, and fine). Hopefully this video will spur some commentary and action as it does seem predatory against consumers.
