  • The Olympus Pen E-PL7 has a 16MP Live MOS sensor, and it's powered by their TruePic Seven image processor. It has a great 3" 1.04M dot LCD.

    I think the E-PL series cameras are some of the most underrated and wrongfully overlooked cameras on the market.

    This is a great camera with wonderful image quality and is easy to learn to use and work with. I do not personally find any relevant flaws with the camera.
    New models being announced does not necessarily cause current models to become immediately obsolete or devalued. As long your camera has the technical features you require, and provides you with image quality that suits your standards, it will remain relevant. I mention that because its the nature of marketing for new models to come to be announced yearly almost, in the similar manner as automobiles are, however most people do not upgrade their car each year...so to is my opinion with cameras. I personally am still shooting with the last camera I purchased about 4 years ago, and I still love it for my needs. Unfortunately manufactures do not provide us with any information as to their future products or intentions for me to be able to advise if a new model is on the horizon. We learn of new models the same day as you. - Yossi

    What camera would you say is better this Pen e-PL7 or the canon t5i ? I am looking to buy a camera but I am torn between the two. I like the pen because its much smaller and easier to travel with but I want to have a camera that I can learn to use. I've only ever owned point and shoot cameras and want something with better quality.

    im torn between the olympus epl7 or sony rx100mark III. Ive currently got the epl 6 and quite happy with it except for its inability to take wide angle pics. i like the idea of a small compact camera like the sony point and shoot but im not sure which camera would produce better picture quality. hellp?

    Still looking for this camera used around 150€, a total deal breaker. I can use my Panasonic Lens anda also Nikon with m4/3 adapter which I already used :) ultra compact and portable.

    what lens would you recommend for travel photography such as landscapes and architecture? and also how does this compare to the om-d em-5 mark 2?

    • @BandH
      @BandH  7 років тому +1

      For Landscape and architecture, you might look at a super wide zoom such as the Panasonic Lumix G Vario 7-14mm f/4.0 ASPH. Lens. It would be an excellent option for shooting interiors and sweeping landscapes. Although it is a Panasonic lens, it would still be compatible with Panasonic cameras. As for the E-PL7 vs the E-M5 II, the E-M5 II will have the better build and over all image quality between the two cameras. It will also be a faster camera with better video features; though this likely won’t matter for travel photography. *Christina*

    Hi there I was wondering whether to choose between this camera or Sony a5100 purpose of the camera is for selfies and vlogging

    • @BandH
      @BandH  8 років тому

      +Yi Jun Leow - Sony offers the superior sensor design and 60p HD video processing. AF for video is quicker and more accurate as well. A series of distinct AF modes can be selected from depending on the subject. Eye AF is a detail-oriented focusing function that can prioritize a subject's pupil and
      dedicate focusing performance on that for sharply-rendered portraits; Lock-on AF is a dedicated focusing method for use with moving subjects and adjusts the target frame size as the subject moves throughout the image frame; AF area settings allow you to prioritize specific regions within the frame for increased accuracy; and AF-A (Automatic AF), AF-S (Single-shot AF), AF-C (Continuous AF), DMF (Direct Manual Focus), and Manual Focus modes can also be
      chosen. >Mark

    Does the epl 6 also have the ability to connect an adapter for a microphone?

      With the Olympus SEMA-1 Microphone Adapter Set, you would be able to use an external mic with E-PL6. *Christina* AskUA-cam@bhphoto.com

    hey im wondering if i should choose this or Nikon 1 J5? which is better? i'm not a pro photographer at all but i just need something thats easy to use and takes great images

    • @BandH
      @BandH  8 років тому

      The Nikon 1 J5 and Olympus Pen E-PL7 would have different strengths. If you have any Nikon DSLR lenses or need something that can shoot extremely fast, the Nikon J5 would likely be the way to go. Otherwise, there will be more lens options for the E-PL7 and I find it has better overall image quality and low light performance. Both should be equally easy to use. *Christina* AskUA-cam@bhphoto.com

    been hunting through reviews for ages! would you guys be able to recommend a good lens for vlogging/general video with the olympus pen E-LP7? I have a 50mm 1.8 for my DSLR but its far too close. looking for something with a good depth of field.
    thanks for the brilliant video :)

    • @BandH
      @BandH  8 років тому

      +Christina Rotondo Before I make any recommendations, I would like to first clarify, are you using a DSLR's 50mm f1.8 lens on your E-PL7 camera, or was your comment about the lens being far too close occurring when used on your DSLR? Also could you please indicate which model DSLR you're u sing the 50mm on if that's the case. Thanks in advance. - Yossi

    • @christinartnd
      @christinartnd 8 років тому

      +B and H hey, sorry for the confusion. The 50mm 1.8 I am using on my Nikon DSLR d5100. This I find too close. The other day I actually took a trip to a local photography store and tried The Olympus 25mm 1.8 for the pen and the depth of field is fantastic and it's much further away than the 50mm

    • @BandH
      @BandH  8 років тому

      +Christina Rotondo - No worries. Thanks for replying back. I'm glad you were able to see a model in person that suits your needs. The 25mm f1.8 is a good option for what you are looking to do and is one I would recommend, another is the 17mm f1.8 which will give you an even wider field of view if that's something that’s a factor, however if you saw how the 25mm lens appears on your camera and it works for your needs I'd say go for it. Here's a link to the 17mm lens in case you're interested. - Yossi

      @paristo 8 років тому

      +Christina Rotondo If You are still looking for a lens to E-PL7, the answer for your question is to check focal lengths from 17mm up to 25mm. You have multiple choices like Your tested Olympus 25mm f/1.8 or 17mm f/1.8. Or then You can check Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 or even 25mm f/1.4.
      I admire the Olympus 25mm f/1.8. All those are great choices by shallow depth of field. Olympus ones are great for video focusing but don't remember exactly was one of those Panasonic ones somewhat slower to focus in video.

    Would this be better than the Odm e m10 by Olympus? I'm looking for Picture Quality and Video Quality (optional Good Mic)

    • @BandH
      @BandH  8 років тому

      In terms of image quality and low light performance, the E-PL7 and OM-D E-M10 will be extremely comparable. Between the two, I would lean towards the E-M10. The build, ergonomics, and viewfinder alone would make it the better camera. Keep in mind, neither have a jack for an external mic. You would need the Olympus SEMA-1 Microphone Adapter Set to use a mic on either camera. *Christina* AskUA-cam@bhphoto.com

    I had the E-PL9 but it didn't have any wired shutter remote ctrl port so I added the E-PL7. None of the two proved suitable for my woodlands photography, no matter what M settings I used and regardless of the lenses, both digital and analog and vintage, nada. Great for street shoots but not for woodlands. Both PL9 and PL7 keep on overcompensating exposure and color and keep clipping no matter what settings.

    • @jeffslade1892
      @jeffslade1892 7 місяців тому

      I do not know how many woodland photos I have taken with my E-PL7. It does have a perfectly good remote shutter port, Olympus use the USB socket. To get the correct exposure you might want to change the metering mode, correct the EV compensation or use the Highlight-Shadow gain curve.
      I bought my E-PL7 in 2014 not long after its launch, and despite newer cameras it is still my favourite carry. The flip screen makes it ideal for waist level and ground level shots, the VF4 in bright sunlight. Mine is normally fitted with the Panasonic PZ14-42. The only genre it is not particularly good at is handling extra-long wildlife lenses, but it does handle the tiny PZ45-175 well. The facelift E-PL8 was the last with the AP2 after which the Pen-Lite range got dumbed down.

    What do you mean by 'no built-in mic jack'? Does this mean that I would need to purchase a microphone as an accessory? This video was so helpful thanks!

      +HelloAmyy The Olympus Pen E-PL7 does not
      have a port for connecting an external mic: that is what is meant by ?no
      built-in mic jack?. It does have a built in stereo mic, though. *Christina* askbh@bandh.com

    i ve bought a second hand Olympus PEN EPL-5, but have been disappointed with the battery goin flat after about 1/2 hr of use - no doubt it ll have to be replaced. I ll probably buy two batteries new - anyone have any suggestions on general battery management?? -------PS i come from analogue background the OM1s where if you ve been on standby /ready to take for a couple of hours, youre no going to find yourself with a flat battery.

    • @BandH
      @BandH  8 років тому +1

      +Pete “chezruss” Russ - Depending on how you are using the camera could determine the battery performance. If you’re one like me, that likes to frequently review your images on the LCD screen and show them to other people, that will have an impact on the battery performance. Colder weather/conditions can also deplete the battery power at a faster rate. If you’re an active shooter having several spare batteries is always a sound idea. - Yossi

    Can I ask how this camera compares to the Sony a5100?

    • @BandH
      @BandH  8 років тому

      Each camera would have its own strengths. The a5100 will have the better low light performance and better overall image quality for both stills and video. I also find the a5100 to have the better autofocus system. The E-PL7 is a faster camera in terms of max burst rate, and has built-in image stabilization. That being said, between the two, I would lean towards the a5100. *Christina* AskUA-cam@bhphoto.com

    how about this camera vs canon m3 ?

    • @BandH
      @BandH  6 років тому

      Image quality between the two cameras are fairly equally match. The Olympus PEN E-PL7 does have about 2/3-stop of extra dynamic range, while the Canon EOS M3 has better low-light performance. The Olympus E-PL7 does have more lenses natively designed for their Micro Four Thirds lens mount, the camera has better battery life, has almost twice the speed in continuous burst speed, has a larger RAW buffer, and features in-camera image stabilization. The Canon EOS M3 does have a built-in flash, has higher image resolution, has a larger JPEG buffer (unlimited buffer for JPEGS), shoots both 24p and 60p video, and has on-sensor phase detection for faster AF performance. At this time, both cameras are discontinued (though at the time of this reply, we do still have a few of the Canon EOS M3 2-lens kits available), but it will mainly come down to the performance features listed above as the image quality between the two cameras are similarly matched.

    Whats a better camera Olympus E-PL7 or a pixel 6?

    • @BandH
      @BandH  2 роки тому +1

      If you need extreme portability, ease of use, and always want to have the ability to take photos anytime and anywhere, then the Google Pixel 6 (with its fabulous AI) is the right choice. If you seek the best possible imaging along with the ability to change lenses and have greater creative control over things like focus, bokeh, and lighting, then go with the now discontinued Olympus E-PL7. @BandH  5 років тому +2

      As indicated on page 62 of the Olympus PEN E-PL7 Mirrorless Digital Camera's instruction manual, the standard range available when shooting in Manual mode is ISO 200 - 3200. However, page 70 does indicate under the Auto setting that you may choose LOW, 200-25600 under ISO sensitivity. When Set to ISO LOW, LOW would be the equivalent of ISO 100.
