My word! Number 5 has annoyed me since the start!! I always wondered why WHY WHYYYY, did they build such a superb car and ruin it with not being able to use Sport+ and DSC off together! 😢😭😭
I can add a few things too. I have a pre-LCI Manual car. I adore it and use it as a daily driver. But there's still some points I'd change:
- The plastic in the cupholders scratches very very easily and looks terrible within a few days if you put your smartphone (or similar) in there.
- can't close (lock) the car with running engine from the outside without it honking the horn twice very loudly. Has annoyed me multiple times.
- Stock suspension makes the car (wheel arches etc.) look a bit high.
- This one has been discussed a lot: I really like the auto blip (rev matching) function of the manual gear box but from time to time I'd love to do the rev matching by myself without having to turn off traction control completely. Most people who order a manual nowadays want the "analog experience". So why take away from this? If people want amenities and comfort and maxed out performance they would have ordered the auto in the first place. Again: I like the auto blip but there should be a dedicated button for it.
- Spotify integration is decent but doesn't work flawlessly every time. It's quite annoying.
- The centre screen between speedometers is ridiculously small (pre-LCI)
- Love the backlit speedometer but hate that there's no way to turn it on/off individually. It is automated and in some situations is barely visible at all.
- Yes, the parking sensor problem is mega stupid on so many levels.
- Amazing cold start procedure but obnoxiously loud without the opportunity for quiet very early morning start ups (etc.). I feel bad almost every time as I live in an intimate neighborhood and have to drive away early.
I haven't experienced the scratches in the cupholders but I can agree with the rest.
I can add two things:
- Overheating brakes while driving on the race track
- Lack of bucket seats
M2 competition solves these problems
How does the competition solve the brake problems? It only has bigger brakes, it doesn't have proper brake lines and fluids
CARtuned! You are right I jest assume that the performance will get better due to bigger brakes
CARtuned! Journos say it stops on track still but pedal does get a bit longer
Bucket seats?You can't complain about something you were aware of when you ordered the car.
M2 competition bring other problem called S55
I got an M4 ac schnitzer and secretly want an M2 as I love the size and aggressive look and feel it's more in line with the original M cars of early years compared to my big lump of a car.....wanted to be put off so I watched your vid....great vid....nicely done. I've subscribed.
Oh and you haven't put me off wanting one....although I prefer the pre-LCI for some reason.
If you put it in neutral, the rear parking sensors bells should go off.

CARtuned! Hmm, may want to take that in to get looked at. I have the 2018 M2 LCI as well and as soon as I go into neutral or drive, it stops.
I can confirm what Christian is saying. I also have an 18 M2 and the sensor system stops once I am out of reverse.
Press the “P” button by the shifter when the sensors are ringing and that should silence them. My X5 and M3 drove me crazy until I figured it out.
I have a manual so I don't have the park button

Totally agree with everything. Is a pity that if you stop the traction control you lost the sound and response of the trothel. Also, tyres must be a litle bit larger to protect the rims from rocks
You don't lose the sound. Sport and sport+ modes only increase the fake sound inside the car. The exhaust is just as loud. You only lost the throttle response a bit
You know you can turn your ‘back beepers’ or parking sensors off right? You need to press the button left in the back from the shifter.
The original and LCi M2 doesn't have that button. Only the Competition has it

Very nice channel. Well made videos and I really enjoyed watching them. I have a 2018 M2 in U.S after 2000miles driving it I had no issue with anything but rev-machting. Especially up shifting from 1-2 or 2-3. For example in comfort mode. It takes forever(around 2sec) to wait for RPM dropping into decent range for smooth shifting to next gear without jerking feeling by dumping the clutch. Right now if I’m trying to make passengers feel good, I hold clutch for a bit longer or wait for rpm to be steady for next gear then dump it. Kinda annoying. Cuz usually cars behind me are going to kiss me when I’m shifting from 1-2.
That's been my experience as well, mostly driving in Comfort or Traction. I always feel super slow to accelerate from standstill > 2nd gear, unless I rev it up to 3500-4000 in 1st.
But then I have to wait even longer to make a smooth shift to 2nd. I just finished break-in service, though, so I should probably just start driving in Sport + all the time.
Wow guys that seems pretty bad. I don't have that issue with my car but then again I rarely drive it in comfort mode.
Have you taken it to the dealer to get that checked?
Best path is to code rev match off. Helps with both up and down shifts.
The only one of those that hacks me off is the parking sensors, you just can’t turn the things off without turning the engine off. Great car though, if that’s the worst that can happen I’ll stick with it!
if you drive it for one inch it goes away
With the beeping from the rear sensors you can buy an oem off button and install it. The plug is right under the console too. There is a big thread about this on the forums. When I was reading it was just plug and play. Simple fix to have an ‘off’ button.
I had no idea there is not a sync button for the M2. Really? Even the M2c does not have this? This doesn’t make sense. My moms Honda CR-V has a sync button.
Yup. I've just seen the solution for the parking sensors in another comment. Will definitely try it!
And yes again about the sync button. The M2c doesn't have it either because it's essentially the same dashboard design. Not even the F30 3 Series has a sync button :) It's so weird...
For the rear sensor issue, I bought a part with the rear sensor on/off button removed from other 2 series, easy 30 mins job
Yes I know. But that only works if you have the backup camera, which I don't :)

Owner of a M2 LCI since april 2018 and I got a lot of "plastic noise" when driving from day 1 and vibration from m performance exhaust on cold start
The plastic noise is definitely something you need to get checked out, I have 12.000km and there's no rattles inside the car. But for the exhaust it's not the first time I've heard something like that...
CARtuned! Yes I was going to tell my dealership about the plastic noise next time. I read that BMW know about the m-perfomance exhaust vibrations, that they have a solution and that they take it under warranty. At least in the UK. Not sure in Belgium...

No chance of a software update. The last time BMW listened to its buyers/fans was ... never :)

Good vid and I also have some of the same bug bears with the sync button and front sensors. However, in my 2018 LCi M2 DCT to turn the parking sensors off after reversing i simply move the DCT from reverse to D/S and allow auto neutral to kick in. Maybe a software update will resolve your pain...
Already asked them for a software update. There isn't any at the moment :)

CARtuned! Your dealer is an idiot. How do you explain the many cars that have been updated? Search the web and you shall find.
So, question - when you engage Sport+ (one more press of button to go 'above' Sport) you do indeed see the TC light indicator light up. So I assume TC is off but that throttle response is better. Otherwise, if you engage Sport+ and because that turns off TC that kills throttle response that would have Sport+ basically turn the car into comfort mode with no traction control? This doesn't sound like how it 'works'. I will have to see but I don't get to drive the car often but I would expect most throttle and no TC in Sport+ which from memory seems to be the case.
Agree on front sensors (indeed would be nice) and climate sync (which seems almost basic to do).
When in Sport+ mode the TC is not fully off. It's active but it kicks in much later than usual. It allows the car to slide a little.
The only way to turn off TC in an M2 is to long press the TC button. And that takes the car out of Sport or Sport+ mode.
Interesting. Odd thought that in what one would have thought hitting Sport+ AND turning off TC with a long press would be like 'track mode' for lack of a better description. Not 'take you back to comfort but lose traction all you want' mode. Go figure.
Yeah. It's just one of those 'what were they thinking'... I'm going to track the car in September and I'm really curious how much the TC intervenes when driving in Sport+

5) I don’t ever drive my m2 in anything other than sport+ it’s an M car. Use sport mode and change the performance to the drive train / engine using customised options.
Only thing I don’t like about my m2 is the interior, I could understand originally it was supposed to be to keep the cost down but they now do the competition with the m seats for the same price I paid for my 2018 m2
2) I did complain. There's nothing you can do about it. Nowhere does it say that the car comes with Super Sports unfortunately
4) Well yeah. I'm not going to wait in the car with it in reverse. The car was in neutral. It's been discussed the in comments below.
5) I don't understand. How does that help with the issue? You can't have traction fully off and Sport+ engaged at the same time.
In almost all countries the M2 Competition is more expensive than the M2 LCI and the seats are optional extras as well. So you must have got at least a 15% discount to get the price that low. That's a very good deal indeed!
6. The lack of an adaptive suspension button which is still missing on the m2 comp
7. No apple car play. Cost option on m2 competition which is ridiculous when it’s available in $20,000 or less cars
There's Apply Carplay on mine. But no Android Auto.
DTE pedalbox in mdm mode would solve throttle response issue

Parking sensors? This is a sports car made for one thing. To enjoy driving. Take your assists, electronics, and nanny sensors to grandmas and shove them.
Why do supercars have parking sensors then? Aren't those made to enjoy driving?

Weird with the rear parking sensors. Mine don't act like that. I back up, then I put it in drive (still on the brake) and then they stop beeping... (pre LCI but shouldn't matter?)

Gret video, all valid points. Same issue with tyres on the M3, I got Conti's SC5p from the factory, on the plus side the ugly 5p sidewall offers good rim protection !
So it is an actual lottery with these tires on M-cars... that's so annoying! Do you have the 19" or the 20" Competition wheels?
This is on the 19" wheels, I think the competition 20" only come with Michelin.
my Things i hated on my pre lci m2: ( tried to brin new subjects on ;)
1. too much weight. the car was just too heavy. 1510kg empty. manual with nearly no options.
2. mdm is not aviable. sport plus mode was to conservative, it was better in the e** generation.
3. auto blip could not be turned off, only with dsc off.
4. asd was just too loud, turn it off with carly, you will change your mind.
5. second gear was a little bit too short for my taste.
6. the leather was not good at all, after 1 year it startet to fall apart. on heavy used spots.

Yes. I can agree with most of them except point nr. 6 The leather is indeed not good quality but on my car it's still in good shape.
That GT4 though, dream car, I adore it. Too bad it doesn't have 4 seats :( I kinda need that

Are you sure? They've delivered an M2 two days after my car and it had the Michelin's on it

Well I've got mine in December 2017 so I guess it doesn't apply. But anyway that's a silly reason to re place the Michelin's in my opinion. They should at least give people the option to choose the tires they want
That is a little difficult in Germany, 'cause a lot of M2s were smashed on slippery curves. Mine included, but I was lucky made only a long screw with Sport + so the M2 had no damage. Also the german insurance companies were involved in the decision dropping out the Michelins

I got lucky with my M2 it came with the Supper Sports. I used to drive a 228i with the track package witch also came with Super Sports and they really are the best tire. I agree with the things you said on this list, the only thing I might add is the fake vent on the side with the M2 badge over it. There should be no fake anything on a car at this price, how hard would it have been to make a actual vent?
Ah yes the vents. Forgot about those. And talking about fake stuff we should also include the active sound on the inside of the car. Maybe I should do 5 things I hate part two :))
Yeah, the fake nose needs to go. Keep that for the i3 lol
have a 228i myself and plan on getting an M2 when the car market calms down a little bit, how was the transition from the 228i to the M2.

My M2 has a DCT and I can shut it down, by going into neutral. I don't have no problem with this. I'm glad that there are no sensors in the front it would look like shit.
Wierd problems
My f30 is automatic and i have a parking sensor button witch toggles the sensors and camera on and off
That button only comes on cars equipped with front & rear parking sensors. And since the m2 only had sensors in the back, it never got that button
No remote start as standard

My bad! I was 100 % certain you were Swedish hehe. So i'm about to upgrade my Audi S3 S-tronic to a BMW M2 most likely. I'm considering to buy ether a BMW M2 2017-2018 or order a M2C from the factory. What would you do if you were in my seat? Based on a both economical and pleasure point of view :)
I don't think I'm the right person to ask for such advice. I'm pretty biased and I've already said that I prefer the 'regular' M2 even over the M4 :)
But also, I haven't driven the M2 Competition yet so I can't really compare it to my M2. The cars are identical except for the engine (and everything that comes with a new engine) and driving modes. The new engine is better, is it a 'proper' M-engine (if you care about that, I don't) it's more powerful but it also adds 80kgs to the weight of the car. Which is a lot.
So I can't really give you a straight answer I'm afraid :) I'm 99% keeping my M2, but I'm keen to drive the Competition to see if it changes my mind :)

No, it doesn't. Another miss along with the front parking sensors.
Should have bought a Chevy SS, all 5 issues are not a problem with it.

? park mode does not turn off parking sensors???? aaa, manual nu are park mode. As for TC etc, it never was an M car. it is a 3 series disguised as an M. M3-M5 have different management modes not the least different engine. This M2 was a trial to see if it may turn popular, and some weird choices such as left tilted driver's seat, M3-M5 no such issue.

Hey buddy I didn't mean to be rude. The "things" that you hate are absolute minor things, it's a great car, having MPSS vs contis will not change your car. You don't even track it you will see no difference on the road it will even be probably more fun with contis.
And tbh change them if you really thing MPSS are better
I have to disagree with you on one point. I think better tires and the ability to drive the car in Sport+ with DSC will definitely change the car. As far as the other things, yeah, I agree that they are minor. But I really like this car and it was difficult to find things I hate about it :)
The car is just 6 months old and that's why I haven't tracked it. But I already have a track day planned in September.
So really what your saying is buy an audi RS3. Because BMW is still unreliable and annoying. Lol🤣😂😁😅
Definitely not. I like fun cars and for me the RS3 is not that. Plus it's incredibly expensive for what it is

I would add to your list some gauges that for some reason BMW has seen fit to eliminate from recent models. I'd add an oil temperature gauge, a coolant temp gauge, oil pressure gauge & a voltage gauge. If Porsche can do it why can't BMW? I am annoyed that BMW doesn't put a wide brake pedal on DCT equipped cars. My DCT equipped 335is had a wide pedal, why was it eliminated from the M2?
The Contis have not been a problem for me. No breaking of traction, no real understeer etc. The biggest problem are the chocolate brakes and turbo lag..agree on the parking sensors though.
I guess I'll find out about the brakes next month on my first track day with the car. They seem to be ok on the road though :)
