Sit right back, and you'll hear a tale...
Back in episode 203 ("Jungle Goddess"), Joel and the bots performed a Honeymooners-like skit about what would happen if a jungle-born woman were transplanted to 1950s America. At the end, Joel introduces Crow as "Art Crow" (like Art Carney). Later, in episode 402 ("The Giant Gila Monster"), one of the drawings of Crow from a viewer is captioned as "Art." How Pearl knows this, or why she thinks he's "Art," I don't know.

One of the best MST3K episodes! The bio on wikipedia for Rondo Hatton shocked me. It's sad that this man actually experienced what it's like to go from being voted "most handsome boy" in high school to what you see in the film. So, confession... I actually like this movie. It has the standard weaknesses of B cinema, and the long explanation is pretty clumsy, but I find the story of a deformed man on a revenge spree finding a strange love with a blind woman compelling and interesting. I find the deaths tragic and the character of Rondo compelling. I mean, it's cheesy, and MatB riff it well, but this is one of those MST3k movies I would be fine watching on its own, one night in a drive in, my arm around a lady :)

After leaving high school, Rondo joined the Florida National Guard to pursue a military career. Rondo first saw battle in the Mexican border war and then in France in World War I. There, he was exposed to poison gas, was hospitalized with lung injury, and was subsequently medically discharged from service and consigned to a pension.
Returning to Tampa, he took employment as a reporter for the Tampa Tribune, where he worked until 1936 when he moved to Hollywood.
Sometime after his exposure to the poison gas, Rondo began to develop acromegaly, a slowly progressive medical condition, which brings mutations after a person has matured physically, and reached their adult height.
Acromegaly (a disorder of the pituitary gland) causes deformation of bones in the head, hands and feet, and internal and external soft tissues. The body resumes production of growth hormone, but as the bone structure can no longer continue symmetric growth (as in giantism). According to all available sources, Rondo's acromegaly was a result of the poison gas he'd been exposed to, though it is almost always caused by a tumor on the pituitary.
This was filmed in 1945. Rondo was going blind because of his exposure to the poison gas in WW1.
Rondo died Feb. 2nd 1946 of a heart attack at the age of 51.

God I love season 7... the fact it was cut short seems to have galvanized the gang to make every episode as perfect as possible, it's like they concentrated the funny of a whole season into a handful of episodes (sorta like orange juice... but with comedy)!

There is - episode 412, "Hercules and the Captive Women." She doesn't stick around for long, though - she gets bored and claims she has other things to do. I think the bulkiness of the puppet, plus the fact that she was operated by producer Jim Mallon, led to only a brief appearance in the theater.

I'm a little surprised there wasn't at least one reference to the movie "Manhunter" in the riffing, given that that film also features a disfigured serial killer who falls for a blind woman. ("I heard that Tom Noonan and Joan Allen studied these scenes when they were preparing to shoot 'Manhunter'...and then they made sure to do everything the exact opposite." Something along those lines.)
