Excellent color combo!!!! I like the look of the diamond braid with the chenille top, great use of material!!! I also had a good laugh on my memorization of hook models!!! I can remember those but don't ask me to remember what day of the week it is...LOL!!!!
I’m been tying jigs and flies for 53 years, and I recognize your natural talent sir! To make the fly more durable, I always wrap chenille and other perishable materials with fine wire. Personal preference, I know, but I get tired of a fly falling apart after one toothy strike. I’ve learned a lot from your tutelage, thank you. Keep up your hard work! Bill from frozen Mn.
Awesome video sir. I've been tying crappie jigs for over 15 years but I learn new patterns everyday. Your wraps are very consistent. I'm a new subscriber btw
LOL, sweet! Friday nights are usually Roadhouse or El Rey nights for the family - you caught me on my El Rey run! Glad you like the channel and decided to say hey!
I seen Arkansas fishing adventures do his 2tone like this and I was like "Mercy!" Cause I was weaving chenille like I was making a scarf! Seems like you are starting to relax and have fun with the challenges of crappie jigs. Keep pushing forward! Great jig!
Thx Kareem! You may or may not see some weaving next week (hint hint :)). I must have really looked stressed out last week - you’re the second person whose commented on my state of mind, LOL! Guess I need less coffee before tying!
This is as sedate as you've been in the last two or three videos. Love the pattern, I've done it with chenille a couple of times, looks good, catches fish especially bluegills.
Thanks Jim, glad you’re enjoying the channel! Today, I use a Renzetti Traveler Saltwater (which has larger jaws). Can’t recall what I was using in this video, but that’s what I tie on now-a-days!
I have not - on the bobbin side, I’ve always just used the budget options. Maybe someday I upgrade - if not to a Norvise (not sure if I would like the autorewind???) at least a side loaded adjustable tension setup. But again... those are like $30+ a bobbin, so replacing 5-6 of them... nearly $200! #aspirations
I’m ready to take the plunge into pouring my own jig heads. The link has the free style jig head with keeper mold. Is there a free style mold without a keeper or is there a way to pour without using the keeper?
hey Mike, glad to hear that! Definitely a big step in making your own tackle from the ground up! You have options on the Freestyle. I don't know of a Freestyle mold that doesn't include a keeper but you can either pour it without and and just snip off the little bit of lead or you can fill the keeper space in the mold with RTV high heat gasket maker. I opted for option B (and even made a video about "modifying" a mold this way... if you search the channel for RTV you should find it. I think its part of the Wed in the Workshop playlist as well). Its not as crucial with this mold as the lead you "block" with the RTV is so limited, it may be less effort to just pour as is and snip the excess. This would also allow you to use a keeper if you every choose so (without having to remove the RTV, which is possible, but can be a hassel). Hope this helps!! (BTW, another option would be a round head/ball head jig without a keeper, but then you're using stick-on eyes vs glue-on 3-D eyes. Another great option to consider as a round ball mold is extremely versatile!)
Man I like that two-tone jig their tie you did, try to make me one of those I haven't been time nothing but about 2 months but I believe I can do it I'm going to try
Nope 😊. They make them to at least 1/120th. I've tied many. They are true ultralight jigs. They are mainly used for trout BUT I've caught monster slabs and Bluegill on them as well.
@@SDGCustomLurecraft What's funny is that it's counterintuitive. You'd think that a 1/80th would only catch dinks....but no. Honestly, I've never caught a crappie under 12-13" on one. The work best in seasonal extremes. When it's 100 out with bluebird skies, bingo. When it's a nasty cold front in the middle of winter, bingo. It takes 4lb fluorocarbon and a lot of patience to get em down. I like to a double rig to help reduce the waiting...but even then it still takes forever. 🤣
It’s always fun to see a guy transitioning or performing at his “master level” phase of fly tying and lure making.
You’re too kind my friend - I’m no master, but I’m always a student! 👍👍

Thanks Bill! Wire is a great idea for added durability, most definitely!

Beautiful! You’re a truely talented artist that really inspires me to head to the ol’ vise😃
That’s awesome man! And thanks for the kind words! Now, go get in front of that vise and tie you up one!
Awesome looking Jig🎣🎣🎣🎣
Thank ya much!
Beautiful work!
Thanks man!
Clever tie! That is adaptable to lots of other ties. Thanks tons for sharing!
Yup, very versatile! Glad you enjoyed!
Currently looking at your truck in the Walmart parking lot! Pretty nice to see good youtubers around here!

Super idea for two tone.
Easy and effective, thanks Paul!
Loved this one!

I like it , nice tie Adam
Appreciate it Rich!
Like that a lot!
Glad you liked it David!
I liked it because it was different ro me an the fish thanks.. great info..
Glad you enjoyed it! Thx!!
Good tie
Thanks Patrick!

Not sure how to take “sedate” (is that a good thing?) but I’m glad you liked the pattern!
You’re right about Smalljaw, his knowledge of hooks and materials is encyclopedic. Great use and combination of materials. It’ll fish 🐟
Truly a marvel (SJ not the jig, Ha!). Thanks Art!
Very nice jig. What kind of vice do you use. Great video. Keep up the great videos

NICE!!......I HAVE A BUNCH OF DIAMOND BRIAD IN DIFF COLORS ...NEVER REALLY USED IT...MIGHT HAVE TO PULL IT OUT AND GET CREATIVE
It’s beautiful stuff, lots of options!!
Nice color combo.
Thx Mike!
Adam have you ever used a norvice bobbin ?

I couldn’t find blue chenille either. I use blue ice dubbing material and I like the wispy look more.
Good call, another great option!
I'm looking to buy a new vice I was wondering what kind of vice you're using?
These days I’m using a Renzetti Traveler Saltwater edition (larger jaws) in the “blackout” option. Not cheap, but I love it and will have it forever!
I also wanna tell you that crappie jig you did in the 2 tone I love it. I'm gonna tie sum as soon as I get my new vice. Thank You!

new to this, thanks....
My pleasure!
Where can I buy the bucktail at
I get mine from Barlows!
I can also tell that you don't tie bluegill jigs to often. ; - )
Got me confused again, but thanks! (I think?)
Definitely not clunky… like the varying thickness in the body… lends well to being buggy!
Thx man! Turned out pretty decent!

You think that’s small, tie a size 22 pheasant tail nymph for mountain trout. Royal pain in the butt.
LOL, I can only image!
