I've been line striping for over five years now, there is a big learning curve to it, it's not as easy as it looks. My biggest tip, make sure you strain your paint
@@pcwelds9785 just strain it. With latex I’ve never thinned the paint. What I do when I’m using several 5 of paint is to put a 5 gallon strainer in a 5 gallon bucket. Pull the strainer ban down so it raises the bottom of the strainer 4-5 inches off the bottom of the bucket. Run tape around it to hold it in place. Then cut a 3 inch slit up towards the rim of the bucket to put your suction hose in. Suction hose the sit on bottom of bucket but under strainer. Then as you need paint just pour into your buck and it strains it before it goes into your rig. I always keep a lid on aswell. Help to keep paint from skimming
I'm thinking of getting into it. It can't be harder than P. washing as that takes years of experience to get good at it. Plus there is sooooo much liability in it. I'm thinking there can't be as much liability in painting
I’m a house painter and not sure the type of material your using for the stripes but if your tip in the gun is clogging a lot try getting a five gallon paint strainer and run the paint thru this first. It will pull any garbage that’s in the paint out and your tip won’t clog as much. Hope that helps out.
Hey Justin. This is Todd Hillberry with Hydro-Line Exterior Services in Madisonville. I took Billy Davidson's Line Striping Course and learned a lot. If you haven't taken it, I highly recommend it. I ran into the same problem with having a wheelchair stencil that was too big for the existing one. Mine is from Asphalt Kingdom. Paint a blue box the same size as the outside dimensions of the stencil. Let it dry then paint the wheelchair using white or yellow, depending on the other lines in the parking lot. Much quicker than outlining the existing one with tape.
Im having flashbacks of excepting jobs I wasn't 100% confident with. Making a small mistake and just start sweating wondering if you made the right choices in life. Then it all works out ok lol
Im a painter that recently got’ how to wash’ and have done some washing already but really trying to gear up for it in 2024. And seeing this I know the pumps are a bit expensive but I think I can figure this out much like you guys did to maybe add this service down the line too! Thanks for your honest take on your new Service!
Anybody wanting to get into the business, at 5:00 when painting that ADA ramp, LEARN FROM ME AND SPRINKLE SAND IN WHILE SPRAYING. People WILL slip and fall on that ramp when it rains
PAINT! If you guys would like some stencils made, I have a guy here in GA and I’d drive em down to you for free. We have a striping business here and love seeing new people get into the industry. Much love, brother. 🤙🔥❤️

I attempted ti start this prior to starting pressure washing. The sherwin Williams rep told me the biggest issue was paint supply. So where do you get paint esp when a supplier tells you it’s hard to get
Just started learning about striping a few months ago but my greatest challenge right now is contacting or finding clients. I've been emailing real estate agents who have commercial property for either sale or lease but I can't get a response let alone a yes. If I can please get tips on how to contact the right people so I can score my first job that'll be great! Happy striping everyone
You need to get hooked up with a asphalt company that paves or seal-coats. You’ll have a very hard time going door to door to find clients. A lot of customers want more than striping. Been doing this for a lot of years.
So… did you tell the customer it’s your first job for covering your possible mistakes? Or price it like normal, and make it seem like you’ve done it before? Just curious for newer add ons to business, what’s the best approach to make to Tell the customer?
Can someonw help me with my probleme!!!! Just did a concrete driveway with a buch of acorn stain ( black spot) that dosent go off with just the pressure washer so I put a 3% sh solution bamm everything was gone Perfect driveway !!! A few days later the guy put a scealer on the concrete and now when the concrete is wet all the black spot that were gone reappear Someone got an explication off what could cause that ??? Did the sealer reacted with the SH or i dont know Imo i killed all the organic on the concrete how could they reapear after applying a scealer...???
Know of any suppliers of disposable stencils? I'm new to the game and I find there are some real benefits of using stencils but the cleanup after every couple of uses on the job makes it almost not worth it. I'm doing a pedestrian crossing at the moment and the time to clean the stencils compared to the actual spray time is killing me. I want some cardboard or similar stencils that you used once or twice then throw away.
Where I work these guys paint the freeway we grind, imma find out what they use. These are the big dogs, if they use it, we'll definitely be good using it too.
If you ain't making mistakes, you're lying lol. Call out the liars, why pretend to be perfect? Half the fun is digging yourself out of the shit you jumped into! It's the most satisfying thing ever getting better and better at making money, working for yourself.
I don't know if anyone else has addressed this, but you're using the wrong machine for pavement work. That is designed for field striping, and a different type of paint. Step up to the very minimum of a Graco 3400 or Titan 3500 at the very least
It's so funny watching people stripe, I'd recommend working with some professionals before you start, you'd be surprised how much you can learn with years of exp.
Wait so the paint has to be thinned down to go through the titan machine? Billy never mentioned that in any of his UA-cam videos and I watch every single thing he posts 👀
Striping is easy money! In my area we usually charge 40-50 cents per linear foot for white or yellow paint and 30-40 dollars per handicap logo! Keep in mind every time you change colors you have to clean out the machine so you're going to want to charge a little more if it's a multi colored area. A bare minimum off 300 for each job! My machine I use about 2500 psi for pressure and the lines come out clean. Also I use a water based paint. It's a little thinner so it doesn't clog the tip too much but it does happen WHICH IS WHY IT'S IMPORTANT TO CLEAN YOUR MACHINE THOUROGHLY AFTER EVERY USE. Take it from me the amount of errors we have made 😂best of luck to you boys!
@@thomascarter2488 Yeah that sounds not too far off from us. I'm in Texas so depending on the territory prices can vary. At an 18ft line at 50 cents its about 9 dollars and at 40 cents its about 7.20 so that's pretty comparable
$500 for a parking lot...lmao.... $500 minus cost of materials+fuel...you're working for sub minimum wage. $500 for a mobilization fee maybe...then another $1000+ to do the job.

On your handicap, could you have put down a painted box to cover up old stencil then put your stencil over the box. Blue box with white stencil ?
I’m super intrigued by this by dumpster cleaning. I’m driving down the road looking at everyone’s parking lot lol.
And use some boards for your edges on things..can use them over and over.
When painting a let down, try to add a non-slip grip! Least thats what we do lol
How did you color swap at the job site?
Everyone makes mistakes...you learn from them and it makes you better at your craft

Good work bro!
Can you give me help with the paint like what kind to use or best brand ?
Ennis Flint oil-based paint
I do this at work in the side in the construction field it’s fun I like I want to try in start doing this on the side
what tape do you use?
Is this in all year around business? Or more of a summer thing?
Yo how do you set up payment/contracts
Who do you talk to for commercial jobs
A real good one. How much should I invest in Facebook ads a month .

I would have widened the tape to cover over spray.
That is a baby striper, get a full size one and use oil-based paints unless they make you use water-based ones. Oil dries much faster.
Would it be possible for you guys to let us know what brand of latex paint you are using for all colors?
Have you ever thought of stencils large stencils
Do you like that 850 Titan machine??
Rotate the Paint Nozzle Guard.
Do you still like the Titan 850 ? I see a lot of guys don’t like it

You just need various stencils most people make them out of ply wood .

How much did you charge for that job
I’ve been doing striping for awhile it looks good

some paints are different and can be too thick and need thinned out. So many different manufacturers with different formulas.

When you paint over existing lines do you also use water based paint? I read that it doesn’t sit well if the existing paint is oil based
it hurts to watch you paint over oil stains knowing especially when you have the tools and crew to wash it first
I could of done this job in like 30 mins by myself
