It is not Poland vs. rest of V4, but rather Poland and Czechia vs. Slovakia and Hungary. PM Fiala was even more "aggresive" towards Fico than Tusk during the meeting.
Very true. But Czechia doesn't have the economy and military Poland has. I commend Czechia and its people for their bravery and support to Ukraine in the face of a tyrannical threat. But the fact is, we need buy-in from the bigger powers: France, Italy, Germany, and increasingly Poland.

The V4 really seems to be falling apart. During the last meeting in Prague, only Tusk visited actual Czech president Pavel, while Orban and Fico went to former president Zeman. Also just yesterday, prime minister Fiala said that Czechia needs to change it's relations with Slovakia because of Fico's government.
Not Polands and Czechias fault that Slovakia and Hungary want to be Russian puppets so bad
as a Pole I don't agree .These countries used to have similar problems and development under the soviet union rule and later on ..I 'm afraid that Tusk is losing contact with public .He is sometimes too far-fetched thinking and may ignore or miss domestic interest .The previous government has tried to form three seas initiatives against Germany Adriatic ,Baltic and Black sea
@@piotrwojdelko1150 sorry but that's not true - PIS did few empty PR meetings in first years and that's it. V4 ended with fulfilling its goal of entering EU and NATO. Since then nothing happend with the group. PIS kind of tried to bank on stronger ties with UK& US
@@piotrwojdelko1150 I honestly don't think forming an initiave "against" Germany is a good idea in the first place. If anything Germany is our neighbour that we should work together with. Besides if there are any gouverments in the EU that go against the common interest of Europe and their own people it's Fico's and Orbán's. Although to be clear I am Czech, not Polish.

In Czechia, we are ditching the V4, too. It has become impossible to maintain exceptional relations with the current Slovak government.

As a Hungarian, I wish the absolute best for our Polish brothers. Unlike us, they at least seemed to understand how to get a better future for themselves, and actually managed to fix their problems after communism and the turbulent times that followed the dissolution of the USSR.
I’m glad that you guys are becoming an important European power, it’s just…. a bit sad that despite our history, our current developments seem to separate us more and more. We virtually have no allies anymore, and are basically regressing, while you are progressing (along with some other nearby countries). Still, wish you the best of luck.
The times are hard and people are afraid, so they choose politicians that seem strong and conservative. One day Orban will be out and you'll be free to join the wider European community. We won't stop being friends over one guy 🇵🇱🤝🇭🇺
This far-right conservative wave is sweeping across Europe now because of economic problems thanks to the war, immigration issues and the housing crisis that was even there before the war. The problem is, people don’t realise that many of these problems were caused by these exact same populist politicians, and the only solution they seem to offer are either being pro-Russia while not contributing anything to stop the war, or deporting all kinds of random immigrants, once again not getting to the actual center of issues (that being actually unchecked immigration and a low fertility rate).
I wish people realised that this isn’t the answer, and much of the youth throughout Europe seems to realise that, wanting to see changes in the government by reforms instead of electing strongmen conservatives. Unfortunately, this issue is still growing.

I don't understand why this video is suggesting that Poland is ditching V4 including Czechia. Tusk himself declared that he had surprisingly many common interests with the Czech government, he even did not expect to go negotiations with Czechia so smoothly, that Tusk and Fiala even extended their own meeting many hours after it was supposed to end.
Czechia currently also punches diplomatically above its weight, as it also got much closer to France recently and leads the mission to get 800.000 artillery grenades to Ukraine.
This is a left leaning channel.
If you look closer how they exclude Czechia from map when talk about issues Poland have with V4 then you might see this is not what they intended to suggest, maybe not accented strongly enough.
To make you feel better, I will tell you that the number of errors, distortions and understatements in this and other materials is astonishing for a channel that pretends to be informative 😉

A well-balanced EU is the only way to a true integration and democracy of the Union. Poland does a great job contributing to this, like it did 35 years ago starting the anti-communist revolution.

@@placek7125As a German I can assure you that no one here wants a 4th Reich - that's just a fabrication of non-German populists. What we want is a strong EU that is good for all its citizens - and on top of that an absolute necessety to counterbalance Russian military aggression, Chinese power plays and US economic oppression.
In terms of security - should Trump win the presidential elections then EU internal security policy becomes even more important. Just remember that Trump said he would encourage Russia to attack NATO members in Europe and that the USA would not come to the defence of the countries under attack. Do you want Poland to fall under Russian rule again? I highly doubt that.

@@TheModeler99 France and Germany are most powerfull, Poland is the border with "east", that's always been the curse of Poland and it's blessing. Spain is a well developed country, but it doesn't have so significant role, in the security of Europe, perhaps it had in medieval times, but at the moment (it might change of course) it doesn't anymore.
I'm hungarian, and i understand. Poland was our best friend in the Union, and we betrayed them by supporting Russia.
It's also important for Poland to represent Eastern interests within the Union in a productive and positive way, instead of the temper tantrums and backstabbing that my country prefers.

I feel like it’s too late for us, unfortunately. Half of the country is really Eurosceptic usually thanks to government propaganda, and most people who are more pro-Europe tend to leave this country for the West. This ensures that this government will stay in power (as well as their well established non-democratic tactics), but even if the opposition wins by some miracle, we will basically have the same set of corrupt politicians, just with new faces. We don’t really have anyone we can count on at the moment.

@wildwurfler2782 Gdansk the officially recognized international name. Pronounciation has less to do with it and more so cultural disrespect. Munich is called that because that's the international name Germany approves of. Mainz is no longer called Mayence. What about Torun? Too hard to pronounce too?

A lot of Polish people have come to work here in the Netherlands and they're really easy to get along with. I'm glad Poland is taking a more active position in the EU. It really shows that all that investment into pulling Poland out of its Post-Soviet depression was worth it. Reminds me of the gratefulness of Western Europe to the US for the Marshall Plan. A society being pulled out of the sh** brings them closer to those who pull them out. They want to do more for the EU as a whole. Of course they want more influence too, but I think good will is a big part of it too.
Strong ties, strong cooperation are pretty nice.

Tusk is also strenghtening relationships with our northern friends: finland, sweden and norway. Morover he maintains good relationships with Latvia and Lithuania. When it comes to visegrad he said after the meeting that the group still makes sense and we have to find what we have in common when it comes to interests in europe and stick to that. To summarize: cery good diplomatic actions from Tusk for now 👌

The German Weimar republic created high inflation by racking up debts to fund WW1 and also re-build after WW1 and Allied demands for restitution on top was another 1/4 of the total debt so just made things worse. However inflation was already solved by mid 1920s which is very long before Hitler rise to power. It was Nazi propaganda that inflated the concern over the economy and made Hitler appear as if he was going to save the German economy but the inflation problems ended long before he took power. The funny thing is that we can see this effect today, right now, we had inflation spike in 2021-2022 and now in 2024 inflation is basically at normal levels in most of the world but people will be complaining of inflation and high costs for many years to come. This is one of the tools Nazi used to take power the low-education people who don't understand that inflation raises prices but also income, it's a balance. And even after inflation is over they still complain for years to come which is ripe for taking advantage of unfortunately. Trump is a good example of someone taking advantage of this effect today.

Poland is not only tightens relations with France and Germany. We are also changing the orientation towards north Europe. Tusk met with prime ministers from nordic and baltic states in recent weeks. However V4 will still be usefull for us as we have some common interests despite different political view on some problems. Poland is back in Europe's mainstream but with stronger then ever position. This will be good not only for Poland but I strongly believe for Europe too.

As a Swede I was about to say something similar, I'll just point out that it's not a change in orientation but a strengthening of an already strong bond. We share the belief that the only path to a just and peaceful world is through the close cooperation between strong independent nations, so while we are strong supporters of EU we'll never let it become our ruler. Many western leaders like to claim they stand up for freedom and democracy but when Russia gave us an opportunity to prove it the result was "not terrible, not great".
Sweden's strategic interest has for centuries been the area around the Baltic Sea and Poland is our strategically crucial partner in trade, defense and not least politics. A strong Poland is important for us and we share many political objective, like helping more Eastern European nations escape the prison of imperialistic tyranny so they too can become our strong independent democratic partners. We have been working together to get Ukraine into EU for several decades but was met with resistance from Putin-understanders. When Georgia was invaded in 2008 Poland and Sweden launched the EU Eastern Partnership as a stepping stone for Ukraine, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia.
"It's time to look to the east to see what we can do to strengthen democracy," Swedish foreign minister Carl Bildt said on Monday (26 May), after presenting the project to the rest of the EU club with his Polish counterpart, Radoslaw Sikorski
I think it's time for Poland and Sweden to take the lead in defending freedom and democracy, even when it's dangerous and hard, no matter what insane threats Russia makes there's nothing that scares me more than the consequence of allowing tyranny to win.

As a Pole I always felt ashamed about previous goverement’s anti-German and especially anti-French retoric. It just felt so… aimless. We destroyed the vibes with our allies over some bullshit and gained nothing. What’s the point?
For anyone reading this. Above ^ you have a perfect example of someone with inferiority complex. A economically and militarily strong Poland has never been in the interest of Germany. That's why they've done a lot to stop the construction of the Świno-ujście port, by e.g. claiming the waters they've exchanged to us in a treaty (which were meant to be deepened to allow for bigger ships) are now birds reservoirs and artillery training sites or on the other hand saying how harmful the project apparently is to local wild life. They also work hard to stop any initiative of making our rivers navigable (especially the Odra, which is the border defining our common border). They are also trying to stop us from building nuclear reactors.
This should make it very clear that Germany is not interested in an equal partnership (which was also observable in the 1930s and -40s), but rather one of overlord and vassal.

Gospodarczo silna Polska po prostu nie jest korzystna Niemiecom. Nie z jakiś tam ideologicznych powodów, lecz z perspektywy czystej ekonomii.
Podobnie jak konkurencje ze strony Ukrainy była by dla nas nie korzystna.
Tak więc nie możemy opierać się na Niemcach (które już znajdują się w stagnacji gospodarczej) w celach wzrostu gospodarczego.

As a German I fully support and encourage the idea of a bigger polish influence in the EU and a closer partnership with Poland. Poland as an equal pro EU partner could be key for European autonomy and defense.

They were always good between us. Only small disputes in history, but lived pretty peacefully next to each other for hundreds of years, that’s a pretty good feat in Europe.
I think france-germany-poland-czechia makes so much sense nowadays since all countries have pretty outstanding relations with each other and pretty intertwined economies.

Considering the current governments of Slovakia and Hungary, its not surprising the Weimar Triangle is coming back to the fold and will become a lot more influential in the EU. Also like to point out, with Fisco's government being the way it is in Slovakia, Czechia is also seemingly leaving the group as well.
As a czech Im glad for our Polish friends who ditched their authoritarian government and moved to the West unlike our slovak brothers. Right now we are closer to Poland then Slovakia and its sad but it was the choice of the slovak people.

Poland and Romania must build motorways, high-speed railways and other infrastructure that will bring them closer together and will boost their economies. This is the only way to integrate closer.
It is surprising how much question there is over who the 3rd most important EU state is. Logically it should be Italy, but they don’t seem to grab that role much, so Poland (and sometimes Spain?) seems able to claim it.
It would easily be the UK if they didnt Brexit. Italy and Spain are good candidates, but the current geopolitical challenges have given Poland more spotlight. Plus they really declined since the financial criss while Poland is economically and militarily on the rise.

Spain and Italy were hit hard by 2008 crisis and have massive amount of debt so seem to be happy to focus on their internal affairs. Poland cannot afford it. Also you should note that Poland is not alone - it has varying level of support from Nordic, Baltic countries, Czechia and Romania on the key topic of security.
I hope Poland does push the EU to take their own military security more seriously. Poland has felt the boot of Russia and can lead in the defensive resurgence in Europe.

Indeed. And they could have had that for years. We here in Germany would have certainly welcomed that given that Poland has become our 5th biggest trade partner. Problem was the PIS that crippled Poland political potential. They went with aggressive anti German and EU rhetoric all the time so that there was no working with them. Tusk is a way more intelligent politician. He realized now that the UK is out of the EU there is an open place on the big table and decided to work with France and Germany and secured a lot more political influence for Poland as both Germany and France are happy to share if they have someone reasonable at the table who they can work with. Easy as that. The EU is all about compromise. Shit like Orban pulls will just isolate you in the EU.

Wyszechrad group is 4 countries! if one saw the recent summit in Prague it is clear that there is a division amount the polish+Czechia vs Slovakia+Hungary narratives however saying that polish relations with it's Czech neighbour may deteriorate bc of this situation is a stretch at the very least. Tusk and Fiala even had a separate press conference. Im Polish and I did Erasmus in Prague... There is no reseon to feed into a narrative corroding Czech perspective on polish ppl and the relations between them
As a Czech, I very much agree with this. With the situation in SK and H our relations will probably even deepen which i am glad since I like our polish neighbours (never forgetting czieszyn region tho!!! 😂😂😂). My country is just probably too small for him to go deeper into our relationship with Poland.

As an American you obviously have no clue. You know how America instituted puppet governments in certain countries in order to gain more control over them? Tusk is exactly such a puppet, only that he's working for Germany.
Poland is a country that in regards to size, population, military and economic potential deserves to play an important role in Europe, and not sit at the children's table of Visegrád, which the past government has set up to protect themselves from EU investigation. Visegrád is dying anyways, Czechia is now also stopping negotiations with Hungary and Slovakia. It will only be those two pariah countries left, and depending on how the elections go, they will reorient themselves towards Austria, Slovenia and Romania. Poland is better of without them.

I am a Hungarian living in Slovakia, which is my country of birth. I am very sad to see shady leaders in my country, but I am glad that our neighbors keep looking up and forward. Russia is heavily invested in our domestic politics, pulling strings in the back. Real education, financial and political, just did not reach the majority of these countries. Populists keep the voters dumb so they have an easy way to victory in election cycles. Unfortunately they do not understand the simple fact, that if you make the population small in order to manipulate them, one day they will realize that it is not possible to do great things with small people :( Hungary is already in a deep financial and mental black hole. Slovakia is on a different track, but the signs are there that we will be dumbed down more and more in the coming decades. Only way to avoid this is to pump more money into education than Russians pump into social media influence in order to create division among people.
as for Visegrad than its future is in the large infrastructure projects that can be done together, agroculture and education (acording to the Czech presidential office)
As V4 seam more like regional cooperation to join EU and NATO it feels like it starts to fade away or have internal crisis due to being stuck in zone 2 vs 2 where countries starts to feel their own way. From other side we can say that this group grow into 3 seas initiative where V4 is in centre of everything. This is however this is straight closer economic cooperation within EU. And countries outside of EU could only observe and not be active member.
Weimar on the other side was close cooperation in security, but it had a problem of feeling like it was 2+1 where decisions were made even before meetings. If this has to return then better it be this time more balanced or it can lead to even bigger problems across EU.
I'm happy that Poland turns West and it wants to become a main actor at the European stage.

That’s definitely the better choice for Poland: I’m not saying that the V4 is bad, however, considering the behaviour of the Slovakian and (especially) Hungarian governments, that’s definitely the best choice by far.
Poland as the 5th most populated country in the EU has a lot of influence, which it can use to achieve greater goals by coorporating with bigger countries instead of visegrad
Weimar is a good platform for conversation but not a real block.

As a Czech person, Poland leaving Visegrad behind would be an amazing first step to finally dissolving it. It was always a stupid way for our mediocre cohort of politicians to conspire and hold back all 4 of our countries. Visegrad being weaker makes PiS and Orban weaker, as well as our previous President Zeman, so we'd be removing so much dead weight that stood in the way of European reform.
What European reform? Federalisation (or rather centralisation)? Relocation of migrants? Green deal?
These reforms are obviously dangerous and not beneficial to us.

As a Polish I agree. V4 is bad idea. We should westernised instead of forming club of post soviet countries. Whidout Poland V4 will fall apart. At least this depend on us. Hungary and Slovakia can run it alone and they prefer to stick with Putin.
We have our own place on the map of Europe and our own interests. I would appreciate the existence of a Northern-Southern block of countries realising we have little common interest with the two countries that are close in the alphabet to each other which have recently been known mostly for their silly ideas dragging the whole continent down. No to the federalisation of Europe, no to bearing the consequences of straight silly or lobbied ideas mostly originating in Germany. It's too broad a topic for a YT comment so I will simply go to the Europarliamentary elections this year and give my vote to the first sane Eurosceptic I select from the list.

However, if some members of the Visegrád Four dismiss the idea of Ukraine free from Russia's oppression, there is no way to move forward. Solidarity among Slavic nations, especially in supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty is far more important than the cohesion of the V4 group. This fundamental truth must guide our path forward, prioritizing our shared values and commitment to freedom above all.
Ukraine is not our brotherly nation and we shouldn’t sacrifice our existing relationships for that country. Ukraine struggles to accept the responsibility for Wołyń, and has consistently shown unappreciative behaviour towards Poland and what we’ve done for her.

Honestly with Tusk at the Helm of Poland I'm much more comfortable with their position (and possibly rising position) in the EU. The almost-nazis that were in charge before have done significant damage to Poland and its reputation abroad, so I'm hopeful he and his party can turn things around.

while i support cooperation with France, i also rly hope we continue to pursue V4 cooperation.
Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, and Hungary can really achieve a lot together. its just a shame that Orban's goverment is dragging the whole V4 down :(

I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for, but in the next few decades I think there may be an opportunity to create a EU military. Personally, I don't think that makes sense without the UK.

@@backpackingbold Totally agree. I know I sounded very dismissive right there, I think it's the friendliness towards Russia during a time of war what I find outrageous. And honestly, the Czech Republic, despite also being part of that group, I find more pro-EU than the other two countries.

To me, it seems like even tho Weimar triangle is a good idea (if done correctly) for european integration, Poland should not ditch Visegrad. To me, Fico and Orban will not rule forever, and eventually, a pro-european backlash should happen sooner or later. Poland then should play a leading role in those countries' re-integration, potentially even leading a bloc even bigger than V4, not in oposition to EU but for it.

Well i would not say that the V4 is falling apart entirely, there are just to sides Czechia and Poland x Hungary and Slovakia. You should mention that the Czech-polish relations are now better than ever, because Poland is finally ideologically closer to czech republic. Dont put the rest of the V4 together if it it not true for all of the countries. Czechia is also ditching Slovakia because of the same issues as Poland even though we still share on the human level a lot of compassion and friendlines, on the political level it is just not compatible. Also please for a future, look up how to pronounce Czechia :D Thank you for the content

Visegrad Group died anyway, mostly due to the current governments in Slovakia and Hungary. When Poland had a similar one something was still on, but since they ditched this it is not going forward. Instead the cooperation between PL and CZ is going strong.

My god, I am so proud to see real serious politics being done by my country, instead of the isolationist, insecure dance it was doing under the previous government. Finally something is getting done.
I believe that Poland will deepen its cooperation with the Baltic and Nordic states (especially the new NATO members) and will try to build a common front there. A lot of Poland's critical infrastructure and investments are allocated in the north, along the Baltic now, so it's a natural course of action.
Lets hope the rest of V4 changes their stance so we can be united once more

V4 has been falling apart ever since Ukraine war, maybe even earlier. It's divided into 2 groups Poland + Czechia and Hungary + Slovakia. I do belive that the only serious matter on which all 4 can agree on is not accepting any illegal Muslim or African immigrants.
