"You know I really think you might."
Just magical.
A real "holy shit" moment.
He has such a powerful voice
the only thing wrong with this scene is that the curator should've offered the eleventh doctor a jelly baby
absolutely correct
Disagree. Would have ruined what is a very dignified scene
Or just handed him one with no explanation, on the sly.
Yes, he should just hand him a bag and in the Tardis the Doctor could open it and they they are.
Metal Hero Studios i think it should have happened when they were like "Congratulations, thank you very much" then The Curator takes out a bag and says "would you care for a Jelly Baby?" and they enjoy them together
This is literally my favorite scene in the entire Doctor Who 50th. Tom Baker still is an amazing actor.
I agree, everything before made the episode a 9/10, but when he appeared the scene made the episode a 10/10. from what he said to how he said it.
Not just an actor, he's still The Doctor :)
Jawiin strangely the first time I ever heard of Tom Baker was in Star Wars Rebels as the Bendu, and he was magnetic, I loved both his voice and performance.
It gives me shivers, how Tom Baker can convey so much emotion with just his eyes. "Who knows"
I love that it wasn't a question. Beautiful
that is the beauty of old actors. they truly know how to act using very little movement!
And “Who nose”
The Curator: Gallifrey Falls, No More
Chris Chibnall: No, Gallifrey Falls More
Russell T Davies better retcon most of Chibnalls era
I have absolutely no idea how much of those wonderful emotions on his face is acting and how much is genuine. And I love it.
You say acting. I disagree. At this moment he IS the 4th Doctor again.
@@suziechapstick8236 Nope Matt is still The doctor in this scene. Tom is just making a great cameo.
@@Riskofrain527 Well I did only say that Tom felt like the 4th Doctor again. I didn't mean to take anything away from Matt, of course he is the 11th Doctor and great in his own way. I meant it more like they are both the Doctor, but as their own distinct versions of him.
To really act, the emotions must be real.
I love the ambiguity of this scene, implying that the Curator could either be an older 4th Doc displaced on time, or a future incarnation that looks like a past incarnation.
Its brilliant in itsexecution, as it exemplifies the beauty, the awe, the magic and mystery that is Doctor Who
There are many things that dont completely make sense in Dr. Who, but so what?
Its all part of the wonder and splendor of this show.
*****
Although you'll not remember my comment, it has previously been established in DW (both the classic and new series) that the future is not "time-locked", nor does truly run linearly. Take the 4th Doctor's adventure in "Pyramids of Mars" where Baker's Doctor depicts a ruined Earth in the 1970s because he didn't stop a villain in the past.
To the 11th Doctor, he may just view the Curator as a possible, but *not* certain future. In other words, he still needs to fight to get to THAT future.
*****
Not exactly. The Curator could be an alternative version, or a future version of the Doctor. The keywords are "could" and "or" in that even the Doctor does not really know what is actually within his future.
For example, he knew that he could have either died on Trenzalore, or that he could have somehow survive the events of Trenzalore. Nothing is set in stone until it happens, and even then...
And lets remember that Moffat has a habit of introducing recurring characters by first killing off said character:
~ River Song
~ Strax
~ Clara
***** Well here's my theory: The Curator is in fact the 4th Doctor. Remember that mini episode where the tenth meets the 5th doctor? The latters old appearance is explained as a result of the paradox. What if the same happened wit hthe 4th doctor here, who wants to give his future incarnation a hint on what to do before he returns to his time stream and - like all previous incarnations - forgets about the events?
***** The thing about The Curator is its all vague. Who knows?
People always complain about how "confusing" this scene is. Am I the only one who thinks it is pretty obvious and easy to follow? The curator says "you might find yourself revisiting a few old faces, but just the old favourites". To me that, along with his knowledge about Gallifrey still being there and the fact that the Doctor seems to forget he met him in Time Of The Doctor proves that he is a future incarnation of the Doctor, who has taken the form of his "old favourite" the fourth Doctor and retired to become the curator of the gallery.
they created the scene so that, accourding to the Rules of time they gave us in the last 50 years, the Doctor do remember the Curator and their meeting, since no BLEffect happened when the 2 touched, and theold one did not actually said anything, just that 11th had a long way before him (and then sadness because he would soon regenerate in the exsistentially challenged 12th)
It makes perfect sense if the curator was the doctor at the end of his life. After all he has to one day find that painting to bring it all full circle. What's great about Doctor Who's storytelling engine is that we can be shown the ending and it wouldn't be a spoiler, because in the series since the beginning it was never about the destination, but rather the journey. We see here that the Doctor will one day retire to Earth (which has become more of a home to him than Gallifrey) and become the curator. But despite knowing this, we watch to see what will lead to the ending because it is there we the audience find more worthwhile. My only concern is if Baker is no longer with us when and if the series does come to an end, I really hope Moffet shot additional footage of him as the curator just in case.
Robert Lythgoe I can't help but notice that several walls in the museum have the old round thingies pattern as well.
Makes you wonder if in fact, the museum is actually the TARDIS.
I'm not saying you guys theory is wrong but what I think it is, is just unveilings of certain things it was said during THE DAY OF THE DOCTOR special that all 12 (13) of them came together and at once to turned Gallifrey to another universe so maybe Tom Baker stayed back to give some important information to the next special you know how it can be sometimes Wibbly wobbly timey wimey so with my point out there I only have one question
Would you care for a Jellybaby?
Robert Lythgoe And people complaining about why he doesn't remember him doesn't make sense. It's an established fact in the Doctor Who lore that when multiple versions of the same time traveled at different points in their life meet, only the eldest version can remember the meeting once it is over, because the time streams are out of sync.
I love the way Matt looks right down the barrel of the camera at the end of this clip, looking pretty pleased with himself; as if to say 'guess who I just met.....".
Yeah, I love that. Almost saying "Look who I just met!"
+chewie211171 Tom Baker wrote on his official site that he was greeted by "a really excited Matt Smith", so I definitly believe that reaction could exactly be the one he had on set.
I recognised tom's voice straight away. Even after all these the legendary Mr Baker still has it. This scene touched and ripped through my heart. My mum used to watch tom baker as the doctor when she was young. Tom baker is part of me and my mother.
Good to see an old face after a long time.
I could never forget a face.
The voice had me questioning if I was hearing it right, but when his face showed up, I didn't know how to react. He was my dad's first doctor, which me watching it when he did has me say the same, and for both of us to see this together made it all the more significant and memorable :)
We both recognized Mr. Baker voice and I was truly happy to see him return. The best Doctor ever. Beside him being the oldest living Doctor. RIP 1,2,&3 Doctor's.
The moment Tom Baker's voice spoke up, I was in tears. I was just filled this sense of euphoria when I realized it was the 4th Doctor. It was my Doctor. The one Doctor I sat down to watch in PBS reruns and never once missed. Just every kind of good feeling.
I literally jumped out of my chair I was so excited.
with all those balls and squares on the wall, my friend has come up with a theory. what if the museum was really the 4th doctor's tardis???
I'm thinking he is a future version of the Doctor. The way he says that the Doctor 'has a lot to do'. It's as if he's already been there and has restored Gallifrey. Also, the name, 'The Curator' is a little bit like when he went by the name 'The Caretaker'.
@Nathan Turner And he uses the name John Smith all over the place. The Doctor LIES.
of course it is!!!
“You know I really think it might!”
yes
this scene would have been *PERFECT* if Tom Baker ended with one more line:
"Would you care, for a jelly baby?"
No, better yet. "would you happen to have any Jelly Babies?"
Thom Clark yeah, just as he was walking off to just call something like that over his shoulder.
Actually They used that (in Baker's voice) in the "Rebel Flesh" episode the other season, remember ?
@@DNulrammah No...
All ya'll kids had your fuss over who was better, 11 or 10.
Hail to the king baby, Tom Baker was and still is the greatest!
By saying hail to the king baby, all I see is Duke Nukem as the Doctor now
All Hail! Tom Baker was my intro to Doctor Who. His zany, crazy ways laid down the rules for future Doctors. He uttered my fave line: "What's the point in being a grown up if you can't be childish sometimes?" or something like that. You know they HAD to put him in there to close off Matt Smith's story!
HughDaana er point of order the duke stole that line like all his lines, ash would in fact be the king and dont you forget it, that said the duke makes it sound better :)
These kids don't understand, Tom Baker has been, and always shall be, the best Doctor!! 4th Dr 4evar!
I do love the later ones....9, 10, 11, 12, and on. But everyone has that first love that they never quite get over. The one that first took and broke their heart. And being Valentines day I gotta say... the 4th and Sara Jane will be forever in my heart.
Oh Sarah, don't you forget about me... ua-cam.com/video/GHPFfTw0wmE/v-deo.html
"Gallifrey falls no more." Only Tom Baker can make this sound so epic. Even he would say: "Tea" or "Cookies", it would sound epic.
+timrob12 Would you like a Jellybaby ?
petaunot :)
If he did he would say “Tea” or “Biscuits”!
Wow. I never even watched the Fourth Doctor saga, and I'm completely won over by Tom Baker's appearance in these two and a half minutes. His voice, his quirks, all of it. Such a charismatic actor.
The greatest.
JimmySteller my dear fellow you have missed out on so much and have some serious catching up to do. Get to it
You're missing out badly. Watch the Fourth Doctor.
Tom Baker is gold. You have to watch the 1970's Doctor Who serials
Anyone else feel a cold chill going up their spine when you heard the words "You know I really think you might"?
Who else was in tears when they heard Tom Baker. Best part of the episode. Glad to see he still has that quirkiness too him as well.
The theatre must have gone crazy!
redoctoberfruit my parents thought I was dying, or something, when I first saw this.
You could've heard a pin drop after "You know, I really think you might?" :-D
I watched this in the cinema in Cardiff, full of massive fans of the show, and everyone was so happy when Tom's voice rang out. There is nothing else to describe that kind of shared experience. A true masterpiece.
80 years old and still with the twinkle in his eye
Once a Doctor, always a Doctor.
"Is that what I'm suppose to do now; go looking for Gallifrey?"
At 1:50, Smith's eyes make him look more youthful and spirited than he has ever looked. Hand gestures and energy aside, Smith's Doctor always came across to me as an old man who's tired and looking for purpose. But that one look showed me a fire had reignited in the Doctor. Such a great moment.
It is a wonderful moment, and it makes me all the sadder that Matt Smith is leaving us at Christmas. I'm looking forward to seeing Peter Capaldi, but I would have been very happy with a year or two more of Matt. A great Doctor :)
tinysteelorchestra Right there with you. Regeneration is a part of the lore of the show. Its the reason they've been able to keep it going so long. Bring in some new blood every so often. But Matt's a young guy. They easily could have gotten another year or two out of him. Oh well. He will be missed. Let's see what Peter Capaldi can do with the role.
BunBun299 I'm sure if it was up to Moffat, Smith would have stayed. But Matt was ready to move on, he wants to try his hand at Hollywood now. I wish him the best, but like you guys I wish he could have stayed around a bit longer.
DalekTheSupreme Peter Capaldi is the 13th incarnation of the Doctor, but will be known as the 12th Doctor because John Hurt(War Doctor) was skipped in the numbering. Anyway, Smith was my first Doctor and I 'm really going to miss him.
Marcus Bierman John Hurt is 8.5 i think because it was forced regen
Best scene in that entire episode right here. I LOVED seeing Tom Baker again :D
+Matt Alley 100%
+Matt Alley Me too - my favourite Dr of them all
I must say when I first heard Tom Baker's voice coming from off camera I instantly recognised it and it sent a chill down my spine. Of course opinions vary but for me Tom Baker IS Doctor Who. Both Tennant's and Pertwee's doctors come a close second.
Yeah me too! Sat bolt upright in the chair and say "wwwwwwhhhhatttt?" Being in high school and college in the 70s Tom Baker was MY Doctor, but I'd say Matt Smith has given him a run for his money in my
I heard that voice and I thought "NO WAYYYYY!!!!" Yet there he appeared.
same for me.
that moment... just wow
You know people criticize that scene, calling it just fan service. Well, to that I say THANK YOU! It was worth it.
rodeocyclone Agreed. I'll take all the fan service they want to throw at me. Tom Baker, that voice, the profile, even the old Tardis like wall on the wall (if anyone noticed), I loved it all.
If you watch this scene carefully, you can tell in Tom's eyes that he's still yearning for adventure and excitment as the Doctor. When he says "If I were you", you can tell he's recalling his days as the Doctor and what marvelous battles he had with Daleks and Cybermen. And then he congratulates Matt on being the new Doctor. There was a time when Tom was young and eager for adventure (maybe still so), but he has now passed on the torch to a new generation of Whovians.
This goes beyond goosebumps and into giddy grinning.
Grinning while crying over here. It's so beautiful. The wall design even looks like Tom Baker's TARDIS.
Even at 80 years old, Tom Baker's got such a presence. My mother actually squealed when he showed up, as he's her Doctor. :)
00:16: The point when the collective jaws of the Whovian population hit the floor and fell halfway to China.
Must have been loud in the theatre!
I know mine did!
This was such a beautiful moment. It must have been amazing for Matt to be able to act with Tom Baker.
Passing the torch. Now it's official.
"you know I really think you might"
There are no words to describe how hard I nerdgasmed at that voice.
Tom Baker walks on and is so amazing he almost steals more than just this scene. He leaves questions , the how the why etc just as he always did. Thank you Tom, The voice of the 70s that never really faded away, and never will in my heart..
I pissed myself when I heard that voice. I couldn't stop smiling. He was one of my favorites along with Pertwee and Tennant :D
I don't understand how anyone is getting confused here. It seems VERY clear that Tom Baker is playing a distant future Doctor who decided to revisit his older regenerations and particularly went back as a curator using the 4th Doctor face. This is how he clearly knows Gallifrey exists because he's already saved it. Where is the confusion and having to decipher and speculate coming from? It's pretty blatant.
The Greatest that ever was and forever will be Tom Baker.
The look on his face when he hears "I really think you might..."
😲
Always brings a tear to my face when you hear tom bakers voice in the background
This scene brilliantly encapsulates what Moffat was trying to achieve with this special. An old Doctor comes back, playing a (possible) future Doctor, and redefines the aims and goals of the current Doctor, all in one scene. Paying homage to the past, celebrating the present and pointing the way to the future of the show. Brilliant.
I will never forget where I was when I first saw this scene; sat in a 3D cinema screening, surrounded by fellow fans. Most certainly one of the most memorable moments of my life
If there had to be one great classic doctor to return in the flesh... Just be glad it was Tom!
I already knew cause i looked up LOADS of spoiler(which i regret)
John Hutch Did you see it at the cinema in Wood Green? That's where I went to see it.
After watching this scene, bro, I can sit back and say "I've met those two Doctors, great people to talk to. I would love to meet Tom again :)"
THAT is why Tom was so damned successful and had so much staying power.
Seeing my mum’s reaction to this scene made me not even have to think about how important this guy was and still is.
When Peter Capaldi's Doctor was shown in this episode my jaw dropped. When I heard Tom "The Original Eccentric" Baker's voice, it dislocated.
Tom Baker, the sheer power of this small moment is incredible. The majesty of an older and wiser doctor guiding a younger incarnation to his path.
The beauty of this scene (aside from the obvious) is when you realize that in Elizabeth I's message she appointed the Doctor as the curator...
I never watched Tom Baker, but I understood and was fully impacted by this scene's significance. I started crying as I watched him come on screen. The people I was watching with (I was in one of the common rooms in our college dormitory) looked at me weird, but I didn't really care.
I DID watch Tom Baker; he was "my" doctor. And you can bet I was bawling my eyes out.
Tom's still got a booming voice
When he said "I really think you might" from offscreen I first let out a yelp, since I didn't want to spoil anything for myself and had no idea Tom Baker was returning, and my second thought was how his voice sounded as hale as the young fellow with the giant scarf handing out jelly babies.
He voices the Bendu in Star Wars: Rebels. James Earl Jones' voice has grown a bit weaker with age which is most notable in Rogue One but Tom Baker's voice is still as powerful as ever.
You know, I always figured that when the legendary Tom Baker - the Fourth and greatest Doctor of all time - finally returned to the new series to pass the torch to a new actor, that actor would be David Tennant. Matt Smith should consider himself lucky. No matter how many other actors follow him in the role of the Doctor, this moment with Tom Baker in the 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who will always belong to him.
Dave Jr That's basically what I said. Tom Baker's Curator is actually the Doctor at some point in the future when he's retired, but he's regenerated back into his Fourth incarnation, so he's essentially both a future Doctor and the Fourth Doctor at the same time.
Tom!!! My first Doctor!! Mine! The first one I saw when I was 9. He is still alive and kicking. But he's the oldest one now. So nice to see him here. It wouldn't be a 50th without one or two of the classic Doctors there. Pretty awesome stuff here. :)
David Tennant and Peter Capaldi were huge fans of the show before they became the Doctor. How jealous they must be that Tom Baker decides to return to Who on Matt Smith's watch.
redshirt72 cough tennant married to peter davison's daughter cough :)
I know right? David married Peter Davidson's daughter, who together have a daughter named Olive. The Doctor marries the Doctor's daughter, who has a daughter with her. Wrap your head around that. :)
DarkComet360
The Doctor marries the Doctor's Daughter, has a Daughter with the Doctor's Daughter, who in turn is not only the Doctor's Daughter but also the Doctor's Granddaughter.
Shiirow Yep, that sums that up. LOL.
I get goosebumps every time I see this scene. I remember when I first saw it I practically screamed "It's Baker!" across the living room.
I remember being very tired, as I was sitting behind my PC for three hours by then and sort of waking up the next morning and thinking: "Did I really see Tom Baker and Peter Capaldi and all the previous Doctors in the 50th?"
This is how you celebrate a 50th anniversary!
I've always loved this scene!!! If you watch this scene carefully, you can tell in Tom's eyes that he's still yearning for adventure and excitement as the Doctor. When he says "If I were you", you can tell he's recalling his days as the Doctor and what marvelous battles he had with Daleks and Cybermen. And then he congratulates Matt on being the new Doctor. There was a time when Tom was young and eager for adventure (maybe still so), but he has now passed on the torch to a new generation of Dr. Who fans!!!
+Peter McDonough Tom is still awesome and will always be THE ICONIC PORTRAYAL of the Doctor. he is a true gentleman and class act as well as witnessed in this very special scene. God Bless.
Happy 80th birthday to Tom today, bought some jelly babies to celebrate!!!
Happy 80th birthday from me as well to the best classic Doctor.
Raximus3000 happy birthday Tom "The Doctor" Baker
I still think Tom Baker's performance here is the greatest performance in Doctor Who. He delivers so much emotion concentrated in two minutes. He hadn't just not lost his touch; he performed better than he ever has before.
Yup!
This scene was perfect. To see Tom Baker again, 'my' Doctor, brought a tear to my eye. Thank you Auntie Beeb for delivering tenfold on this 50th Anniversary Special.
Tom clearly says " you may find yourself visiting some of the old favourites". So the doctor works out how to regenerate into previous incarnations. He must do this in the future and grow old as the curator.
Thats one way to put it
not previous incarnations as such , previous faces.
"I can only tell you what I would do... stay for an extra four years."
Tom Baker! He was a fascinating actor when he was young, and now there is dignity, pathos, a hint of sadness and even more mystery added to the mix. And it's so good to hear that wonderful RP of his... the Elder Statesmen of the Whos. I don't care about why he's in this scene and matters of continuity, etc. etc. etc. - I am simply thankful that he is.
It really was an emotional blast from the past for all the fans, if there was one good reason to watch that episode, this scene had to have been it. I've rewatched this scene over and over, it brings back great memories, but it was really sad too.
I was very happy to see him, & happy that he's remembered by so many fans. I don't care WHY he's in that scene.
After 70 - something years, his voice hasn't changed a bit. He could read from a phonebook & make it sound like a dramatic recitation.
This will go down as one of the greatest TV moments ever.
Yup. Brought tears to my eyes. This is my Doctor.
Tom Baker showing up really made my day. He has always been my favorite Doctor. Even with a limited budget he was incredible. Just imagine his Doctor with today's special effects.
Great comment and so true. Tom's awesome portrayal kept your focus on the characters and story. The limited budget or special effects were not the focus. That may be part of the reason so many of his episodes are considered among the best in Who history. Plus he knows how to appreciate the fans and he was a sexy Doctor to boot!
i love this moment so much for the pure fact that even with all the twists and turns moffat throws into doctor who not in a million years could we predict something this amazing
I really wish Matt would have stayed on for just for one more year, but I still wish him luck on his future endeavours!
get over it, times change and now so must he
IrishDan89
Wow there was really no need for you sassy comment.
ah you obviously didnt get it, went over your head
TheWindsofWonder he was quoting what Matt Smith said when he began regenerating
One of the greatest scenes in all of Doctor Who
Quite a touching moment, brings a tear my eye, a 45 year old man who watched Tom Baker as a child in the 1970's, to see him pop up like that was wonderful.
When I heard the amazing Tom Baker's voice, I gave the biggest fangirl scream! Tom Baker was the first Doctor I ever saw (granted I was watching the episodes on VHS in the '90s), and my dad's personal favorite (mine being Sylvester McCoy, with Tom as a very close second). I loved watching his adventures (and the rest of the Doctor's adventures) with my dad and my sisters every Saturday night. He was funny, mysterious, wise, and just a tad bit crazy and that's what I love about him!
"Gallifrey falls no more...unless a future showrunner has no original ideas"
Tom Baker is still as awesome as ever here, McGann showed us what we missed by not having an eighth Doctor series in that Fantastic Minisode, All the other classic Doctors were brilliant and engaging in the fiveish Doctor's reboot and David Bradley in an adventure in space and time portrayed the first Doctor perfectly, and David Tennant reprised his role perfectly, and Hurt's War Doctor and Hot Interface Bad Wolf/Rose and Capaldi's cameo - just those eyes - was enough to show me he will be a fantastic Doctor. Moffat should use them all, do an Eighth Doctor spin off or have McGann in Capaldi's first series, perhaps another appearance of Tom Bakers curator or other Doctors or perhaps i'm being too greedy. But all in all I was very happy with the various programs produced for the 50th and I've got to view it as a great success! Can't wait for the 10th Anniversary of NuWho...
Definitely a 50th well celebrated. We Whovians have never had it so good.
The greatest doctor ever, The great Tom Baker. I still watch his episodes, with all the cheap cheesey special effects, and the low budget, yet his acting was strong, no IS STRONG. Still my favorite, forever in my heart with love and respect. We love you Tom Baker.
Tom was and always will be my favorite Doctor. No one before or after matched him or ever will. Thank you Tom Baker!
56 people are NuWhovians who don't know who Tom Baker is...
Agreed he still his the best along with tenant and smith
max turcotte And Eccleston. And Capaldi.
No, there is an irrational amount of old doctor who fans that just hate the new series without even watching it.
I like Old Who and New Who. They're both awesome.
Cryer24597 I got no idea myself. I like all of them with the exception of number six, although that's just because he was written as an a-hole.
This was, is & forever will be one of my absolute favorite moments in TV history. My Doctor Tom Baker appearing with the 11th. My childhood self would have loved this.
I feel so heart warmed because he acts exactly the same as he did all those years ago :,)
I seriously can't watch this scene without crying
I love Tom Baker so much
Beautiful scene, and a beautiful ending to an amazing special
The only thing that was missing was him wearing a scarf.
He passed it on to the assistant that works for unit
Tom Baker was my first Doctor and when I heard his voice I jumped up from the couch yelling screaming like a mad man!
Good, I'm not alone.
Amy Summers
I was in a theater with a few hundred people so I had to maintain my composure--not an easy task.
I gasped and applauded when I heard his voice when I was watching Day of The Doctor at home. It was a dream come true for me. Tom Baker and Matt Smith my two faves in one scene. It was a touching moment. :)
Tom was my first doctor, even at my young age, and he never ceased to make me smile. I was going through a very rough patch before the release of the 50th special, and seeing him in this scene made me feel like a little girl again.
Tom was my growing up Dr too so I know what you're saying, that said I adore Matt Smiths Dr also!
Anyone else notice the Tardis Roundals on the wall opposite the Tardis...
What are the round things?
I have no idea
Throwback to classic who, most versions of the Tardis in the old days have roundals like those on the walls.
Thanks Nobodyjbh14 but I said "no idea" because I was referring Smith and Tennant when Eleven said "What are the round things?" and Tenn says "No idea"
ahh lol ok sorry xD
*"The script never directly states that this character is an incarnation of the Doctor, but it implies that he may be a future version of the Doctor who has reassumed the form of his fourth incarnation, or is in fact, said previous incarnation. Further fuelling confusion is the fact that Tom Baker is not separately credited for this performance, receiving only a credit for playing "The Doctor" while another evidence of this being the Eleventh Doctor giving a wink to the curator possibly to suggest he knows this man is actually the Fourth Doctor."*
tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Curator_(The_Day_of_the_Doctor)
It was a cool cameo regardless and I think it's nice we don't know, it allows fans to make up whatever they want and it will be valid as much as anyone else's head cannon.
Tom Baker was my first Doctor. He'll always be THE Doctor for me.
And the wall was a great touch.
Wonderful seeing Tom Baker again, I grew up watching him during Doctor Who back in the 1970's on PBS...
But dammit BBC, couldn't you at least get the audio in sync for this UA-cam video?
It could be UA-cam or the Internet, not the BBC alone.
Tom B. is one of the greats.
Tom Baker was one of the best...and always will be.
So the museum is the tardis retired
It probably is the TARDIS retired.
The tardis herself said she "stole him". What if all his adventures... all of them took place within her infinite halls and rooms?
yes!
When I first saw The Day of the Doctor and I heard that voice say, "You know I really think you might," I knew who it was instantly and my heart skipped a beat.
The Day of The Doctor was brilliant! And I know when I talk to friends when I see them they're going too ask "What was your favorite part?" and I'm not going too choose, as every part of it was perfect! the genius in the episode was extraordinary! and too say the least the greatest thing I have ever seen! And now that The Doctor is returning too Gallifrey is amazing! Steven Moffat you are a GENIUS!
I was at a movie theater to watch this with my 15 year old cousin who loves Doctor Who aswell (Both old and new but his favorite is Tom Baker) And i clearly remember the look on his face when Tom Bakers voice could be heard... It was such a good time :)
I just love this scene so much. My favourite part.
Seeing Tom Baker again in a Dr Who episode. Simply awesome.
Just love the little subtle hints. Revisiting the old favourites - and a Matt Smith wink!
You've always been 'my Doctor' Mr. Baker. Thanks for reminding me why (as if any reminder was needed). Happy 80th!
I remember seeing this in the theater and there was this one collective gasp from everyone there when we heard his voice, and as soon as he appeared, everyone started shrieking. It was one of the greatest nerd moments of my life. So much happiness, and so glad I got to meet him ^_^ Tom Baker is a legend for the ages
I was at home and I'm not ashamed to admit that I started crying (happy tears).
I cried happy tears as well when I watched this episode with tom baker in, he is my all all time favorite doctor incarnation of all time.
Matt Smith, David Tennant, John Hurt, Tom Baker all in the same room! MINDBLOWN!
I cry. EVERY. DAMN. TIME. Tom, you legend, stop making me feel things!! :'( Anyway, happy 80th, Mr. Baker. You will always be 'my' Doctor.
Oh, Moffat you clever man. Now that Tom Baker’s actor has been established as a future incarnation of the Doctor, Doctor Who can literally never end now, because there will never be another actor capable of replacing Tom Baker.
I'm not sure. I thought he was either the 4th doctor, aged (like Peter Davison in the mini- he had) or a person or time lord that only he and Clara could see. (like how the War Doctor was the only one who could see the Moment's conscience). I would love it is this were true, though!
Well, 50 years from now, when there is the 100th anniversary, I'm pretty sure the BBC will have the technology to make a CGI Tom Baker.
MsDeidra99 "I could retire, and be the curator" "You know I really think you might." "You may revisit some faces. But just the old faces, eh?" Those lines pretty much say, yeah, in the future, doctor is gonna look like he did as the 4th again.
Your forgetting the Doctor is a time traveler; what makes you think its a future Doctor Tom was playing, and not a older 4th Doctor?
Chrisanthea Green Mostly his line about revisiting old faces and the fact that he's congratulating Eleven and giving him tips, as if he knows exactly what happened to him
Watching this after Heaven Sent really gives context to Tom Baker's Doctor.
"You have much to do"
I still get chills when I hear “I know, I really think you might”
First time I saw this scene, it was so wonderful seeing Tom Baker as a possible future Doctor that I actually started to cry, even now I still tear up watching it
Tom Baker... the longest running Doctor so far. David Tennant came close though
Tennant was doctor for 3 years maybe 4....Baker was 9.
Try again, 7. And I never said Baker didn't beat Tennant, I just pointed out that Pertwee, Hartnell and Troughten did as well.
bigfatcarp93 Depends if you are counting by episodes or duration. If that is the case then the 8th (McCoy) is the longest since the lag between his last episode and the movie.which is 9 years. By Episode TB wins at 179. If you count radio, actually McGann might pull ahead by count but I have little info on the radio series.
Also true, people forget McGann due to his lack of film appearances, but he had many audio stories (BTW, I'm assuming you meant McGann and not McCoy XD)
I shouldn't think so, because other Doctors happened in between. If we were to count that as current, we would have to do the same with Tom Baker, making his tenure upwards of thirty-five years in length.
They had to include Tom Baker in the 50 year anniversary celebration. Great!
Chills. Still get chills.
Happy Birthday, Tom Baker!
Thank You Steve Moffat for giving all us Old Dr Who fans...the ones who got up on Saturday mornings, adjusted our UHF antennas to watch Dr Who on the local PBS channel, a wonderful gift. Tom Baker was my first Doctor and, like a first love, you always remember your first...
Hey some of us had to sneak out late at night when our parents were asleep and set the VHS on record for 30 minutes on our PBS channel on weeknights as well and pray we didn't get caught to watch some TOM BAKER Doctor who :)
I had a big Tom Baker grin on my face when I saw this scene
This was my favourite part of the episode :D Just to hear his brilliant voice you don't even have to see him at first and you jump out of your seat and go OMFG IT'S TOM BAKER!!!!!!!
Best scene in all of the history of Doctor Who imo, The way Tom Baker starts the conversation and Matt Smith mixing well with him. "It's all one title Gallifrey falls no more..." will forever be my favourite line.
This almost made me cry. The nod to all the past work that's gotten the show to where it is, and using THAT to move it forward. It's just breath taking, and tear jerking. Also, this leaves the option for the return of the classic doctors! SO AWESOME!
