The 1971 Capri 2 litre ohc was my first new car. I paid just over $2100 cdn for her and it was the best money I ever enjoyed spending. My close friend bought the 1972 2.6 litre v6 and we tweaked the compression and induction so much that on a late night test run, we duly surprised a passing Dodge Superbee pilot as we pushed on to 100 mph.......then shifted into 4th gear! Great job Ford of Europe. I wish I could own one again.
Still own one today....ive had several..over the years...The Capri was Sold in the United States by Lincoln Mercury, So we call them the Mercury Capri and the rest of the world calls it the Ford Capri.. The 2000cc Motor with the 4 speed manual....Was fun to drive...this guy is driving the one in this video like a delivery truck...i would take mine to 6000rpm on a regular basis and could get around my buddies yellow 2800 V6 with relative Ease....I think a Retro style Modern Capri would sell like hot Cake's....Eco-Boost 4 valve would be a perfect Match...We can only Hope...😯
I start my apprenticeship at Ford Cologne just after the start of the production of the Capri in 1969 too and was in employment with Ford for about 49 years. I saw a lot of Ford Models during and after the Capri production. But not me alone, a lot of colleagues which were contemporary witness of the Capri production from 1969 - 1984 get goos bumps and wet eyes see and remember to the Capri. And also not me alone answer "I had one and I love this car". It was for me by the way the first "new buyed car" after my apprenticeship and the first earned money. A Capri '73 1.6 XL.

Plant Y in the north was the final assembly of painted bodies with engines, axles, wheels interior. Plant R was the forge and aluminum die casting, where I was located after my education in total for nearly 30 years in the lab. In 2002 I got a new function in final assembly Y and until my retirement und supplier QM Service. Other plants are for transmission manuacturing. Today all the plants are doing more or less the same, apart from the chrome plating, which was closed with the introduction of plastic bumpers and by enviromental requirements for the whole automotive with their previous assembled steel, chrome plated bumpers. And to answer your question: I am not in the vid.
My Dad had bought a new '66 Mustang (C code coupe)...when the Capri's rolled into the showrooms in the early 70's we test drove one...I didn't yet have a drivers license as I was probably only 14ish but was already a pretty good driver so my Dad let me drive it on our test drive (yes that was back in the day where the dealer just handed you the key)...it drove very good and was pretty darn peppy. We both thought Ford would sell them like hot cakes but it never really did.
@@LukeBeasto OMG NO !!! The Ford Capri was a politically incorrect rebel with a big engine that meant business on the road and the track. If it ever returns, it needs to pick up where it left off.

There would probably be quite a bit of excitement in the enthusiast community if Ford were to license a reproduction bodyshell of the first generation Capri. The Mustang has been seeing renewed interest since the release of New shells.
Such a clever blend of Escort and Cortina (Taunus) parts, you'd never pick it from the styling, especially with that looong low bonnet. Good for carrying the straight 3.0 L 6 cylinder from the Granada. Yowza.

So when is Ford building a new one? A fun, affordable coupe would fit nicely in Ford's model line-up.
hope so!
But it HAS to be true to the original spirit of the Capri :
RWD
2 door coupé
No electric or hybrid bullshit
hopefully the do it not look what they have done to the Puma an ugly SUV
So basically a Mustang? I personally don't see where between that and a Focus a Capri could fit

Dear Ford, please build a new Capri.
A hybrid sports car would be ideal to have the Capri name!
It'll be a long wheel base Puma... you know the little coupe the bought back as an SUV crossover :/

Wot up with Ford if they made same as cpri same but with new technology but same body still they would make millions would take place king of all cars I all ways been Ford + will be ford...😊
How about an all-new Capri RS?
Thing of beauty.
Just bought my first Capri, I’ve always wanted one mk3 with a 2.1 pinto that I’m going to fast road cam and zx9r carbs, I’m
Mid way through the resto, the welder has not had a break haha, I’m going to daily the bad boy, it will be finished in a month. 🤙🏻🤙🏻 awesome vid
Capri rules :-)!
outstanding Car ....I wish to own one!
Lovely video - thanks. I had a 1982 2.8 injection for 10 years - always regret selling it! I know it still exists though which is cool.
I know we have the Mustang now in Europe, but it would be great to see the pre-come together again as a budget coupe
Awesome vid! What a classic. Capri RS and Escort Mk1 RS - Ford at its very best.
As cool as it was when it was launched
Hatte selber 2 Ford Cabri, sollte Ford wieder bauen
1974.. my dad had a red and a yellow one.... the first car i ever was a passenger in 😍
Proper video👌
Just listen to that beautiful engine...Hmmmmmmm Sounds so nice..
Having owned a 2.8 injection, and a bored out 3.1, memories. I do miss to cars, but more so the 2.8 injection..
Well missed.. 🥰🥰😢😭😭
Couldn't agree more, great cars that really allow you to drive with all your senses. I love mine on road and track and seeing this makes me want to make it look as good.
Beautiful car, love the colour scheme.
Best Carporn!!!
Thank you Ford for this amazing, sexy car video.
The editing of this makes it seem like the engine noise has been dubbed on. I hope that is the actual 2600 sound. It sounds amazing....alive!
Mein Vater kaufte einen in 11 / 69 als 1700 GT XL !
Der Wagen war damals eine Sensation und wir liebten ihn !
Nach 3 Jahren war er durchgerostet........
Pure joy the sound from that v6 stunning lines my dream car that my own father had easily more than 10 he even had the car I dream of every day of my life a red with black vinyl roof 1973 3.0ltr gxl with rostyle wheels and an amazing Essex v6 growling soundtrack damn I miss that car
Still a beautiful design after all these years
There would probably be quite a bit of excitement in the enthusiast community if Ford were to license a reproduction bodyshell of the first generation Capri.
Yowza.
A 3,0 straigh 6 Pinto engine was planned. But the 1973 fuel crisis killed it off before it came. Granada 3,0 was always the Essex V6.
Przykra historia i zmarnowanie legendy Forda Capri. R.I.P.
I had a 1976 Capri II S 2.8 in California. She was white with black/gold interior and gold wheels.
I remember the Capri well, especially the Mark I and Mark II. Both were sold by Lincoln-Mercury dealerships in the U.S.; all U.S.-market Capris were built in Germany.
Have had 4 of them myself, and loved them all..
Would be nice with a MK4 ;-)
