Actually the cross was not the end of the redemption plan, it was the beginning. Redemption is from the cross to the throne. Ephesians 2:11-16 and Colossians 2:13-14 show us that the law was fulfilled on the cross. It is his resurrection that brought us justification. Without resurrection we are still in our sins 1 Corinthians 15:17. Therefore, the cross, the death, the resurrection and ascension complete the work of redemption and not just one part. if it is just the cross where the blood was shed, even the criminals on his sides shed blood to. We should understand the work of Christ as in the old testament sacrifices and the work of the high priest, Jesus was both the sacrifice and the high priest. His work according to Hebrews was accomplished when he seat as a high priest who entered the Holy of holies to sprinkle his blood on the mercy seat and this did not happen on the cross but in the heavenly tabernacle.
