Ironically, the game that isn’t trying to be realistic at all made me feel the most like i was playing a movie
it was seriously like playing a sunday morning cartoon and i loved it
It made me so happy when so many games are leaning into realistic graphics and art to the detriment of performance.
but the animation and polishing is excellent, better than a hyper-realistic game
The music choices to go with those graphics is also just amazing and deserves so much praise as well. Korsica's boss song is my absolute favorite out of all of them.
It is like playing an anime. A great one with better gameplay than most gameplay out there.

Knowing how to play piano and playing every Devil May cry game really helped me. Currently in Rhythm master and I'm probably gonna 100% this game, which I haven't done since Black Ops 2.
Korsica and Rouqefort were my favorite boss fights, and they both have the best music imo.
I also apologize for flexing my piano skills, I don't really get the opportunity to very often.

Loved the two bosses too, Korsica kicked my ass, I think I lost 3 or 4 times to her, parry is very difficult to me even though I was playing Sekiro (Another Rythm game with parrys) before coming to Hi Fi Rush, she is such a cool character
Korsica is the only reason this game is beyond a mere 10/10 to becoming a 100/10 for me.

I'm just eating up all the good vibes whenever people talk about this game. It's just so...pure, and good. It feels nostalgic, but not pandering. It can be cool without taking itself too seriously. It knows how to have fun while keeping itself strictly on the tasteful side of cringy. It's perfection.

I really like these music fused combat games coming out. Sunsent Overdrive with its soundtrack that gets louder the more "style" you have, Hellsinger that powers up your attacks by shooting to the beat of metal music, Brutal Legend where you can melt enemies faces with guitar shredding. I really like this genre.

Jet Set Radio was another fun game similar to this style.
Also shout out to No Straight Roads for being similar in idea, except the main characters don't exactly attack or move on beat

I was on the fence about it bc i never played a beat em up before. I bought it after seeing the first Zanzo cutscene, then had my heart stolen by Korsica. 10/10 game
zanzo is another favorite of mine. i’m a big fan of his voice actor
The game just feels like a cartoon from Jetix/Disney XD in a videogame form, in the best way possible. It's kinda nostalgic to see all the tropes from the cartoons of my childhood come together in a game. And yeah, the gameplay is also so good.

4:56 I love that your goal here was literally just not dying. I breath a sign of relief when I get the enemy in that phase because its a guaranteed kill for me (at least for most enemies)
I suggest going to the training room, setting one of these guys up with ai on and just endlessly practice these. It helps a fuck ton.

Awesome review, and I really enjoyed your comedic style and pacing here! Nice work. I'm having a very hard time remembering the last time I straight-up loved a game as much as this one; like you said, it reminded me just how *fun* games can be, and I'd forgotten how that felt. Sure, certain open-world games have given me a sense of awe and wonder (see: Elden Ring), but nothing has gotten its hooks into me just by being so goddamn *fun to play* like Hi-Fi Rush. The icing on the cake is that since everything is on-beat it's incredibly accessible, so once you get the timing down for things like stringing a Parry Counter slam into a magnet grab into an aerial combo, you feel like a total badass while the actual mechanical requirements are much more forgiving than, say, something like DMC5 since the windows for inputting commands are sometimes two or three beats long (or at least it feels that way). One last thing I'll say is that I'm gobsmacked by how good the original music is, compared to the licensed tracks. I legitimately have trouble for some levels deciding if I'd rather listen to the licensed music or the original songs for a given boss fight/stage. Apologies for the mini-essay, I just love the hell out of this game. Cheers!
don’t apologize for the essay, i love insightful comments like this! yeah i agree, too many games focus on the pretty graphics and cutscenes, but forget that its a GAME, and not a movie. this game is just such a pure joy to play, and is solid from start to finish. i like open world games and all, but i’d always rather play and tight and condensed, polished game than a massive, empty, buggy one.

the art an animation is outstanding! the quality is there throughout the entire game. there is plenty i haven’t shown in this video :^)
Out of every game released this year this one still remains the best for me by far, i thought hogwarts legacy looked okay, atomic heart looks repetitive, pizza tower is solid but feels less out there compared to this game. Just a great game in general, and im glad its linear, im so tired of the open world formula sometimes.
It’s honestly not even that linear, sure the path to progress is very often just one pathway however there’s several times you can take a side route to discover hidden stuff. I’m 2 playthroughs done and still haven’t gotten everything yet because I keep missing pathways.
“Open worlds” are honestly something I hate having in so many damn games, like they make so many games a damn chore to get through because I don’t have the attention span to follow a set quest line without getting sidetracked, and then getting confused when encountering a previous quest line again.
i honestly miss more hand crafted, more linear experiences compared to “generic AAA empty open world #246”
i’d rather have a tight, compact, fantastic experience than a mediocre dragged out one

@@d4s0n282 I'm around half the story and it's really creative and fun, but also really stupid, duke nukem level. it has good cutscenes and also the worst cutscened ever directed, it's unreal.
I'm playing max difficulty from the start and the tutorial really messed me up, but once you gear up it's awesome and the bossfights are great, it's a fast fps game with tons of different things to do and a lot of puzzles.
I can recommend it, but I can say it's a long game if you want to do everything and find all the lore

I haven't even experienced the game myself and just by watching others play it I can comfortably say that it was almost an actual masterpiece of a game. I feel like the lack of a more sophisticated story as well as the short gameplay time kind of held it back a little bit, but that's not something that can't be fixed with a few dlcs or something I suppose.
I also love how literally everybody simps for Korsica, though I myself am probably literally the only Chai simp in existence 😆.

The main reason for my buying of the game was 808, if the cat wasn't in there I probably would have never touched it since I'm not a huge rhythm game fan. But once I started playing, I was hooked, and the originality of the bosses is amazing to me, Rekka is probably my favorite boss character-wise other than Korsica. And then there's the costumes once you've beat the game, and as a cat-lover you can probably guess which of Peppermint's outfits is my favorite.

This game reminded me of no straight roads but this game blew my expectations away tenfold. It was so fun and so good it is easily the best game I've played in a long, long time. I desperately want more of this it's almost silly lol I am obsessed.
I didn't miss a single bot conversation either haha. They all have unique dialogue if you hit them too, so much attention to detail in this game. Not to mention they break the fourth wall when your playing the game for the second time.

The game is good but is sad how chai dont hook up whit Korsika at the end afther all they have beam true, insted the writers for some reason try to hook her up whit other female companion Peppermint, that fell really rush like the end of Korra.

this game reminded me of why i love gaming. the sheer passion and love expressed in this game just blew me away. also, super weak point cuz i play guitar irl so i really empathized with Chai and his rockstar fantasies lol.
What would make this game go from an 11 to a twelve would be the option for a boss rush with every boss keeping it's respective song because there's been so many times I've wanted to fight a boss again out of nowhere, and while the levels are fun, I'm the type to just fly through them if I'm looking for something specific. (If boss rush already exists please let me know)

4:20 I was so close to turning off the game in that mission where you reset the nodes. One of the QTEs is particularly awful and I must’ve done it about 20 times.

This game was the action game I've been waiting for. Not enough action games have air combos in them anymore so it's nice to see one have them again outside of DMC and Bayonetta. Hopefully, Hi-Fi Rush paves the way for more air combos in action games. Also Korsica.

The Kale fight was just amazing. The fact the perfect drug plays during it is the cherry on top.
Zanzo is such a damn vibe, frfr. I also like the realistic character growth from all of the main characters, chai and peppermint, specifically, with korsica as an honorable mention. Chai is constantly put in his place when he gets too cocky and arrogant, like the world is telling him to chillax a bit, you know? It's what makes these characters so endearing, especially chai. New victim for my husbando pile, he's placed next to Zoro from one piece.

i played this on very hard, and going back on rhythm master trying to S teir the fights was so much fun, defiantly one of the best rhythm games of all time
I just finished the game with UEVR mod and It was awesomeeee !!! It plays like a native VR port and it's also very well optimized. I could play in resolution 5250p on Pimax Crystal which is more than 8K and I had constant 90fps

The game reminded me of Sly Cooper the most mainly because the style, and I used to play Sly Cooper. i hadnt played video games in actual years until we got an xbox w game pass on it recently. tried getting back into it and hi fi rush was the third game (i think) i ever played on it. genuinely the most fun ive had in ages i cannot stop singiing its praises and the soundtrack is to die for. definatley one of my favourites of all time easy 10/10

No Straight Roads might also be interesting to check out. Came out a few years ago and it's a respectable debut title by its dev studio, amidst its flaws and shortcomings.
A clear lot of love and effort by both devs and fans has gone into it, and is an absolute celebration of music.
I wish to play it but the max I was able to pay is $20 game after saving for 6 months, hope one day I'd be able to play it.
